The self in selfies—Conceptualizing the selfie-coordination of marginalized youth with sociology of engagements

This article develops a theory of selfies as reflexive practices of self-coordination. Building on pragmatist sociology of engagements, I conceptualize selfies as digital practices of coordinating with the self in formats that are recognizable for others. This framework allows approaching the self as an act of coordination, simultaneously shaped by, and equipped to subvert the cultural conditions of how we ought to be. As these conditions are increasingly enforced and negotiated in the socio-technological arrangements of digital platforms, the article proposes an approach for making sense of selfies as key contemporary tools of self-making. Based on ethnographic work among activists with marginalizing experiences, I ask how the self is coordinated in the activists' selfies. I identify four ways of coordinating with the self in selfies: the self in a plan, the self in exploration, the affirmed self, and the self as public critique. The article contributes to our understanding on how practices of self-making evolve in an increasingly visual-digital society, and provides an approach for conceptualising the self as plural. By approaching the selfie as different formats of relating to the self, the framework proposed accounts for the possibility of multiple selves now afforded by digital technologies and enables analysing their politicizing potential.     

Historical meaning of post-Fukushima social movements: Crisis in hegemony in postwar Japan and prefigurative politics in the 2010s

Since the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011 and the nuclear power plant accident, a number of movements have emerged in Japanese society, including the anti-nuclear power movement and others with a variety of agendas. The social movements of the 2010s in Japan have expanded along with the spread of social networking services and have brought together a new class of people who are different from those of the established movements. This article will compare and examine the social movements of the 2010s with those of the past, as well as the function they played in the social structure. In the early 2020s, a structural crisis in the political and economic foundations of postwar Japan has become apparent. The Japanese social movements of the 2010s were movements that pressed for the transformation of the old social system as well as the transformation of the old anti-system movements. Thus, this movement had the distinction of prefiguring a fundamental shift in the confrontational frame of reference between conservatism and progressivism that had shaped postwar Japan. This article will discuss the historical significance of the Japanese social movements of the 2010s in light of the structural factors behind the decline of the social base of both conservative and progressive forces.     

The use of diaries for understanding the experience of health and illness

While diaries as a method have a long tradition in sociological research, few studies to date have demonstrated its value for studying health and illness. This article intends to illustrate the importance of this method for health research. The implications of the use of solicited diaries to conduct research within the field of health and illness are discussed. The contributions that the method can make to sociological research on health and illness are explored, namely the potential to capture the everyday of ill people and their family members. Indeed, this method offers an opportunity to access the experience of illness in a multidimensional approach which is not easy for researchers to catch using other methods. The article aims to present an overview of the significance of the use of diaries in health research and will make a novel contribution to the sociology of health and illness.     

基于情境范式的芝加哥学派犯罪社会学研究

犯罪社会学是芝加哥学派城市研究的主要议题之一。在分析了后芝加哥学派变量范式霸权给当前社会学研究带来学科发展困境的基础上,指出应该重新考虑芝加哥学派情境范式的学科意义,以在量化研究的变量范式之外重新拓展社会学研究中的情境范式的质化进路。通过对托马斯的情境定义概念、萨瑟兰德的职业窃贼研究以及贝克尔标签理论的回顾,明确指出情境范式在犯罪社会学研究中的特殊意义及其对我国犯罪社会学研究的可资借鉴之处。     

文本社会学比较三题

文本社会学是奥地利学者皮埃尔·V·齐马提出的文本批评理论,它整合了社会学批评、结构主义批评以及精神分析批评的学术资源,打通了文学的"内部研究"与"外部研究",是一种集"经验"和"批判"于一体的社会学批评理论.较之文化研究、文化诗学、重建文艺社会学的理论构想,齐马理论汲取和融合了它们的理论优势;又在弥补了一定程度上它们的一些不足.因此,它可以成为21世纪中国文艺学学科多元化、多样化发展中的一元,并为文学研究提供一种精致而有效的理论范式.     

国际海底区域资源开发的法律困境与善治之道——以海洋命运共同体为视角

国际海底区域资源具有突出的经济、科研和军事价值,已被《联合国海洋法公约》列为人类共同继承财产。我国提出的海洋命运共同体理念,为完善国际海底区域资源开发制度提供了战略新思路。然而,我国在参与国际海底区域资源开发中,面临着人类共同继承财产原则被异化、平行开发制度实施受掣肘、资源开发污染问题仍严峻、保留区开发主体界定有缺漏等法律困境。有鉴于此,我国应以海洋命运共同体理念为指导,通过构建国际海底区域规则的引领国地位、完善环保规则与"资源"法律定义、优化国际海底区域开发主体的规定、释明和健全许可证制度等措施,构建我国在国际海底区域资源开发中的善治之道。     

现代社会中组织与社会的联结:理性的类型关联

组织与社会的联结是现代组织社会学领域一个重要的理论主题,但是在组织社会学理论领域尚未得到应有的讨论。本文尝试从理性关联的角度在理论上厘清这一主题:一是组织理性和社会理性类型具有一致性,二是组织理性和社会理性的进化具有关联特性。     

社会的生产

在当今全球化的潮流中,国家权力和市场联袂登台,携手推进商品化。这个急剧扩展的进程将经济（和政治)领域极大地膨胀起来,挤压了社会领域。这就迫使“保卫社会”成为当代社会学的核心议题。不过,在中国市场转型期的独特背景下,由于以往的“再分配体制”从根本上压抑了自组织的社会生活,因此,“生产社会”而不是“保卫社会”成为第一位的任务,它既是一个社会实践的任务,也是社会学认知的任务。同样由于历史条件的独特聚集,“生产社会”表现为二重性,即我们不得不在同一个时空条件下,将波拉尼意义上的“能动社会”与葛兰西意义上的“公民社会”共同地生产出来。此种社会生产的特殊性决定了人们在社会行动的层面上必须同时打造“阶级”和打造“公民”。本文旨在说明“社会生产”的二重机制,并借以探讨“公民社会”的微观基础。     

研究中国宗教的社会学范式杨庆堃眼中的中国社会宗教

摘要：本文通过杨庆堃教授对中国宗教极其卓越和具有开创性的研究,来审视中国宗教的社会学范式。杨氏的《中国社会中的宗教》是一部堪称现代经典的华丽巨著,是中国宗教社会学研究的典范之作,是社会学学者研究中国宗教的重要参考书,具有极高的学术价值和理论创新意义。相对于西方宗教的制度性,杨氏提出发散性宗教的概念,指出散开宗教的信仰和仪式有机会发展为有组织的社会体系,同时它是作为社会组织模式整体的一部分,在散开的形式中,宗教发挥着多样的功能,以组织的方式出现在中国社会生活中。杨氏是第一个从宽阔的社会学角度来证明中国宗教存在形式、合理性以及历史传统的华裔学者,对于其后学者的研究奠定了重要的学术基础。     

可持续发展观下我国海洋环境资源法的完善

根据可持续发展观,要构建与完善海洋环境资源法,应当改变过去海洋环境保护与海洋资源保护相分离的立法思路,改变粗放式的管理立法,树立整体性原则和可持续发展原则,在此指导下建立健全统一的海洋环境资源法体系,并设立确保海洋环境资源可持续利用的相关制度。
