Disentangling Value Similarities and Transmissions in Established Marriages: A Cross‐Lagged Longitudinal Study

This study examined spousal value similarity and transmission across a 5‐year period on four value orientations: traditional family values, self‐determination, social criticism, and hedonism. Participants were 685 Dutch couples in established marriages. Structural equation modeling results indicated that spouses were moderately similar on all value orientations. Over time, spousal similarity remained for traditional family values, self‐determination, and social criticism and decreased for hedonism. Direct spousal transmission occurred on social criticism and hedonism with wives influencing their husbands. Multiple group analyses revealed that wives’ value transmission to husbands occurred only within couples with similar social positions (in education and religion) and with higher degrees of marital satisfaction. Findings confirm that experiences in one’s family of destination contribute to midlife value development.

马克思的社会技术思想及其当代意义

马克思的社会技术思想是一个亟待开发的“富矿”。在马克思的视野中,所谓社会技术就是人们在生产、交往中所形成的“社会关系”、“社会联系”中蕴涵的规范的、稳定的实践性知识体系。社会技术是自然技术发生作用的前提,社会技术中经济社会技术具有原生性。社会技术是社会管理的技术,社会技术也是社会生产力。研究马克思的社会技术思想,对于发展唯物史观具有重要的理论价值,对发展和完善社会技术哲学具有重要的学术价值,对于构建社会主义和谐社会具有方法论意义。     

Innovation, cultural values, and the management of change in British hospitals

This paper describes the results of a study of innovation in the management teams of 27 UK hospitals. It is argued that the content of innovations provides an accurate representation of the underlying cultural values of the management teams, and the cultural values which they seek to purvey within the wider organizational settings. The authors propose that values in action (as opposed to espoused values) are manifest in the range of innovations introduced by top management within organizations. Using a typology of organizational culture, they categorize the innovations introduced by the management teams, in order to map their underlying cultural values. The results indicate predominant orientations of hospital management teams towards rational goal and hierarchical values in the current context of health care in Britain. Internal climate and service innovations were relatively infrequent, suggesting that the hospitals were dominated by management concern for control rather than flexibility. The costs of such cultural strategies in health service settings are discussed.
