Does unemployment lead to isolation? The consequences of unemployment for social networks

Popular accounts in both social science and society claim that unemployment goes together with social withdrawal. However, empirical support for this conclusion is largely derived from cross-sectional studies or indirect measurements of social contacts. In this study, we argue that consequences of unemployment for personal networks differ across social groups and by length of unemployment. Using longitudinal data from the Swiss Household Panel (1999–2010), we focus on three frequently employed social network statistics: network size, contact frequency, and perceived support by friends, family, neighbors, and acquaintances. We estimate how short (<1 year) and long term (>1 year) unemployment relates to these network characteristics for men and women, people below and above 50 years of age, and lower and higher educated individuals. Our results provide a more-nuanced perspective on the commonly assumed social withdrawal following unemployment.

口耳相传的口头传统构成了羌族传统文化的主体内容,其特征表现在内容的丰富性、内部文化的差异性、传承形态的宗教性、文化影响的多元性等方面。这些特征既是羌族民众基于深厚的历史传统中传承生成的,也是在与多元文化互动共融中不断进行合理性改造中达成的。传承中的再造构成了羌族口头传统生成与发展的内在动力。     

High‐frequency family contact: a road to nowhere for infants

Understanding the practices which support the best interests of infants when placed in out‐of‐home care in the first year of life is a significant challenge. A study based in Victoria, Australia, explored the practice by the Children's Court of ordering high‐frequency contact (4–7 days a week) with the infant's mother and father when they are placed in care in the first year of life. A literature review revealed little attention to the issue of frequency of family contact for infants. An audit of case files of all infants in care in mid‐2007 showed that at 1 year follow‐up, there was no difference in the reunification rate for children with a period of high‐frequency contact and those with less contact with their mothers and fathers. Focus groups revealed deep divisions of opinion about high‐frequency family contact which are played out in the adversarial Children's Court system in Victoria. The study highlights the complexity of understanding and supporting the attachment relationships at this critical period in the infant's life.     

浅谈人体解剖学课堂设计

清末奉天万国鼠疫研究会考论

奉天万国鼠疫研究会是在清政府应对1910年末到1911年初东北三省鼠疫过程中,认识到亟须向国外学习先进的防控经验的前提下召开的。会议由中国倡议并主办,共有来自12个国家的34位正式代表参加。从1911年4月3日（三月初五日）至4月28日（三月三十日）在奉天（今沈阳）召开,其间共举行大会24次,形成决议45项,确定了许多国际通行的防疫准则,为此后的国际防疫合作奠定了基础;同时,这次国际会议也大大推动了中国近代公共防疫事业的发展。奉天万国鼠疫研究会是由清政府主办的中国近代史上第一次国际学术会议。
