Effectively Evaluating the Accessibility of Electronic Monographs Using VPATs and Other Resources at the College of Staten Island Library- CUNY

Abstract

This study, building upon previous research work at the College of Staten Island (CSI) library, attempts to evaluate the accessibility of select digital monograph platforms and file formats utilized at the City University of New York (CUNY). The usability of CSI library’s locally developed ER-ACT tool to assist librarians with limited technical knowledge to review VPATs and to perform simple testing was also evaluated with challenges and successes reported. It was determined that the use of color-coded results in this study can help identify serious accessibility issues within ebooks and to communicate the results within libraries to assist with collection development decision-making. The study also includes a review of new court rulings related to accessibility issues in higher education and discusses where accessibility staffing reports in terms of job roles and duties held by university professionals. The testing of the accessibility of library ebooks, with various accessibility tools, are reviewed within the context of Section 508 revisions and new VPAT standards.     

Textbook Affordability in the Time of COVID-19

Abstract

This article provides a background of the textbook affordability problem affecting students attending United States higher education institutions, both prior to and during the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, as well as potential solutions to the problem. Solutions discussed include the availability of open materials in online repositories, publisher responses like inclusive access, institutional incentive programs, and initiatives by library consortia or other statewide programs. The responses of various stakeholders to make textbooks accessible to students during the pandemic are also covered.     

国家级新区义务教育资源供需矛盾及消解路径——基于N市J区12345政务热线数据分析

成立国家级新区对迅速改善欠发达地区经济环境、改变落后的民生状态进而促进城市区域发展具有重要意义。国家级新区应努力推动社会公共服务体系与产业发展体系协同共进。义务教育资源是社会公共服务体系的重要组成部分，不容忽视。国家级新区在初创的关键时期需要打好义务教育资源均衡分配的基础，为后续义务教育资源的优化升级提供坚实保障。本文以N市J区为例，通过对12345政务热线服务平台的数据分析和对关键人物的访谈，探讨国家级新区初创期义务教育资源需求特征，同时发现实际存在着义务教育资源供不应求、供需脱节、配置失衡、提质升级乏力等供需矛盾，并依据新区初创阶段的实际需求，从制定规划、资金支持、供需互动、创新升级等方面进一步探讨国家级新区义务教育资源供需矛盾的消解路径。     

旅游发展对女性角色变迁的影响研究--以大理周城白族女性为例

女性参与旅游发展是目的地获得可持续发展的重要前提。缺乏旅游发展对女性角色变迁影响的分析，仅将女性参与作为一个必然的过程而不是文化、经济和政治的过程，是女性参与旅游发展在实践中不能获得真正进步的原因。通过对国内外旅游研究中旅游发展对女性角色变迁的影响研究成果进行介绍，以云南大理周城为例，通过田野调查结果的抽样分析，剖析了周城近21年的旅游发展对周城白族妇女角色变迁影响的主要表现、女性角色变迁对大理周城旅游发展的积极意义和消极影响，提出在金融信贷和旅游发展项目中应充分考虑女性的需要，重视社会性别意识，积极改善女性参政议政环境，加强少数民族女性人力资本投资，以互联网为途径整合线上线下营销渠道，提高女性的文化营销能力。     

一个“成功"游牧民定居工程背后的资源困境

游牧民定居工程被视为改变牧区靠天养牧、加速牧区现代化和城镇化的重要举措而广泛实施。 游牧民定居工程迅速且深刻地改变着草原牧区的自然、社会及经济形态,同时也改变了人与自然资源之间的互动关系及作用时空尺度。 在“成功冶的定居点,牧民生活水平大幅提高,且对天然草场的利用减少;但是,对比相邻的村庄发现,其“成功冶的关键在于有足够的外部资源输入,包括草场、农田和地下水等。 而从区域的生态环境来看,这种“成功冶模式并不符合当地干旱地区的生态特征,有可能造成更大范围内的生态破坏。 因此,游牧民定居工程应该从区域生态特征出发,对类似“成功冶模板的推广更加谨慎。     

Miaoicization vis-à-vis sinicization: contrasting Miao subgroups in contemporary China

This article studies the Miao classification as an example to examine the minzu shibie project initiated by the Chinese Communist Party after 1949. The Miao classification that originates with the minzu shibie project can be defined as a process of miaoicization; however, it is not a unified Miao group (as projected by the classification team) that has emerged but rather one dominant Miao subgroup that defines the official Miao category in contemporary China. At the moment the most dominant Miao subgroup is the Hmu group in Southeast Guizhou. The overemphasis of Hmu sub-culture to represent all the Miao of China is related to the fact that over the last decades many important leaders in Guizhou have been Hmu. While all Hmu are sinicized to a certain extent, it seems that the Hmu at the bottom of the socioeconomic scale are most likely to be sinicized and to amalgamate with the Han majority.     

混合式教学情境下生成性资源的进化与促进策略

随着教育信息化的发展，网络教学与传统课堂教学优势互补的混合式教学模式被广泛应用，混合式教学将成为未来教学的主要方式。由于混合式教学情境既不同于传统课堂教学，又与在线教学有所区别，因此生成性资源在混合式教学情境中的进化方式也呈现出新的特点。通过分析、对比传统课堂教学情境与在线教学情境生成性资源的特点，归纳总结出混合式教学情境下生成性资源的特征，并根据混合式教学活动的实施过程，构建出生成性资源的进化模型，进而提出生成性资源进化的促进策略。     

Is it worth it? Linking perceived high-performance work systems and emotional exhaustion: The mediating role of job demands and job resources

The present study utilizes the job demands–resources model and examines the effects of employees’ perceptions of high-performance work systems (HPWS) on emotional exhaustion. For the needs of this study, structural equation modeling (SEM) was used on a sample of 343 frontline employees in a Greek manufacturing company. The findings do not support the critical arguments regarding HPWS, which suggest that these systems lead to work intensification and emotional exhaustion through increased job demands. In contrast, HPWS was positively related to job resources, although no support was found for a direct and negative relationship with emotional exhaustion. Last but not least, this study calculates HPWS as both a system and bundles of practices and provides useful insights regarding the differences between the two different measurement methods. Finally, theoretical and managerial implications are drawn for improving our understanding of how HPWS influences job demands and resources and employees’ emotional exhaustion.     

我国冰雪体育旅游现状及发展策略探究

随着北京-张家界申办2022年冬季奥运会的成功，冰雪体育旅游迅速成为了当今最受关注的热门产业之一。如果能抓住这次发展机遇，大力开展冰雪体育旅游项目，可以为当地旅游业的发展创造极大的收益，与此同时还能提升我国冰雪体育旅游层次。通过阐述我国冰雪体育旅游的发现现状，对其中存在的问题和面临的挑战进行分析，结合实际情况提出冰雪体育旅游的发展对策。     

大运河旅游资源现状及开发策略的思考--以扬州市为例

立足于运河申遗成功，分析了大运河沿线城市独特的旅游资源，探讨了开发运河旅游的市场前景。结合江苏扬州市开发运河旅游资源实际，提出了开创新型运河旅游产品、建设世界运河博物馆、塑造运河主题节庆品牌、培养新型专业导游等大运河旅游开发的策略。
