Smoothing the difference-based estimates of variance using variational mode decomposition

We propose a variational mode decomposition approach to estimate the variance function in a nonparametric heteroscedastic fixed design regression model. A data-driven estimator is constructed by applying variational mode decomposition technique to the difference-based initial estimates. The numerical results show that the proposed estimator performs better than the existing variance estimation procedures in the mean square sense.     

Simultaneous decomposition of the variance by sources and subgroups – new insights

There are two types of decompositions: of linear combinations of random variables into contributions of individual variables (sources) and associations between them, and of populations into contributions of their subpopulations. Simultaneous treatment of the two types is called for, which takes into account the correlations between sources within subpopulations and between subpopulation means. The expected values of the subcomponents are derived and their sensitivity to correlations among sources within groups and among source group means is conducted. An example is provided, in which the correlations contribute 20--25% to total variability. This additional information is hidden when decompositions are not simultaneous.     

Fragments of Modernization: Domestic Spaces Indicating Traditional Dialects in a Modern Speech

This article examines the change in Turkish domestic space through modernization and, in particular, the artifact of lace, as a nonchanging object in Turkish home in its relationship with the “traditional” and the “modern” domestic settings. Thereby it investigates how traditional and modern settings are defined in Turkish society and, this leads to a further analysis of the modernization process in Turkey within the scope of Turkish house and its domestic settings. The aim of the article is to analyze lace as an agent, which is an actant of the change in domestic settings, to read the connection between the daily life of people and social lives of artifacts. Therefore, examining the dialogue of lace with traditional and modern domestic settings provides to deconstruct the network of the artifact, the house and the individual during the modernization process that Turkish society has been through. The theoretical perspective of the article relies on a material‐semiotic approach with an emphasis on Latour's Actor‐Network Theory and, the methodology of the article is based on ethnography: It includes observations and semi‐structured interviews conducted with people from different social environments focusing on the meaning and the use of lace in domestic environment.

教材在大学英语教学体系中处于中枢地位,是教学大纲的具体化以及教学内容的重要依托。近年来,随着英语教学改革的深化与发展,国内教材市场空前繁荣,各种英语教材和辅导材料充斥市场。如何选择合适的大学英语教材,充分发挥其在外语教学中的作用至关重要。文章在国内外学者研究的基础上,结合《大学英语课程教学要求（试行）》对大学英语课程的任务和总体目标,从教材的教学指导思想、设计与组织、内容、教学法、教师参考书等方面拟定了一个大学英语教材评估标准。

<尔雅>是我国现存最早的一部辞典,书中存在一些错误的说法."尔雅新证"是指利用甲骨文、金文等出土古文字材料来校读<尔雅>的一种研究方法.这一方法既可以验证<尔雅>中正确的训释,也可以指出讹误之处.<尔雅>中某些训释和郭璞、邢昺注疏存在明显错误.传世古籍的整理工作应该重视考古材料的作用.

独立学院校园文化由物质文化、精神文化和制度文化构成。通过调查问卷定量分析校园文化的各方面在独立学院中的影响力。数据显示:当前独立学院校园文化建设正处于初级阶段,物质文化建设能够最为有效地促进校园文化的发展,其次为制度文化,最后为精神文化。提出加强基础设施建设、夯实物质文化;规范院系管理制度、完善制度文化;开展特色文化活动、丰富精神文化的独立学院校园文化建设对策。指出物质是基础,制度是保障,精神是升华,三方面全面协调健康发展才能保证独立学院校园文化的可持续发展。
