Understanding Asian American Clients

Abstract

Asian Americans are the fastest growing ethnic minority in the United States today. Therefore, the Asian American population greatly needs the services of qualified cross-cultural counselors. An ethnic match between an Asian American client and his/her counselor is generally recommended. However, due to the limited number of qualified Asian American counselors and problems sometimes encountered with an ethnic match, an ethnic match between the counselor and client is very often not realistic nor always preferred. However, Western counselors who work with Asian Americans need to understand their clients' acculturation problems. They also need to understand the preventable mistakes often made in counseling Asian American clients.     

Proportional cause-specific reversed hazards model

The proportional reversed hazards model explains the multiplicative effect of covariates on the baseline reversed hazard rate function of lifetimes. In the present study, we introduce a proportional cause-specific reversed hazards model. The proposed regression model facilitates the analysis of failure time data with multiple causes of failure under left censoring. We estimate the regression parameters using a partial likelihood approach. We provide Breslow's type estimators for the cumulative cause-specific reversed hazard rate functions. Asymptotic properties of the estimators are discussed. Simulation studies are conducted to assess their performance. We illustrate the applicability of the proposed model using a real data set.     

Gompertz model with time-dependent covariate in the presence of interval-, right- and left-censored data

In this paper, the Gompertz model is extended to incorporate time-dependent covariates in the presence of interval-, right-, left-censored and uncensored data. Then, its performance at different sample sizes, study periods and attendance probabilities are studied. Following that, the model is compared to a fixed covariate model. Finally, two confidence interval estimation methods, Wald and likelihood ratio (LR), are explored and conclusions are drawn based on the results of the coverage probability study. The results indicate that bias, standard error and root mean square error values of the parameter estimates decrease with the increase in study period, attendance probability and sample size. Also, LR was found to work slightly better than the Wald for parameters of the model.

留守经历与新工人的工作流动——农民工生产体制如何使自身面临困境

本文批评了“农民工”和“留守儿童”两种研究问题意识割裂的现状。通过对 “农民工权益保护理论与实践研究”调查数据的分析,本文试图在两种问题之间建立系统性的关联。研究发现,有留守经历的新工人相比其同辈群体更频繁地转换工作。对工种性质进行进一步划分后的统计模型表明,体力工种相对非体力工种、非熟练工种相对熟练/半熟练工种,有留守经历的新工人相比其同辈群体,表现出更高的工作流动性。这说明有留守经历的工人更难适应世界工厂高强度、异化的劳动方式。父母外出打工造成亲子分离,儿童家庭责任感淡薄,但也带来更优越的经济条件和更少的务农经历,由此共同导致了有留守经历的工人频繁的工作流动。留守经历是“拆分型农民工生产体制”的产物,但某种程度上它又加剧了这一体制持续运行所面临的困境。逐步赋予工人公民权,修复家庭生活,是解决系统性危机的基本立足点。     

Estimation Of A Survival Function With Doubly Censored Data And Dirichlet Process Prior Knowledge On The Observable Variable

This article presents a nonparametric Bayesian procedure for estimating a survival curve in a proportional hazard model when some of the data are censored on the left and some are censored on the right. The method works under the assumption that there is a Dirichlet process prior knowledge on the observable variable. Strong consistency of the estimator is proved and an example is given. To finish some simulation is presented to analyze the estimator.     

Additive hazards model with truncated and doubly censored data

In longitudinal studies, the additive hazard model is often used to analyze covariate effects on the duration time, defined as the elapsed time between the first and the second event. In this article, we consider the situation when the first event suffers partly interval censoring and the second event suffers left truncation and right-censoring. We proposed a two-step estimation procedure for estimating the regression coefficients of the additive hazards model. A simulation study is conducted to investigate the performance of the proposed estimator. The proposed method is applied to the Centers for Disease Control acquired immune deficiency syndrome blood transfusion data.

自20世纪90年代起,伴随着延边地区劳务经济的兴起而产生的特殊社会群体——留守儿童的教育与监护问题,越来越成为一个严峻的社会课题。认真分析延边地区留守儿童的现状、问题及其特点,积极探求解决留守儿童问题的对策,是构建和谐社会的重要组成部分,更是教育工作所面临的一个新课题,需要家庭、学校、社会全方位的关注与支持。     

农村留守妇女群体生存状况与可持续发展的研究——基于宁夏南部山区的调查

改革开放以来,随着大量农村劳动力涌向城市,农村留守妇女的问题日渐突出。而留守妇女群体生存状况也成为当前新农村建设中一个容易被遗漏且棘手的社会问题,它制约了农村可持续发展。本次有针对性的深入宁夏偏远南部山区调研;分析这些妻子们"留守"的原因及其她们所面临的生存状态、婚姻关系、健康状况与自我发展的困境等一系列问题,无疑有着非常重要的意义。
