The problem of testing uniform association in cross-classifications having ordered categories is considered. Two families of test statistics, both based on divergences between certain functions of the observed data, are studied and compared. Our theoretical study is based on asymptotic properties. For each family, two consistent approximations to the null distribution of the test statistic are studied: the asymptotic null distribution and a bootstrap estimator; all the tests considered are consistent against fixed alternatives; finally, we do a local power study. Surprisingly, both families detect the same local alternatives. The finite sample performance of the tests in these two classes is numerically investigated through some simulation experiments. This paper proposes a simple and flexible count data regression model which is able to incorporate overdispersion (the variance is greater than the mean) and which can be considered a competitor to the Poisson model. As is well known, this classical model imposes the restriction that the conditional mean of each count variable must equal the conditional variance. Nevertheless, for the common case of well-dispersed counts the Poisson regression may not be appropriate, while the count regression model proposed here is potentially useful. We consider an application to model counts of medical care utilization by the elderly in the USA using a well-known data set from the National Medical Expenditure Survey (1987), where the dependent variable is the number of stays after hospital admission, and where 10 explanatory variables are analysed. 相似文献

An algorithm is presented for generating pseudorandom variates distributed uniformly over an arbitrary convex polytope in a Euclidean space of arbitrary dimension. Many commonly used methods for generating uniform variates require that the polytope be expressed as the solution set of a system of linear inequalities; the algorithm presented here requires instead that the polytope be presented in terms of a finite generating set, typically the set of its vertices. Two types of symmetry can arise when the proportions of mixture components are constrained by upper and lower bounds. These two types of symmetry are shown to be useful for blocking first-order designs, as well as for finding the centroid of the experimental region. Orthogonal blocking of first-order mixture designs provides a method of including process variables in the mixture experiment, with the mixture terms orthogonal to the process factors. Symmetric regions are used to develop spherical and rotatable response surface designs for mixtures. The central composite design and designs based on the icosahedron and the dodecahedron are given for four-component mixtures. Optimal statistical tests, using the normality assumptions for general interval hypotheses including equivalence testing and testing for nonzero difference (or for non-unit) are presented. These tests are based on the decision theory for Polya Type distributions and are compared with usual confidence tests and with ’two one-sided tests’- procedures. A formal relationship between some optimal tests and the Anderson and Hauck procedure as well as a procedure recommended by Patel and Gupta is given.
