Abstract

An increasing number of people with Down syndrome are at risk of dementia resulting from Alzheimer's disease. Many reside in community group homes. When they are affected by dementia, the challenge to agencies providing group homes is how to best provide continued housing and provide effective dementia-related care management. In the general population, long term care is typically provided in nursing facilities, often in special care units (SCUs). This study evaluated select factors found in group homes and SCUs to determine which is able to provide a better quality of life for people with Down syndrome affected by dementia. Interviews, using quality of life indicators, were conducted at 20 sites, equally selected from group homes and SCUs, on the basis of their experience with people with dementia. Results indicate that group homes can provide conditions associated with better quality of life and, additionally, operate with lower staffing costs due to the non-utilization of medical staff.  相似文献

短期援外培训项目是我国援外政策的一个重要组成部分,但是缺乏对影响这类项目的有效性因素的实证研究。本文建立了一个短期援外培训项目有效性的分析框架,对南京、天津四所高校承担的部分援外培训项目进行了调研,使用偏最小二乘法对模型进行了验证。结果表明,我国短期援外培训项目的有效性与课程质量、培训机构及管理人员的执行力之间存在显著的正相关关系。文章最后对如何提高教育援外短期培训项目的有效性提出了相关政策建议。  相似文献

以中外合作办学项目100名新生为研究对象,通过问卷及词汇试卷调查学生词汇策略使用状况,分析词汇策略和词汇成绩之间的相关性,以及词汇策略使用差异。结果表明:中外合作项目学生在词汇学习观念上存在偏差,且观念和行动不一致;词汇策略使用总体状况不理想,即使是成绩优秀的学生,也不善综合使用元认知策略和多种认知策略促进词汇学习。在研究结果基础上,对词汇教学提出了建议。  相似文献

教师评鉴应以形成性评鉴为主、总结性评鉴为辅,二者各有其目的和功能。规划健全的多轨道教师评鉴制度是长期而专业的任务,建议把握法制化、专业化、民主化、弹性化等策略或原则。其推动策略包括:持续推动教师评鉴纳入“教师法”、扩大办理教师专业发展评鉴、落实教师成绩考核、建立教学辅导教师制度、加强不适任教师的辅导与处理、建立初任教师辅导与评鉴制度、根据教师专业标准持续研修教师评鉴规准。  相似文献

The present study examined the ability of people with substance‐dependence problems to cope with stressful events and refrain from resuming alcohol drinking and the use of drugs. This study specifically examined the length of time that substance abusing‐residents spent in a state‐owned, residential‐based therapeutic community program at Lembang‐Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. A study sample of 68 residents completed a questionnaire with four sections. The results of this study showed no significant differences in the scores rating the coping behavior of the residents according to the length of stay in the program. This study also found no significant differences in the Coping Behavioral Inventory scores of the residents according to the level scores of total Coping Strategy Inventory. It is important for social workers to understand the relationship between the length of stay of residents and their ability to cope so that they can effectively engage in intervention work with individuals with substance‐dependence issues who participate in the therapeutic community.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

At first glance, the worlds of program professionals and evaluators may seem quite separate. However, there are common issues whose resolution will enhance both program development and research on programs. Program professionals and evaluators have a great deal to learn from each other. As that learning occurs, both program delivery and evaluation research will benefit. Both are concerned about matters of validity, whether it pertains to the nature of the program intervention itself or to the nature of the assessment of the program intervention. To reinforce the development of program evaluation in partnership, this paper discusses key points about evaluation research relevant to both program professionals and researchers. These include the contextual influences on a program, the “readiness” of a program for evaluation, and whether the evaluation research “works” for the program. Underlying our discussion is a call for the development of partnerships around research on programs. In that light, this article elaborates the process steps that should be taken to build program evaluation partnerships, including a discussion of what evaluators and program professionals need to know about each other, and their respective values, interests, and professional perspectives.  相似文献

Abstract

This article discusses the founding and operation of the Emmett J. and Mary Martha Doerr Center for Social Justice Education and Research, an endowed nonprofit organization located within the School of Social Service at Saint Louis University. The nonprofit Center provides a creative mechanism for facilitating university-community agency research. The Research Education Partnership (REP) model creates a partnership among students, community agency personnel, and faculty in funded practice research and program evaluation. Four collaborations, their benefits and challenges, are described. Students are prepared to integrate research into practice. The Center promotes and supports faculty-community partnerships for social justice.  相似文献
