Conducting social science research is a complex process, and social science students face a number of learning challenges in order to develop their skills. Moreover, new sources and types of data including so-called big data are providing new opportunities for research, but also pose methodological challenges. In this article, we explore a task-based learning approach for teaching social science research methods. We draw on evidence from two case study learning tasks: (i) the collection and analysis of Twitter data; and (ii) designing and conducting a face-to-face and online survey. The students were guided to co-lead the tasks, apply their knowledge and then to critically reflect. The pedagogical framework of task-based learning provides opportunities to embed learning in new ways by integrating knowledge, practice and critical reflection. Task-based learning can create a dynamic learning environment and can empower students to develop their identities as researchers. 相似文献

Efforts to explain why some people incorporate ethical concerns into everyday shopping for food and household goods, while many do not, have so far left significant variation in “ethical consumption” unexplained. Seeking to move beyond explanations that rely mainly on differences in consumers' social class, gender, and political engagement, I draw on concepts associated with “practice theory” to argue that ethical consumption is closely tied to people's willingness and ability to spend time, while shopping, on distinct activities associated with breaking old routines and establishing new ones. The central insight of practice theory is that most consumption is the product of unconscious routine. And it is precisely because consciously departing from routine is, according to my study, a fundamentally time‐consuming process, that lack of time emerges as a crucial obstacle to translating abstract ethical concerns into concrete action as a consumer. 相似文献

“非遗”传承人名录制度是我国“非遗”保护的重要手段之一,它在“非遗”保护中发挥了巨大作用,但也存在着不同程度的问题。国家级传承人数量偏少且分布不平衡,传承人的年龄与性别结构也不合理。传承人认定制度的不完善使一些民间艺人无法进入各级名录,传承人名录的分级制度导致传承人被人为阶层化,引发了民间艺人与传承人以及不同级别传承人之间的矛盾,造成一些集体项目无法正常开展活动,传承人的保护工作难以得到群众的有力支持。 相似文献

This paper seeks to understand key dimensions of reflection in experience-based workplace learning for research being collaboratively undertaken by scholars in Dutch and US research institutions. We systematically explore and compare Tara Fenwick’s analysis of five perspectives on cognition to distinguish among constructivist, psychoanalytic, situative, critical-cultural, and enactivist perspectives on reflection. Our aim is to examine how to conceptualize reflection so that one or more perspectives can complement our understanding of learning through experience at work. We position reflection not only from a practical but also from a theoretical perspective that moves beyond the individual focus of the constructivist perspective. Fenwick’s five perspectives are described in terms of whether and how reflection is utilized, key activities in the process of reflection, relative focus on the individual and/or the context, triggers for reflection, role of power and positionality, role of emotions, and reflection outcomes. We conclude that adding other lenses to the dominant constructivist perspective helps expand our understanding of reflection as well as identify and attend to other tools, people, and factors in the work situation that influence reflection processes and learning outcomes. In this paper we consider a semiparametric regression model involving a d-dimensional quantitative explanatory variable X and including a dimension reduction of X via an index β′X. In this model, the main goal is to estimate the Euclidean parameter β and to predict the real response variable Y conditionally to X. Our approach is based on sliced inverse regression (SIR) method and optimal quantization in Lp-norm. We obtain the convergence of the proposed estimators of β and of the conditional distribution.
