Into the Lion's Den:

The need to "couple," to have that special person with whom we share not only sexual intimacy but a past, present, and future, is not limited to the "straight" world. Raised by heterosexual parents, gays (male homosexuals) desire that same type of intimacy. Given that intimate relationships provide a very necessary function for the larger community of heterosexuals, those relationships should provide the same function for gays. This paper examines the differences and similarities between long-term gay and heterosexual intimate relationships, and the support each of those types of relationships receives from the community in which they exist.     

Preparing the next generation of researchers

This paper examines the needs of new and future social work researchers in the light of the overall aims of this particular project. The author is an aspiring ‘new’ researcher and will examine her own personal experience, to date, of being part of a postgraduate research programme in order to clarify how we might best ensure that the next generation of researchers can contribute to the strategy which is being developed. The paper reviews the author's experience of research training to test its adequacy in preparing the next generation to meet the demands required and in consideration of current professional develop ments around social work and social care. The paper will also consider who will be the members of this next generation and how the future agenda for the profession might potentially contribute to the development of a sound professional knowledge base and also influence the wider social science debate. The conclusions of this paper will draw together a number of key issues that have been highlighted so far and give a perspective on these which links values, knowledge and skills in ways which might usefully promote further debate and constructive resolution.     

Case Management for Community Practice

This article concerns an approach to supervision for statutory youth casework. The model involves caseworkers recording a video of their meetings with their clients and sending it to an external supervisor. The supervisor selects video clips. They then hold an online meeting where they review the clips, and the supervisor gives feedback based on a standardized model. The caseworker then uses the feedback in their future practice and the cycle is repeated. 16 statutory youth caseworkers and 6 supervisors from three municipalities in Denmark participated in semi-structured interviews regarding their experiences with the video supervision and feedback model. The interviews focused on facilitating and inhibiting factors with regard to the use of the model. A thematic analysis was conducted. Communication regarding the law, giving clients space to find their voice, and paying heed to how each relationship was progressing were emphasized as central focus points. Advice had to be concrete and achievable and come from supervisors with statutory experience. Participants highlighted the significance of viewing practice directly via video footage. Film clips used for feedback needed to be short and well chosen. The technology, logistics and infrastructure, including management support, were important. Findings were used to develop the model.     

Building research capacity for social work practitioners: a regional perspective

This article explores the research experiences, interests and capacity of social work professionals working as frontline workers and managers in human service organizations in regional South Australia. It also draws attention to social work practice issues requiring further investigation as identified by these professionals. The research data for this paper were collected using quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitative data provided evidence to show the extent of research interests among social work practitioners in the region. Qualitative data added depth to the findings by identifying social work practice issues as described by research participants. The study revealed that few participants had any research experience; however, the majority felt the need to undertake research, expressed interest in research training and a desire to be involved in research projects. These findings have implications for higher education providers in the social work discipline. They draw attention to the importance of better preparing students for research in practice, and also for schools of social work to actively engage in building research capacity and output in regional Australia.

Readers' response: The place of social work in the Contemporary University: Meeting the challenges of the profession and the Academy

Abstract

The pressure to attract funds and produce research, to spend more time on scholarship rather than on teaching and practice links challenges the nature of social work education. This paper outlines the impact of both funding cuts and the managerial and business culture of contemporary Australian Universities on the teaching of social work. It addresses social work practitioners concerns' about these changes, and outlines attempts made by social work schools to respond to these challenges.     

CCTV青年歌手电视大奖赛回顾与反思

“全球化”是当今人类社会发展的总趋势,无论是经济、政治、军事、文化、艺术领域,都受它现实性的强势文化渗透。受其影响,我国文化艺术实践活动正面临诸多困境,而“改革开放”是中国文化多样化发展时期,呈现文化艺术繁荣与发展态势,在此背景下,中央电视台创办了“本土原创”的“CCTV青年歌手电视大奖赛”（以下简称“青歌赛”）,引领、彰显主流文化近30年,取得了显著成绩,坚守了国家文化的阵地,对人们文化价值观念、社会信仰体系起到了稳定与增强作用,对于促进我国音乐事业发展、培养人才、提高民众音乐爱好与素养等方面亦起到了积极作用。     

城市化视域下的农村文化扶贫

从城市化视角出发,对农村文化扶贫工作进行了具体分析,认为农村文化扶贫工作应注重价值观念、思维方式、文化习俗等深层次的文化扶贫.新的经济形态要求要有新的文化形态,因此,农村文化扶贫工作应积极引入与市场经济相适应的文化因子;要充分发挥农民工和乡村文化精英等意见领袖的作用,实现贫困地区的文化变迁;要承古求新,寻求传统农耕文化与现代化的契合点,注重乡村文化重构中的保护和创新,避免现代化进程中“城市病”的发生.     

探析高校管理干部队伍目前存在的问题与对策*

我国高校管理干部队伍在一些问题上存在不足,主要表现在对管理工作重视不足、管理干部专业化水平低,管理缺乏依据、权责不清、管理工作社会认可度低。在人才培养及管理制度建设两个层次上结合我国的社会实际提出从明确管理干部职业晋升渠道、设立专业培训体系、建立量化考核评价等提出相应对策。     

连云港市创业培训模式的探索与实践

通过对连云港市创业培训现状的分析,探讨了连云港市创业培训方面存在的问题,并从设置指导服务机构、完善配套政策、加强师资队伍建设、做好后续服务、提高培训效果、加强监督评估、加大宣传力度、扩大培训范围等8个方面提出了对连云港市创业培训模式构建的对策。
