Predicting Whistle Blowing: A Theory of Reasoned Action Approach

Fishbein and Ajzen's Reasoned Action model was used to predict intention to blow the whistle. Accounting students attending an Israeli university and accountant practitioners were used as the subjects for the study. It was hypothesized that attitudes and social norms would directly explain intention, while professional obligation, locus of control and professional socialization would modify the criterion variable through attitudes and social norms. Findings showed that social norms directly influenced intent to blow the whistle among both samples, as hypothesized. However, locus of control and professional socialization also directly influenced intent, rather than modifying the criterion variable. Suggestions for further research are included.     

Questions from Newbies—Facilitating Communication and Professional Development: A Case Study

Abstract

For new collection managers, it may be intimidating to ask questions about processes that seem to be common knowledge for their more experienced colleagues. To help with this issue, the Collections & Research Strategy department at North Carolina State University Libraries uses a shared document where new collection managers can log questions as they arise. The questions are shared at regular Collections Interest Group meetings and often generate interesting discussions that librarians both new and experienced can benefit from. This case study will provide an overview of the structure of the document, how it is used, and the types of questions that get asked.     

Educational potential of e-social work: social work training in Spain

ABSTRACT

Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have enhanced peer communication and contributed to social change and, as such, have become an essential tool in the initial training and professional development of future social work practitioners. In the new millennium, it is particularly important to provide the foundations for delivering appropriate interventions in the fields of social education, social services, healthcare and development cooperation. To face these new challenges, training programmes in the framework of the European Higher Education Area should facilitate the acquisition of skills and competencies through curricula based on ongoing assessment which promote creativity and educational innovation. Through a systematic and comprehensive review of the scientific literature, this article examines the educational potential of e-social work in Spain and the training needs of social workers from an interdisciplinary approach. A critical debate is presented throughout the paper to encourage reflection among professionals. The study highlights the importance of the acquisition of digital skills through the development of educational intervention programmes using the latest technological media and resources with a view to serving citizens in these new spaces of interaction.     

Social service professionals in Finland under the pressures of a depressed economy and European integration

The Nordic welfare states are known as women-friendly. However, during the last years their policies have been to turn the back on women. At least in Finland there seem to exist two powerful forces that have advanced the non-egalitarian development: the economic recession of the 1990s and the integration of Europe. The decline of the Nordic welfare states is going to have considerable consequences for social service professionals, the great majority of whom are women. Therefore, they should create new strategies and find new allies in order to defend their own as well their clients rights.

了解北京市居民对医院评价的影响因素是提高医疗服务整体水平和质量的前提。本文以累积Logistic模型为主要方法 ,研究影响北京市居民就诊满意的因素。将各因素按照医疗消费行为特点归为供方因素和需方因素两个方面 ,通过不同的模型找出具有显著作用的变量 ,同时测度其效应的相对大小。研究发现 ,就诊费用是影响居民就诊满意供方因素中最显著的一个 ,而需方因素效应在不同模型中表现不大一样     

构建我国职业教育体系的背景和依据

职业模式的发展使得职技人才知识能力结构的技术含量、理论深度不断提升,其相应的学历层次必定随之高延。地区发展不平衡,各行业职业的发展程度也不尽相同,造成我国社会同时存在着不同阶段的职业模式。在构建职教体系时,必须顾及多层次、多样化职技人才的培养。现代社会职业行为的新定位以及就业新观念,要求职技人才具有适应能力和创新能力,这一要求应由职教体系中的学历教育与非学历教育共同完成。职教体系的构建应以终身教育思想为依据,发展和完善职教观;促进非学历教育从边缘走向核心,并采取相应的机制和举措。     

Social Work Students Cope with Terror

This study examines the responses of social work students to the wave of terror of the Second Intifada, focusing on issues of professional identity raised by the terror. The study, based on statements of students who lost meaningful persons in the terror and on class discussions, identifies four key issues involving the formation of the students' professional identity that were accentuated by the terror. These are: (1) the conflict between personal needs and professional needs; (2) doubts about professional competence; (3) the conflict between carving out personal space and meeting professional responsibilities, and (4) the difficulties of doing fieldwork under terror. The study also observes the discomfort of the Arab students in the situation.

教师专业化是美国教师教育改革的主要取向,并已取得了明显的成效,形成了其自身的一些特点:注意教师的组织背景;面向学校实际的合作;扎根教师的工作实践;注重教师的参与研究;建立合理的评价系统。本文试图在分析这些特点的基础上,结合我国教师专业化发展的现状,针对所存在的问题,提出改进的建议,以期对我国教师专业化的发展有所启示。
