Using Technological Tools to Enhance Learning in Social Work Diversity Courses

SUMMARY

This study explores the educational benefits of using e-mail and electronic discussion groups as instructional tools in social work diversity classes. The authors look at practical ideas of how these technological tools can be used to aid classroom instruction, increase student awareness of human diversity issues, and enhance cultural competence. Students rated their experience as positive overall, and believe it gave them more opportunity to process the course content and expand their discussions outside the classroom. Students also report that they took more time to think about their responses than they do in traditional classroom discussions.     

Latinas and Sexual Assault

SUMMARY

This paper will discuss the problem of sexual assault among Latinas, an under-researched population whose social and cultural characteristics contextualize the trauma of sexual assault in ways that need to be considered by service providers striving to provide culturally syntonic interventions. The authors will present the sparse empirical data on sexual assault among Latinas, Including prevalence, assault characteristics, and post-assault sequelae. Given the bicultural reality of most Latinas in the U.S., a working model of sexual assault in Latinas is presented that frames the problem as occurring within both traditional Latino and modern American gender role systems. The result is a dual dilemma for Latina victims of sexual assault with both negative and positive implications that need to be better understood by victims and service providers.     

Potential Mobilities

Abstract

The objective of this article is to highlight the issue of potential mobilities, by first presenting some possible basic terminology, followed by a critical review of motility as potential mobility, and continuing with an attempt to put forward elements for potential mobilities at times of wide availabilities of mobility technologies. These elements include definitions and meanings for potential mobilities, a discussion of active and passive potential mobilities, and an examination of potential mobilities in light of practiced ones. These discussions permit to suggest a simple model for potential mobilities focusing on the accumulation of mobility needs, access and competences, all of which lead to an appropriation process. This process may bring about various modes of practiced mobilities which on their part may reshape future potential mobilities.     

河北省文化产业立法的思考

文化产业的发展不仅需要政策支持,更需要法律制度的规范和指引.河北省文化产业还存在立法不完备、立法滞后、立法层级低、理念陈旧等不足之处,还未形成健全的体系.地方政府只有制定出完备的符合市场经济和文化产业发展规律的地方性法规,加强文化产业立法的权威性,强调对文化产业的权利保障,才能促进本地区文化产业的发展.     

When Knowledge Is Not Enough: Elements to Strengthen Intercultural Sensitivity Among Professionals of Social Services in Andalusia (Spain)

ABSTRACT.

This study examines social services delivery in Andalusia, Spain, to determine the degree of cultural adaptation of its workers, given the important migratory flows taking place in the region during recent years. This study investigates the main characteristics of those workers with a high level of intercultural sensitivity (IS) and their cultural competences. The survey included 298 professionals with a validated IS scale along with questions related to the degree of intercultural contact and competence. A series of scales for the IS levels was created, and correlation analyses were carried out depending on the variables used. Results revealed high levels of self-attributed cultural competence and training as well as low levels of awareness and motivation for intercultural encounters. Theoretical knowledge appeared to be the only aspect in correlation with all dimensions of IS. Important deficits have been also observed when examining the type and intensity of contact among professionals and people of foreign origin. This highlights the need to transform knowledge in culturally adapted responses. Future research is necessary to deepen knowledge on how these aspects affect professional interventions.     

家庭文化资本对幼儿社会情感能力发展的影响研究：基于五省调查数据的实证分析

社会情感能力是幼儿未来生活和学习成功的重要因素。家庭是幼儿成长的第一课堂,在幼儿社会情感能力的发展中发挥着不可或缺的作用。笔者以四川、新疆、广西、云南、陕西4325位幼儿家长为研究对象,通过问卷调查了解家庭文化资本和幼儿社会情感能力发展现状,并探析家庭文化资本对幼儿社会情感能力的具体影响。结果显示：家庭文化资本与幼儿社会情感能力之间呈现显著正相关并可以正向预测幼儿社会情感能力;不同水平的家庭文化资本对幼儿社会情感能力及各维度具有显著影响。研究建议：家庭要树立科学的教育观念,不断提升家庭文化资本水平;幼儿园要深入推进家园合作,为幼儿社会情感能力发展提供教育支持;政府部门要建立补偿性教育机制,弥补处境不利儿童家庭文化资本的不足。     

英语专业翻译人才胜任力培育研究

本文意从社会需求角度入手,从翻译人才培养目标、教学模式、课程设置和教学内容四个方面分析目前高校英语专业翻译教学的现状及存在的主要问题,并结合翻译理论与教学实践等过程,针对性地提出改进建议,以实现教学创新,培养复合型翻译人才,达到学以致用的目标,进而增强毕业生的工作胜任力。     

美国社会保障法律制度探究

美国是世界上最早制定系统的社会保障法律制度的国家,其社会保障法律制度具有鲜明的市场化特点,目标是公平与效率的统一。美国社会保障法律制度在促进经济发展、维护社会稳定和调节各利益集团的关系方面都发挥着积极作用,但也存在着一些不可忽视的问题。分析美国社会保障法律制度的特点、问题及改革过程,对正处于转型期的中国有一定的启示：社会保障法律制度的建立和运行要以立法为保障并与经济发展相适应,应格外关注弱势群体利益,应积极应对即将进入的老龄社会带来的问题。     

包裹立法的原理与技术——以《关于修改部分法律的决定》为主要素材

2009年8月27日,十一届全国人大常委会第十次会议审议通过了关于修改部分法律的决定,共修改了59件法律中的141条规定,这是我国首例成功的包裹立法,但其中也存在着＂繁＂、＂空＂、＂盲＂、＂乱＂、＂穷＂及＂迟＂等问题。以此为镜,立法机关应考虑确定包裹立法的名称,规定直接的立法目的,及时清理法律文本,选择包裹立法的标题,调整专门委员会的分工,配备优秀的立法人才,以及修改完善立法法的相关内容。     

欧盟排放交易的立法进程及其对中国的启示

欧盟排放交易机制的立法进程对中国碳交易立法具有借鉴意义。中国可以借鉴欧盟渐进式的立法进路,并结合自身特点,通过试点模式,摸索建立大范围的温室气体排放交易机制的可行性。欧盟排放交易机制立法全面的智力支持体系对中国的启示是:应对温室气体排放交易机制进行系统化的研究,综合分析应对气候变化的各种政策并保证各利益方的充分参与。
