A robust test for asymptotic independence of bivariate extremes

We show that the existing tests for asymptotic independence are sensitive to outliers. A robust test is proposed. The new test is made stable under contamination through a shrinkage scheme. Simulations show that the new test performs well in the presence of contaminated data while maintaining good properties when there is no contamination. An application to real data shows the added value of our new robust approach.

Bayes Estimation Based on Joint Progressive Type II Censored Data Under LINEX Loss Function

In the lifetime experiments, the joint censoring scheme is useful for planning comparative purposes of two identical products manufactured coming from different lines. In this article, we will confine ourselves to the data obtained by conducting a joint progressive Type II censoring scheme on the basis of the two combined samples selected from the two lines. Moreover, it is supposed that the distributions of lifetimes of the two products satisfy in a proportional hazard model. A general form for the distributions is considered, and we tackle the problem of obtaining Bayes estimates under the squared error and linear-exponential (LINEX) loss functions. As a special case, the Weibull distribution is discussed in more detail. Finally, the estimated risks of the various estimators obtained are compared using the Monte Carlo method.

Kageyama Mohan (1984) have presented three methods of constructing new incomplete block designs from balanced incomplete block designs, They raise questions about the designs which come from each of their methods, These questions are answered, Another series of group divisible designs is derived as a special case of their second method.     

A new special class of peb designs

A new class of partially efficiency-balanced designs is introduced from a practical point of view. This new design includes all equireplicated incomplete block designs available in literature as special cases. The fundamental properties of the design are clarified with relation to other block designs.

This method was first proposed by Raghavarao and Federer (1979 Raghavarao , D. , Federer , W. T. ( 1979 ). Block total response as an alternative to the randomized response method in surveys . J. Roy. Statist. Soc. 41 ( 1 ): 40 – 45 . [CSA] [CROSSREF]  [Google Scholar]) to provide accurate estimates of the base rates of sensitive characteristics using balanced incomplete block designs. The scoring scheme used in Raghavarao and Federer (1979 Raghavarao , D. , Federer , W. T. ( 1979 ). Block total response as an alternative to the randomized response method in surveys . J. Roy. Statist. Soc. 41 ( 1 ): 40 – 45 . [CSA] [CROSSREF]  [Google Scholar]) did not guarantee anonymity of answers and so the possibility of improving on this basic scoring scheme is considered in this article.     

A Bayesian approach to non-parametric monotone function estimation

Summary.  The paper proposes two Bayesian approaches to non-parametric monotone function estimation. The first approach uses a hierarchical Bayes framework and a characterization of smooth monotone functions given by Ramsay that allows unconstrained estimation. The second approach uses a Bayesian regression spline model of Smith and Kohn with a mixture distribution of constrained normal distributions as the prior for the regression coefficients to ensure the monotonicity of the resulting function estimate. The small sample properties of the two function estimators across a range of functions are provided via simulation and compared with existing methods. Asymptotic results are also given that show that Bayesian methods provide consistent function estimators for a large class of smooth functions. An example is provided involving economic demand functions that illustrates the application of the constrained regression spline estimator in the context of a multiple-regression model where two functions are constrained to be monotone.
