An Evaluation of Simulations in Developmental Disabilities (SIDD): Instructional Software that Provides Practice in Behavioral Assessment and Treatment Decisions

ABSTRACT

Simulations in Developmental Disabilities (SIDD) is a multimedia computer program designed to provide undergraduate psychology students with practice in making assessment and treatment decisions. Eighteen undergraduate psychology students participated in an experiment to test the instructional effectiveness of SIDD. Post-test scores were significantly higher in the experimental group who received training with SIDD than in a control group who did not receive training. The students also rated the software positively. Future strategies to further evaluate the software are discussed.

SUMMARY

This article describes a multimedia 9-module training program which uses text, graphics, animation, narration, and video as well as a planned approach to the use of color, pace, tone, setting, and instructional activities to achieve its goal of orienting new workers to the complexity of a public social service agency.     

关于对第二轮本科教学评估及分类指导的几点意见

第一轮教学评估存在一些问题如何解决；第二轮教学评估怎样进行；今后评估的发展趋势；分类指导的具体划分思路及处理好教学评估与其它各项评估的关系等。这是本科教学评估当前必须认真思考和解决的主要问题。本文针对上述问题，提出了一些意见和建议。     

Prevention of child abuse and neglect and improvements in child development

The aim of the study was to evaluate the implementation of a section in the Danish Social Assistance Act which encourages local authorities to offer families services in order to support children at risk of child maltreatment. The specific purpose of the present paper is to answer the question: Will the socio‐psychological development of children known to social services be improved when abuse and neglect are reduced? A sample of 1,138 children was drawn at random from new social services cases starting in 1998. Subsequently, about 80 per cent were evaluated by local caseworkers on the basis of a standardised questionnaire covering a period of four years. The most damaging family conditions seemed to be psychological maltreatment, physical/sexual abuse and neglect. Maltreated children were more often in a depressed state, unhappy, socially isolated, or they had an eating disorder, inadequate or under‐nutrition, suicidal tendencies, lack of concentration, or disturbed behaviour, compared to those children who were not exposed to abuse and neglect. If parental behaviour improved, effects on children's well‐being were also observed and positive changes in children's socio‐psychological development were identified. The questionnaire explored the impact of various interventions, including services geared to strengthen the child's network, but results indicated that the child displayed reduced risk of reactive symptoms only when parental behaviour improved and abuse and neglect were reduced. 聚类分析法在高职院校订单式培养学生综合素质评价中的应用

订单式”人才培养模式的建立为高职教育教学改革注入了新的活力。但是，由高职院校因为缺乏有效的培养过程控制与竞争机制，也出现了影响该模式的良性循环和可持续发展的诸多问题。鉴于此，应尽快完善“订单式”人才培养模式中的过程控制与考核机制，建立一套科学、完备的考核指标体系是当务之急。对于订单式培养学生的综合素质评估结果，可以通过相关聚类分析方法，对订单班学生综合素质评估结果进行科学合理的分类，建立完善订单班学生能进能出、滚动淘汰的动态管理模式，达到订单式培养不仅“定数量”，更注重“定质量”的理想状态。     

既有铁路钢桁梁桥运营性能的检测与评价

阐述既有铁路桥梁评价的内容和标准，针对评价标准提出了相应的检测方法。在朔黄铁路64 m栓焊下承式钢桁梁双线铁路桥的应用实践证明，该评价标准和检测方法对既有铁路钢桁梁桥运营性能的评价是合理的。     

Evaluation of Research Ethics Committees: Criteria for the Ethical Quality of the Review Process

Repeatedly, adequacy, performance and quality of Ethics Committees that oversee medical research trials are being discussed. Although they play a crucial role in reviewing medical research and protecting human subjects, it is far from clear to what degree they fulfill the task they have been assigned to. This eventuates in the call for an evaluation of their activity and, in some places, led to the establishment of accreditation schemes. At the same time, IRBs have become subject of detailed legislation in the process of the ongoing global juridification of medical research. Unsurprisingly, there is a tendency to understand the evaluation of RECs as a question of controlling their legal compliance. This paper discusses the need for a quality evaluation of IRBs from an ethical point of view and, by systematically reviewing the major ethical guidelines for IRBs, proposes a system of criteria that should orientate any evaluation of IRBs.     

Implementing Web-Based Learning: Evaluation Results from a Mental Health Course

SUMMARY

This paper reports on the evaluation results of a web-enhanced mental health course. The instructional design of the course was based on the principles of constructivist and collaborative learning environments. Students strongly supported the use of web-based learning in this course and found that the online environment enhanced their learning. The benefits and disadvantages of web-based learning and the implications for future course development are discussed. Issues in implementing web-based learning in social work education are also identified.
