An L1-type estimator of multivariate location and shape

The main goal of the paper is to specify a suitable multivariate multilevel model for polytomous responses with a non-ignorable missing data mechanism in order to determine the factors which influence the way of acquisition of the skills of the graduates and to evaluate the degree programmes on the basis of the adequacy of the skills they give to their graduates. The application is based on data gathered by a telephone survey conducted, about two years after the degree, on the graduates of year 2000 of the University of Florence. A multilevel multinomial logit model for the response of interest is fitted simultaneously with a multilevel logit model for the selection mechanism by means of maximum likelihood with adaptive Gaussian quadrature. In the application the multilevel structure has a crucial role, while selection bias results negligible. The analysis of the empirical Bayes residuals allows to detect some extreme degree programmes to be further inspected.

产学研合作是高校服务社会、谋求自身发展的重要途径之一,也是专业建设和实践教学的有效载体。结合电气专业实践教学基地建设实际和实践教学方法的运用,我们感到,产学研合作能够帮助企业和高校实现双赢,关键是找到双方合作的切入点,一方面把高校的实践教学环节落实到厂家的生产中去,另一方面要完成实践教学任务,实现良性循环。

Biased sampling with right censoring: A note on sun,Cui & Tiwari (2002)

Sun, Cui & Tiwari (2002) studied the asymptotic behaviour of certain goodness‐of‐fit tests in the presence of biased sampling and right censoring. The author illustrates that unfortunately, an assumption made by Sun, Cui and Tiwari on the independence between failure and censoring time fails to hold in many important applications, which limits the applicability of their results.

Pitfalls in Drawing Policy Conclusions from Retrospective Survey Data: The Case of Advertising and Underage Smoking

Measuring the impact of potentially controllable factors on the willingness of youth to undertake health risks is important to informed public health policy decisions. Typically the only data linking these factors with risk-taking behavior are retrospective. This study demonstrates, by means of a recent example, that there can be serious pitfalls in using even longitudinal retrospective data to draw conclusions about causal relations between potentially controllable factors and risk-taking behavior.     

论大学英语教学的三维性

我国大学英语教学主要是课堂教学 ,英语教学的成功与否主要取决于日常教学这一环节。英语课堂的三维教学是教学的主要活动 ,它包括英语知识的传授、学生语言运用能力的培养 ,以及在二者进行过程中所施行的心理实践活动。本文根据笔者十几年的大学英语教学经验 ,就其二者的意义、目标及相互关系做一初步探讨。
