An efficient and fast algorithm for estimating the frequencies of superimposed exponential signals in zero-mean multiplicative and additive noise

In this paper, we consider the superimposed exponential signals in zero-mean multiplicative and additive noise when all the noise are independently and identically distributed. We use a three-step iterative procedure to estimate the frequencies of the considered model. It is observed that the estimators are consistent and work quite well in terms of biases and mean square errors. Moreover, the convergence rate of the estimators attains O _p (N ^?3/2), which is the best convergence rate in the case of only additive noise and constant amplitude.     

A Bayesian approach for generalized linear models with explanatory biomarker measurement variables subject to detection limit: an application to acute lung injury

Biomarkers have the potential to improve our understanding of disease diagnosis and prognosis. Biomarker levels that fall below the assay detection limits (DLs), however, compromise the application of biomarkers in research and practice. Most existing methods to handle non-detects focus on a scenario in which the response variable is subject to the DL; only a few methods consider explanatory variables when dealing with DLs. We propose a Bayesian approach for generalized linear models with explanatory variables subject to lower, upper, or interval DLs. In simulation studies, we compared the proposed Bayesian approach to four commonly used methods in a logistic regression model with explanatory variable measurements subject to the DL. We also applied the Bayesian approach and other four methods in a real study, in which a panel of cytokine biomarkers was studied for their association with acute lung injury (ALI). We found that IL8 was associated with a moderate increase in risk for ALI in the model based on the proposed Bayesian approach.     

A single-featured EWMA-X control chart for detecting shifts in process mean and standard deviation

The combined EWMA-X chart is a commonly used tool for monitoring both large and small process shifts. However, this chart requires calculating and monitoring two statistics along with two sets of control limits. Thus, this study develops a single-featured EWMA-X (called SFEWMA-X) control chart which has the ability to simultaneously monitor both large and small process shifts using only one set of statistic and control limits. The proposed SFEWMA-X chart is further extended to monitoring the shifts in process standard deviation. A set of simulated data are used to demonstrate the proposed chart's superior performance in terms of average run length compared with that of the traditional charts. The experimental examples also show that the SFEWMA-X chart is neater and easier to visually interpret than the original EWMA-X chart.     

Asymptotic behaviour of a test statistic for detection of change in mean of vectors

The paper gives an asymptotic distribution of a test statistic for detecting a change in a mean of random vectors with dependent components. The studied test statistic has a form of a maximum of a square Euclidean norms of vectors with components being standardized partial cumulative sums of deviations from means. The limit distribution was obtained using a result of Piterbarg [1994. High deviations for multidimensional stationary Gaussian processes with independent components. In: Zolotarev, V.M. Expected sample moments of concomitants of selected order statistics

In this paper, the task of determining expected values of sample moments, where the sample members have been selected based on noisy information, is considered. This task is a recurring problem in the theory of evolution strategies. Exact expressions for expected values of sums of products of concomitants of selected order statistics are derived. Then, using Edgeworth and Cornish-Fisher approximations, explicit results that depend on coefficients that can be determined numerically are obtained. While the results are exact only for normal populations, it is shown experimentally that including skewness and kurtosis in the calculations can yield greatly improved results for other distributions.     

Target detection from a classical and a Bayesian viewpoint

Two approaches have been used for designing spatial surveys to detect a target. The classical approach controls the probability of missing a target that exists; a Bayesian approach controls the probability that a target exists given that none was seen. In both cases, information about the likely size of the target can reduce sampling requirements. In this paper, previous results are summarized and then used to assess the risk that Roman remains could be present at sites scheduled for development in Greater London.     

一种视频图像中运动目标检测方法研究

针对序列图像中的运动目标检测问题,在独立分量分析的基本理论和算法的基础上,提出采用基于正交对称矩阵的快速定点算法对实际视频图像中的运动目标进行运动检测的方法。实验结果表明:该方法不仅能检测运动轨迹,还能提取运动目标的轮廓,并判断运动方向,是一种有效的运动目标检测方法。     

保险代理人管理中的信息不对称问题——一个理论分析框架

信息不对称问题对保险代理人的管理影响巨大。利用保单类别噪音模型进行的理论分析表明，在信息不对称的情况下，为获得一个良好的均衡结果，保险公司应对保险代理人保持适当的怀疑，将保单质量与代理人的报酬给付联系起来。进入门槛抑制道德风险的作用关键在于保证一个可置信的威胁，最优均衡的达到有赖于外部力量，这就要求行业协会和监管机构的作用应进一步加强。
