Estimation under generalized sampling of cell proportions for contingency tables subject to marginal constraints

Under simple random (multinomial) sampling the problem of estimating cell proportions for a contingency table subject to marginal constraints has been well explored. We briefly review methods that have been considered; then we develop a general method, for more complicated sampling, which reflects the variance structure of the estimated cell proportions. For stratified and cluster sampling we compare our method against earlier methods for the 2×2 table and find it potentially advantageous.     

Stein-type estimation using ranked set sampling

In this study, we consider the application of the James–Stein estimator for population means from a class of arbitrary populations based on ranked set sample (RSS). We consider a basis for optimally combining sample information from several data sources. We succinctly develop the asymptotic theory of simultaneous estimation of several means for differing replications based on the well-defined shrinkage principle. We showcase that a shrinkage-type estimator will have, under quadratic loss, a substantial risk reduction relative to the classical estimator based on simple random sample and RSS. Asymptotic distributional quadratic biases and risks of the shrinkage estimators are derived and compared with those of the classical estimator. A simulation study is used to support the asymptotic result. An over-riding theme of this study is that the shrinkage estimation method provides a powerful extension of its traditional counterpart for non-normal populations. Finally, we will use a real data set to illustrate the computation of the proposed estimators.

Laplace Approximations for Natural Exponential Families with Cuts

Standard and fully exponential form Laplace approximations to marginal densities are described and conditions under which these give exact answers are investigated. A general result is obtained and is subsequently applied in the case of natural exponential families with cuts, in order to derive the marginal posterior density of the mean parameter corresponding to the cut, the canonical parameter corresponding to the complement of the cut and transformations of these. Important cases of families for which a cut exists and the approximations are exact are presented as examples     

A Simple Adaptive Procedure Leading to Correlated Equilibrium

We propose a new and simple adaptive procedure for playing a game: ‘regret‐matching.’ In this procedure, players may depart from their current play with probabilities that are proportional to measures of regret for not having used other strategies in the past. It is shown that our adaptive procedure guarantees that, with probability one, the empirical distributions of play converge to the set of correlated equilibria of the game.

An optimal k of kth MA-ARIMA models under a class of ARIMA model

In this article, we discuss finding the optimal k of (i) kth simple moving average, (ii) kth weighted moving average, and (iii) kth exponential weighted moving average based on simulated ARIMA(p, d, q) model. We run a simulation using the three above examining methods under specific conditions. The main finding is that 5th exponential weighted moving average (5th EWMA) ARIMA model is the best forecasting model among others, which means the optimal k = 5. For Turkish Telecommunications (TTKOM) stock market, real data reveal the similar results of simulation study.
