A practitioner's reflections on facilitating organization development in South African organizations

Globalization, contrary to the opinion of many HRD professionals, has led to a better world, one in which greater numbers of people have the opportunity for peace, prosperity and freedom. Anti-global critics are tragically wrong for they condemn millions of people to poverty, disease, force migrations, ethical strife, and terrorism. HRD professionals shold not be persuaded by anecdotal, selective and sentimental stories, but act with real facts and offer real, long-term solutions.

Organizational identity,political contexts,and SMO action: Explaining the tactical choices made by peace organizations in Israel,Northern Ireland,and South Africa

Students of social movements have long been interested in the question of why social movement organizations (SMOs) employ the tactics that they do. This paper explores this question by examining twenty-seven SMOs engaged in peace and conflict resolution in Israel, Northern Ireland, and South Africa. While the investigation reveals that SMOs across the sample employed an eclectic mix of tactics to pursue their goals, both cross-region and within-region variations in SMOs' tactical behavior are identified. The paper argues that cross-region variations in tactical behavior are best explained by the political contexts of each region and demonstrates that SMOs' organizational identities best account for within-region variations. Overall, the analysis supports scholars' claims that organizational identities ultimately drive the goals that SMOs pursue, the mix of tactics they emphasize, the degree to which they change their tactics over time, and, most importantly, the extent to which they are willing to engage in extra-institutional modes of action (protest, civil disobedience, violence).

中国古代宫廷女性比普通女性面临更多的窘迫和危机,汉魏六朝诗歌对此有多方面的表现。缘于长门幽怨和班婕妤故事的"宫怨"类诗歌,叙写了宫闱竞争的残酷与失宠妃嫔的悲怨;缘于刘细君和王昭君故事的"和亲"类诗歌,抒发了政治设局中公主远嫁异域、青春被毁的忧伤;《中山王孺子妾歌》、《铜雀台》、《碧玉歌》等乐府诗题以及大量风格香艳的宫体诗,则揭示了地位低下的宫女在生活中是君王玩狎的对象,在诗歌中只能是审美性物化符号的悲惨命运。
