The significance of coaching to the identity development of managers The author discusses the difficulties of managers to conceive their professional identity. Regarding the background of modern organization structures in ?our postmodern times“, they are demanded to define their roles again and again by themselves. Traditional concepts of identity, like those formulated by the psychoanalysis, nowadays are obsolete. The approaches of the symbolic interactionism are much more applying to the actual demands of ?identity work“ of managers. Coaching, that integrates procedures of dramatherapy, is thereby capable to support the development of a suitable management identity.

As a consequence, problems may be localised more easily, hypotheses are raised and plans put into action. This sets off processes of change among all those supervised. Everyone picks out the creativity impulses significant for himself from the case historics for his own work as new intervention possibilitics. Therefore, over-focussing and paralysis are avoided and/or already existing ones corrected. Group supervision thus enables full use of spontaneity and creativity potential for everyone. It prevents burn-out just as much as indicating development of professional identity for the carers.

The Effect of Estimation of Unknown Degrees of Freedom on Estimation of Remaining Parameters in Spanos’ Conditional t Heteroskedastic Model

This article investigates the effect of estimation of unknown degrees of freedom on efficient estimation of remaining parameters in Spanos’ conditional t heteroskedastic model. We compare by simulation three maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the remaining parameters in the model: the MLE of the remaining parameters when all the parameters are estimated by the MLE, when the degrees of freedom is estimated by a method of moments estimator, and when the degrees of freedom is erroneously specified. The latter two methods are found to perform poorly compared to the former method for the inference of variance parameters in the model. Thus, efficient estimation of degrees of freedom by the MLE is important to estimate efficiently the remaining variance parameters.
