Limit theorems for intermediate and central order statistics under nonlinear normalization

In this paper the work of Pancheva (1984) for extreme order statistics under nonlinear normalization is extended to order statistics with variable ranks. Two new results are proved. The first is that under nonlinear normalization, the nondegenerate type (family of types) of the distribution functions with two finite growth points is a possible weak limit of any central order statistic with regular rank sequence. The second result is that the possible nondegenerate weak limits of any central order statistic with regular rank under the traditionally linear normalization and under the power normalization are the same. Finally, the class of all possible weak limits for lower and upper intermediate order statistics is derived under power normalization from the corresponding weak limits of extremes under power normalization.     

Can digital skills raise occupational prestige among ethnic minorities?

Using data from a large-scale Annual Social Survey of Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics, we investigate the correlation between digital skills and occupational prestige among veteran Jews and two minority groups, namely Arabs and immigrants to Israel from the Former Soviet Union (FSU). Our findings show that both minority groups have significant disadvantages in occupational prestige compared to veteran Jews. Although causation cannot be inferred because of the correlational design of our study, digital skills were found to contribute to occupational prestige among veteran Jews and FSU immigrants, beyond the classic socio-demographic factors. The occupational prestige gap between veteran Jews and FSU immigrants was eliminated after controlling for socio-demographic variables and before taking digital skills into consideration. The effect of digital skills on occupational prestige among Arabs was insignificant and after controlling for socio-demographic and digital skills, the gap in occupational prestige between veteran Jews and Arabs remained significant.     

Higher-order expansions of extremes from mixed skew-t distribution

In this article, we study the asymptotic behaviors of the extreme of mixed skew-t distribution. We consider limits on distribution and density of maximum of mixed skew-t distribution under linear and power normalizations, and further derive their higher-order expansions, respectively. Examples are given to support our findings.
