作为一种类型和理想的道义社会

道义社会作为社会学类型研究的一种类型是当代中国利益相对均衡下的系统整合,是强国家、强社会发展模式雏形实现的良性体现,也因此成为分析中国当代民生工程建设的理论前提。其内涵是:第一,道义社会是以明确的国家、社会和个体责任为主体和基础的;第二,道义社会是以情感、道德等软性力量为主要社会维系手段和支撑;第三,道义社会是以民众和国家的整体受益和终极关怀为根本的;第四,道义社会是以人的本性为生存基础的。     

Cultural Valorization and African American Literary History: Reconstructing the Canon

The determinants of and variations in processes of cultural valorization are of increasing interest to sociologists. In the case of high-culture literary texts, the central evaluation process takes place through canon formation. We explore the mechanisms of canon formation and of cultural valorization processes more generally by analyzing the critical history of Zora Neale Hurston's novel Their Eyes Were Watching God. Published in 1937 to lukewarm reviews, the novel is currently considered a core canonical text. We specify three processes involved in the reconstruction of Hurston's novel and in the establishment of the African American literary canon: (1) the application of new evaluative criteria, (2) the reconstruction of textual meaning through newly available interpretative strategies, and (3) changes in the institutional and organizational environment that allowed new claims on high-status critical positions to be made by those previously outside the literary hierarchy. The implications of this study for theoretical models of cultural valorization in sociology are considered.

留学生是中国宣传马克思主义的先驱,同时也是建设中国马克思主义社会学的主要代表。具有马克思主义信仰的留学生从探讨马克思主义的社会结构理论出发,对中国重大的社会问题进行研究,并广泛开展社会调查工作,努力形成对中国社会的整体认知,从而使中国马克思主义社会学的建立具有事实的基础,这就为马克思主义社会学的中国化作出了积极的贡献。

长期以来我们对公共艺术的研究基本上是从艺术的角度出发的。而随着公共艺术与社会生活各领域关系的日益加深,对公共艺术的研究如果还局限于艺术的角度那是远远不够的。社会学的理论和研究方法给我们提供了一种新的研究思路。它可以从公共艺术与社会政治、经济、法律、艺术等各个方面的联系出发,揭示其内在结构和运作规律,为我们更深入理解公共艺术提供一个新的视角。     

Financial Resources and Product Market Development: Strategic Choice and Institutional Processes During China's Transition

During an economic transition from socialism, market exchange replaces redistribution. We study firm decisions to enter product markets to understand the factors that influence this process. Managers in Chinese State Owned Enterprises operated within institutional constraints to make strategic decisions, and state intervention shaped which factors were salient. Firms financed through central government and bond issues relied less on markets. Firms funded through local government moved into markets faster; firms funded by banks were initially faster to markets but slower to markets after bank reform shifted lending policies. Thus, the accessibility, flexibility, and stability of financing shaped decisions about market entrance.     

Lumping and splitting: Notes on social classification

This paper examines the mental process of grouping “similar” things together in distinct clusters and separating “different” clusters from one another. The role language plays in providing us with seemingly homogeneous mental niches for lumping things together yet at the same time allowing us to carve seemingly discrete categories out of experiential continua directs the sociological study of classification to intersubjective, conventional mindscapes that are neither personal nor “logical.” The paper identifies a nonmetric, topological mode of thinking that involves playing down intracluster while exaggerating intercluster mental distances and ends with some methodological observations of the need to approach classification from a comparative perspective as well as highlighting the role of spatial zoning, rites of separation, and Freudian slips in the study of the social construction of difference and similarity.     

能源、环境与可持续发展的社会学审视

能源关系人类社会的可持续性前景,然而当前国内社会学界却在与能源相关的学术研究、现实对策方面均存在着失声的状况。但是,国外社会学中却已经形成了与此相关的大量研究成果。本文通过将这些研究分为能源与社会类型、能源问题的社会生产机制、能源消费、能源供给4个方面,由此回顾了国外与能源问题相关的社会学研究。在此基础上,本文进一步展望了将来国内关于能源问题的社会学研究值得关注的领域与问题。
