The Public Perception of Female and Male Violence in Marital Relationships

Most studies dealing with intimate partner violence (IPV) investigate situations where the man is the aggressor. The present study examines the participants’ social perception of IPV and the connection between social perception and the severity of the violent act and its justification when carried out by men against women and vice versa. The research is based on a structured, self-reported anonymous questionnaire answered by 240 participants. The questionnaire examined demographic variables, attitudes toward IPV, the severity of the violent act, and its justification. Findings indicate that violent behavior of women is perceived as more justified than that of men and that men’s violent behavior is perceived as more severe by women than by men, but women’s violent behavior is perceived to be equally severe by men and women. The study raises awareness of the lack of gender boundaries in violence and of gender discrimination against males.     

A Narrative Approach to Group Work with Men Who Batter

A narrative approach to group work with men who batter is presented with case examples. The approach is based in feminist and constructionist theory and seeks to expose and undermine the effects of patriarchal discourse in the lives and relationships of group members. The approach emphasizes an understanding of gender discourse, taking responsibility for actions, and exploring new definitional possibilities for participants and their relationships. The techniques of radical listening, the principle of least contest, breaking the allure of male entitlement and its effects, and cocreating a new male way of being are discussed with case examples.     

A male fitness advantage to wing reduction in the oriental chinch bug,Cavelerius saccharivorus okajima (heteroptera: Lygaeidae)

Summary A male fitness advantage to wing reduction was investigated for the oriental chinch bug,Cavelerius saccharivorus, which is wing dimorphic. Field surveys for the frequency of matings between wing morphs showed that the mating probability was much higher in brachypterous males than in macropterous males in the early breeding season. Brachypterous males copulated with not only brachypterous females but also macropterous females in this season. This led to a considerable rate (30%) of insemination of macropterous females just before emigration even in the early breeding season. A rearing experiment for the pre-reproductive period of females revealed that females mated with brachypterous males copulated and oviposited earlier than females mated with macropterous males. These results indicate that there is a fitness advantage to wing reduction in the males ofC. saccharivorus in terms of the earlier sexual maturation.

“他指”视域下的婚前守贞——基于农业院校大学男生的调查

从男性的眼里看女性守贞,从一个侧面反映了男性对于性的认识和态度,以及对性别平等的认识和男性觉悟的程度。当代大学男生对婚前性的严厉与包容并存,性别歧视依然存在,但性别公平意识在不断增强,部分男性觉悟到了父权文化和体制对女性的伤害。     

试论《白雪公主后传》中的戏仿颠覆

著名美国后现代主义文学家唐纳德.巴塞尔姆的代表作《白雪公主后传》,让读者自然联想到家喻户晓的格林童话《白雪公主与七个小矮人》。然而巴塞尔姆这部小说无论从人物塑造、故事情节还是主题上,都彻底颠覆了人们熟知的格林童话故事。文中大量的后现代写作技巧尤其是戏仿的运用,对格林童话故事进行了挑战、否定与颠覆,使之成为后现代主义作品的经典之作。研究《白雪公主后传》中的戏仿手法,可以窥见后现代主义小说中独特的颠覆魅力。     

北美华人女性英文叙事中的男性他者

北美华裔女性作家在双重文化背景下,书写了隐藏自我的男性他者：缄默的、被“阉割”的男性他者,隐藏着女性意识觉醒的女性自我;重整雄风的、拾声的男性他者,隐藏着追求两性解放的勇敢的女性自我;人性张扬的、融汇多元文化的现代男性他者,隐藏着追求复归人性、两性和谐共生的女性自我。     

爱情从“神圣”回归“世俗”——《红字》与《S.》的比较研究

《红字》是19世纪中期美国后期浪漫主义作家霍桑的代表作。《S.》是至今仍活跃在美国文坛的现实主义作家厄普代克的作品。厄普代克明确表示《S.》与《红字》存在着联系,且种种迹象表明《S.》对《红字》进行了戏拟,是后者的续作。本文对以上两部小说做了比较阅读及研究,分析两部小说在爱情主题的内涵上的异同及其意义,并以此为例,探讨了续作与原著之间的关系。

在对"神话"与"历史"的双重反思与参照下,华夏文明的历史叙事有其独特的发生形式,它们不仅受神话思维的支配,而且呈现出与所谓神话"历史化"不同的"神话历史"特征.文章以此为切入点,通过理解<春秋>的性质与特征,论证有关神话与历史对立与分道扬镳的观点,不但有助于解释中国文化基因,而且会造成新的遮蔽;重新理解神话概念的穿透性和生成性,是重新进入中国式神话历史的必要途径.
