Revisiting the flexibility and regularity properties of the asymptotically ideal production model

In this paper we estimate the flexibility properties and regular regions for the first three orders of the seminonparametric Asymptotically Ideal Model (AIM) under four different types of constant returns to scale production technologies. The AIM model's parameters are estimatedfrom a Monte Carlo simulation where the data is generated from a three input, one output, globally regular Constant Differences of Elasticity of Substitution function. The Monte Carlo's input quantity and elasticity of substitution estimates at the unit vector are graphed along with the area of the relative price space where the AIM model is monotonically increasing andquasi-concave.     

Lagrance-multiplier tersts for weak exogeneity: a synthesis

This paper unifies two seemingly separate approaches to test weak exogeneity in dynamic regression models with Lagrange-mulptiplier statistics. The first class of tests focuses on the orthogonality between innovations and conditioning variables, and thus is related to the Durbin-Wu-Hausman specification test. The second approach has been developed more recently in the context of context of cointegration and error correction models, ad concentrates on the question whether the conditioning variables display error correction behaviour. It is shown that the vital difference between the two approaches stems from the choice of the parmeters of interest. A new test is derived, which encompasses both its predecessors. The test is applied to an error correction model of the demand for money in Switzerland.

MAXIMUM LIKELIHOOD ESTIMATION OF GROSS FLOWS

A method of maximum likelihood estimation of gross flows from overlapping stratified sample data is developed. The approach taken is model-based and the EM algorithm is used to solve the estimation problem. Inference is thus based on information from the total sample at each time period. This can be contrasted with the conventional approach to gross flows estimation which only uses information from the overlapping sub-sample. An application to estimation of flows of Australian cropping and livestock industries farms into and out of an “at risk” situation over the period 1979–84 is presented, as well as a discussion of extensions to more complex sampling situations.

Some new classes of multivariate survival distribution functions

The concept of the univariate mean remaining life (m.r.l.) function is generalized to the multivariate case. The multivariate mean remaining life (m.m.r.l.) function is utilized to introduce four new classes of multivariate survival distribution functions (s.d.f.'s). Each of these classes is a new generalization of the univariate decreasing mean remaining life (DMRL) class of s.d.f.'s. The duals of these classes are introduced. Some properties, physical interpretation, and relationships among these classes are investigated. Also for each case, the class of s.d.f.'s common in a class and its dual is characterized.
