Genetic programming as a means for programming computers by natural selection

Many seemingly different problems in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and symbolic processing can be viewed as requiring the discovery of a computer program that produces some desired output for particular inputs. When viewed in this way, the process of solving these problems becomes equivalent to searching a space of possible computer programs for a highly fit individual computer program. The recently developed genetic programming paradigm described herein provides a way to search the space of possible computer programs for a highly fit individual computer program to solve (or approximately solve) a surprising variety of different problems from different fields. In genetic programming, populations of computer programs are genetically bred using the Darwinian principle of survival of the fittest and using a genetic crossover (sexual recombination) operator appropriate for genetically mating computer programs. Genetic programming is illustrated via an example of machine learning of the Boolean 11-multiplexer function and symbolic regression of the econometric exchange equation from noisy empirical data.Hierarchical automatic function definition enables genetic programming to define potentially useful functions automatically and dynamically during a run, much as a human programmer writing a complex computer program creates subroutines (procedures, functions) to perform groups of steps which must be performed with different instantiations of the dummy variables (formal parameters) in more than one place in the main program. Hierarchical automatic function definition is illustrated via the machine learning of the Boolean 11-parity function.

我国创业教育政策的价值结构探析——基于政策文本分析的视角

创业教育政策是在特定的价值观和价值标准主导下形成的,这种特定的价值观和价值标准将对其实施效果产生重要影响。通过对相关文献梳理发现,国内对教育政策价值结构的主流观点是从实体价值和符号价值两方面对政策文本进行实证分析。实体价值包括经济、权力、知识、技术、福利,符号价值包括专有称谓、名誉、意识形态、规划目标。以此为基础,对2001年来国务院以及中央各部委颁布的一系列创业教育政策文本进行分析,并从实体价值和符号价值两方面揭示了中国创业教育政策价值结构。在实体价值中,对知识、经济、权力和技术价值的关注较多;在符号价值中,对规划目标关注最多;政府对创业教育政策的实体价值关注度远远高于符号价值;不同阶段的创业教育政策价值呈现出不同的结构特征。最后提出对策建议:适度保持或强化政策实体价值,发挥政府主管部门的行政推动和保障作用;适当加强对符号价值的关注,促进创业教育政策的专业化发展;加强创业教育课程建设,培育创业教育师资;鼓励利益相关者参与创业教育,建立适合创业教育发展需求的支持体系;在不同层次,不同类型教育中开展创业教育,并建立各种教育有机衔接的创业教育体系。     

Symbolic correlation integral

This paper aims to introduce the concept of symbolic correlation integral SC that is extensively used in many scientific fields. The new correlation integral SC avoids the noisy parameter 𝜀 of the classical correlation integral, defined by Grassberger and Procaccia (1983 Grassberger, P., Procaccia, I. (1983). Measuring the strangeness of strange attractors. Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena 9(1–2):189–208.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] , [Google Scholar]) and extensively used for constructing correlation-integral-based statistics, as in the BDS test. Once the free parameter 𝜀 disappears, it is possible to construct a nonparametric powerful test for independence that can also be used as a diagnostic tool for model selection. The symbolic correlation integral is also extended to deal with multivariate models, and a test for causality is proposed as an example of the theoretical power of the new concept. With extensive Monte Carlo simulations, the paper shows the good size and power performance of symbolic correlation-integral-based tests.     

Couple-Level Patterns of Disclosure Process Beliefs and Their Association with Marital Satisfaction

Abstract

Grounded in symbolic interaction theory, we used latent class analysis (LCA) to investigate the preexisting patterns of belief surrounding the disclosure process in married relationships. With a sample of 131 heterosexual married dyads from the U.S., we found four classes: two classes represented similarity of spouses’ beliefs (Both High Beliefs and Neither High Beliefs), and two classes represented dissimilarity of spouses’ beliefs (where only the wife endorsed high beliefs, Wife High Beliefs, and where only the husband did, Husband High Beliefs). Husbands’ satisfaction was positively associated with membership in the Both High Beliefs class. An interaction between spouses’ satisfaction was found: the impact of wives’ satisfaction on class membership is dependent on husbands’ satisfaction. Implications for research and practice are discussed.

传统小吃企业“互联网+”转型实践研究——符号资本在转型过程中的作用分析

“互联网+”时代,传统小吃行业蕴藏着巨大的市场潜力。如何解决传统小吃行业暴露的问题,充分利用行业和互联网的优势,是传统小吃企业“互联网+”转型实践中需要面对的核心问题。文章基于布迪厄的资本理论,以广西某著名的传统小吃品牌为研究对象,通过分析传统小吃企业“互联网+”转型过程中经济资本、社会资本、文化资本向符号资本的转换过程与作用机制,提出转型的具体实践路径。从符号资本视角研究“互联网+”转型,是对传统信息技术升级视角的有益补充,不但拓展了现有研究的理论视野,也有助于带动传统行业实现全面转型升级。
