How did we get here? The career paths of higher education fundraisers

University‐based fundraisers have career paths that are unique in that most do not come to their careers through traditional training programs that are available to other professions, which may impact their expectations of and experiences in their work. Using the conceptual framework of person‐in‐environment fit, this study uses qualitative data from semistructured interviews of 44 higher education fundraisers to understand factors influencing their career trajectories. While formal educational backgrounds do not necessarily provide specific skills necessary for a fundraising career, findings show that many rely on on‐the‐job training, which was at times inadequate. Findings also counter common reports of fundraisers as “falling into the profession” when choosing to join the fundraising field and demonstrate how organizational factors can influence recruitment and retention.

Learning the two parameters of the Poisson–Dirichlet distribution with a forensic application

In forensic science, the rare type match problem arises when the matching characteristic from the suspect and the crime scene is not in the reference database; hence, it is difficult to evaluate the likelihood ratio that compares the defense and prosecution hypotheses. A recent solution consists of modeling the ordered population probabilities according to the two-parameter Poisson–Dirichlet distribution, which is a well-known Bayesian nonparametric prior, and plugging the maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters into the likelihood ratio. We demonstrate that this approximation produces a systematic bias that fully Bayesian inference avoids. Motivated by this forensic application, we consider the need to learn the posterior distribution of the parameters that governs the two-parameter Poisson–Dirichlet using two sampling methods: Markov Chain Monte Carlo and approximate Bayesian computation. These methods are evaluated in terms of accuracy and efficiency. Finally, we compare the likelihood ratio that is obtained by our proposal with the existing solution using a database of Y-chromosome haplotypes.

椭圆锥带线和微带线的特性阻抗(英文)

首次提出了两种新型传输线—椭圆锥带线和椭圆锥微带线,并导出其特性阻抗表达式。文中假设此带线和微带线的工作模式分别是TEM模和准TEM模,在三维球锥坐标系统里分离变量,再通过坐标变换变成二维直角平面,借助于现有平面传输线的结果而获得椭圆锥带线和微带线的特性阻抗表达式。     

有耗半空间中线天线的阻抗和辐射场

本文给出存在任意两种均匀各向同性媒质分界面时,计算线天线的输入阻抗和辐射场的数学模型。针对地质工程的实际情况,计算了地下天线输入阻抗和辐射场随深度的变化。水下天线辐射场的测量结果验证了数学模型的正确性。     

非对称共面线的特性阻抗

分析了两种不同模型的自由空间中非对称面西线,其共形变换技术得到了线电容的严格解;讨论了双曲正切变换有限厚度介质基片上的非对称共面线,得到了单层有限厚介质基片情况下非对称共西线的有效介电常数、单位长度电容和特性阻抗的闭合表达式。     

基于供需匹配视角的外汇衍生品市场分析——以大连市为例

从供需匹配的角度对大连市外汇衍生品市场的运行现状进行分析,指出大连衍生品市场在交易品种、交易主体、交易币种和交易期限方面存在供需不匹配现象,认为实需原则、人民币汇率单边上涨、银行等金融机构服务能力欠缺是导致这一现象的原因。在此基础上,提出促进外汇衍生品市场发展的建议。     

智能车牌识别技术分析

针对车辆识别过程中的车牌定位、字符识别等阶段干扰因素较多,而国内开发的自动识别系统识别率和误判率没有达到标准要求,提出采用人工神经网络对车牌定位、字符识别等关键阶段进行处理的方法。并对当前车牌识别技术的现状、技术种类及水平进行全面剖析,总结相关识别技术的核心算法。利用神经网络较好的容错能力、自适应及抗干扰能力,可以有效解决车牌信息采集干扰较大、信息不全等问题,表现出良好的应用前景。
