ABSTRACT

The non parametric approach is considered to estimate probability density function (Pdf) which is supported on(0, ∞). This approach is the inverse gamma kernel. We show that it has same properties as gamma, reciprocal inverse Gaussian, and inverse Gaussian kernels such that it is free of the boundary bias, non negative, and it achieves the optimal rate of convergence for the mean integrated squared error. Also some properties of the estimator were established such as bias and variance. Comparison of the bandwidth selection methods for inverse gamma kernel estimation of Pdf is done.  相似文献

This paper considers quantile regression models using an asymmetric Laplace distribution from a Bayesian point of view. We develop a simple and efficient Gibbs sampling algorithm for fitting the quantile regression model based on a location-scale mixture representation of the asymmetric Laplace distribution. It is shown that the resulting Gibbs sampler can be accomplished by sampling from either normal or generalized inverse Gaussian distribution. We also discuss some possible extensions of our approach, including the incorporation of a scale parameter, the use of double exponential prior, and a Bayesian analysis of Tobit quantile regression. The proposed methods are illustrated by both simulated and real data.  相似文献

A general procedure for deriving the exact and asymptotic distributions of a certain class of test statistics in multivariate analysis is proposed. The method is based on an asymptotic expansion of gamma ratios in terms of generalized Bernoulli polynomials. The exact and asymptotic results are obtained and the method is illustrated in the problem of testing linear hypotheses in the multinomial case. In this problem the method yields Box's (1949) expansion as a special case.  相似文献

Group testing, in which individuals are pooled together and tested as a group, can be combined with inverse sampling to estimate the prevalence of a disease. Alternatives to the MLE are desirable because of its severe bias. We propose an estimator based on the bias correction method of Firth (1993), which is almost unbiased across the range of prevalences consistent with the group testing design. For equal group sizes, this estimator is shown to be equivalent to that derived by applying the correction method of Burrows (1987), and better than existing methods. For unequal group sizes, the problem has some intractable elements, but under some circumstances our proposed estimator can be found, and we show it to be almost unbiased. Calculation of the bias requires computer‐intensive approximation because of the infinite number of possible outcomes.  相似文献

In this paper we consider some inverse combinatorial optimization problems, that is, for a given set of feasible solutions of an optimization problem, we wish to know: under what weight vectors (or capacity vectors) will these feasible solutions become optimal solutions? We analysed shortest path problem, minimum cut problem, minimum spanning tree problem and maximum-weight matching problem, and found that in each of these cases, the solution set of the inverse problem is charaterized by solving another combinatorial optimization problem. The main tool in our approach is Fulkerson's theory of blocking and anti-blocking polyhedra with some necessary revisions.  相似文献

There are so many proposals in construction skewed distributions, and it is worth finding an overall class which covers all of these proposals. We introduce a new unified representation of multivariate skewed distributions. We will show that this new unified multivariate form of skewed distributions includes all of the continuous multivariate skewed distributions in the literature. This new unified representation is based on the multivariate probability integral transformation and can be decomposed into one factor that is original multivariate symmetric probability density function (pdf) f on ? k and skewed factor defined by a pdf p on [0, 1] k . This decomposition leads us to prove some useful properties of this new unified form. Stochastic representations and basic properties of this new form are also investigated in this article. Our work is motivated by considering the different skewing mechanisms which lead to different skewed distributions and show that all of these common-used distributions can be viewed as a new unified form.  相似文献

This paper discusses calibration in functional regression models. Classical and inverse type estimators are considered. First order approximation to the bias and to the mean squared error (MSE) of the estimators are considered. Numerical comparisons seem to indicate that the classical estimator obtained via maximum likelihood estimation performs better than the other estimators considered.  相似文献

Families of multivariate geometric distributions with flexible correlations can be constructed by applying inverse sampling to a sequence of multinomial trials, and counting outcomes in possibly overlapping categories. Further multivariate families can be obtained by considering other stopping rules, with the possibility of different stopping roles for different counts, A simple characterisation is given for stopping rules which produce joint distributions with marginals having the same form as that of the number of trials. The inverse sampling approach provides a unified treatment of diverse results presented by earlier authors, including Goldberg (1934), Bates and Meyman (1952), Edwards and Gurland (1961), Hawkes (1972), Paulson and Uppulori (1972) and Griffiths and Milne (1987). It also provides a basis for investigating the range of possible correlations for a given set of marginal parameters. In the case of more than two joint geometric or negative binomial variables, a convenient matrix formulation is provided.  相似文献

This paper studies nonparametric estimation of conditional moment restrictions in which the generalized residual functions can be nonsmooth in the unknown functions of endogenous variables. This is a nonparametric nonlinear instrumental variables (IV) problem. We propose a class of penalized sieve minimum distance (PSMD) estimators, which are minimizers of a penalized empirical minimum distance criterion over a collection of sieve spaces that are dense in the infinite‐dimensional function parameter space. Some of the PSMD procedures use slowly growing finite‐dimensional sieves with flexible penalties or without any penalty; others use large dimensional sieves with lower semicompact and/or convex penalties. We establish their consistency and the convergence rates in Banach space norms (such as a sup‐norm or a root mean squared norm), allowing for possibly noncompact infinite‐dimensional parameter spaces. For both mildly and severely ill‐posed nonlinear inverse problems, our convergence rates in Hilbert space norms (such as a root mean squared norm) achieve the known minimax optimal rate for the nonparametric mean IV regression. We illustrate the theory with a nonparametric additive quantile IV regression. We present a simulation study and an empirical application of estimating nonparametric quantile IV Engel curves.  相似文献
