Mobility and Nunavut Inuit youth: lessons from Northern Youth Abroad

In this paper we examine the impacts of the mobility that Nunavut Inuit youth experience with Northern Youth Abroad (NYA), a Canadian volunteer travel program that sends northern youth to southern Canada and Botswana. Using a case study approach and drawing from archival research and interviews with 10 former participants, a staff member, and a member of the board of directors, we argue that NYA illustrates how volunteer travel programs for Indigenous youth can yield distinct benefits for its participants in comparison to mainstream volunteer travel programs, particularly with regard to participants' sense of cultural identity and pride. By enabling participants to foster career goals and a deeper sense of cultural pride, NYA presents a counter-example to some of the common critiques of volunteer tourism programs, and illustrates the complex interconnections between cultural pride, well-being, and career advancement for Nunavut Inuit youth.     

“It's not all tied up with bureaucrats and funding”: Autonomous volunteer participation in the rural resettlement of refugees

This paper reports on a study that explored the experiences, perceptions and motivations of a new type of autonomous volunteer emerging in modern society, in particular, those working to assist in the rural resettlement of refugees in Australia. The volunteers filled a gap left by under resourced government and community services. In‐depth semi structured interviews revealed that their motivation was due in part, to the lack of bureaucratic' red tape'. Their drive to address social issues was based also in part on values to see social justice expressed in their community. Some challenges and tensions due to cultural differences were identified. Questions for community development and social capital are raised. Implications are raised for volunteer groups' and resettlement organisations' policy and practice to enhance the resettlement process for both the host community and those with a refugee background.     

城市老旧小区综合治理问题与对策的实证研究

为解决城市老旧小区在提升改造、居民自治、网格化管理、卫生环境治理和项目化服务运作等方面存在的问题,以西安市碑林区为案例,通过问卷调查、实地走访及对比国内外同类城市老旧小区治理等方法,对老旧小区综合治理问题进行了系统研究。研究认为,老旧小区房屋建筑与基础设施老化现象严重,乱搭乱建、脏乱差现象不同程度地存在;社会组织、市场力量、小区居民和社会志愿者等主体参与不足,现代物业管理服务严重缺乏,多元主体参与老旧小区工作的治理格局尚未形成;社会各界对老旧小区治理的民生意义与公益性定位还不明确,导致政府政策指导相对滞后,硬件提升改造与软环境治理方面的财政资金投入不足,人文关怀相对缺乏等。研究认为,老旧小区的综合治理应以公共服务理论和以人为本理论为支撑,以居民需求为出发点,以多元主体参与共治为着力点,以提高认识站位、完善支持性政策、加大资金投入、健全管理体系与工作机制为重要抓手,提升老旧小区的综合治理水平。     

Distributive Justice for Volunteers

Volunteer organizations continue to suffer from turnover; the current volunteer rate is the lowest since 2002. Distributive justice, satisfaction, and extrinsic outcome importance were examined as influences of volunteer intention to quit. Survey results from 294 volunteers revealed that those who perceived less than fair distribution of extrinsic outcomes experienced heightened intention to quit compared to those who perceived fair distribution. Overall satisfaction partially mediated this relationship. We explored the potential moderating role of volunteers’ assessment of the importance of extrinsic outcomes on the overall mediated relationship.     

Transformational Leadership and Volunteer Firefighter Engagement

This study explores the relationship between transformational leadership and volunteer firefighter engagement. Using responses from 213 volunteer firefighters, structural equation modeling reveals a positive relationship between transformational leadership and volunteer engagement, which is mediated by both group identification and perceived social impact. In addition, higher volunteer engagement is positively related to a firefighter's intention to continue volunteering and to recruit others. Taken together, the results indicate that transformational leaders achieve positive volunteer outcomes by strengthening the organizational ties of volunteers and by connecting volunteers with the prosocial impact of their work. Theoretical implications for transformational leadership research in volunteer settings as well as practical recommendations for a sustainable volunteer management are provided.     

构建志愿者服务应急救援体系面临的问题及对策——抗震救灾中志愿者服务引发的思考

随着危机事件的频繁发生,如何应对公共危机事件成为政府面临的一个重大问题。在公共危机治理过程中,单靠政府的力量是不够的,志愿者组织自身的特征使其在处理公共危机的过程中具有先天的优势,构建志愿者应急救援体系具有十分重要的现实意义。然而,目前我国的志愿者组织在参与危机管理过程中存在着缺乏法律保障机制、救援的经费缺乏保障、志愿者欠缺专业特长和缺乏理性精神等严重不足,应对突发性事件时难以发挥出应有的效能。因此,应当正视不足,通过政府引导、社会支持以及志愿者组织自身能力建设等方面的配套机制,以保证志愿者组织的作用得以充分发挥,确保危机的顺利解决。     

论雷锋精神内涵及实践方式的现代转向

改革开放以来,我国面临的政治社会任务和社会实践环境与过去已有很大的不同,要求我们必须实现雷锋精神内涵及实践方式的现代转向,着力提倡和弘扬雷锋精神蕴含的公民精神、创新精神、自主精神、团结精神,从强烈的阶级情感转向普遍的对全体社会成员乃至全人类的人文关怀,从计划经济年代的服从意识和臣民人格转向市场经济条件下的独立意识和公民人格。同时,由随机的临时的救助转向正规的社会工作救助,由分散的个人行为转向有组织的团体行为,发起各类志愿者行动,救助庞大的弱势群体,应对老龄社会提出的巨大挑战。     

大学生志愿服务调查：以山东大学为例

提高大学生群体参与志愿活动的能力和水平,使其在和谐社会的建设中发挥更大的作用．是我国新时期社会主义建设的一个重要内容。为全面了解大学生志愿服务的现状和发展态势,以济南市山东大学的学生志愿服务为例,着重对大学生志愿服务的参与情况,大学生参与志愿服务的动机,大学生志愿服务过程中存在的特点、问题及相应的对策以及大学生对志愿服务的认知情况进行探讨。     

大学生志愿者的心理成长——对15名大学生志愿者的深度访谈分析

本文通过对长期从事志愿服务的15名大学生志愿者进行深度访谈,试图对志愿者在志愿活动中获得的心理成长做一个探索性的研究。结果发现,通过参与志愿服务,志愿者在个体心理、群体心理以及民族心理方面均获得了成长。在此基础上,进一步讨论了稳定志愿者队伍的策略。     

深化大学生志愿服务内涵延伸思想政治教育工作手臂

青年志愿者行动从无到有、从小到大,志愿服务的领域不断扩展,队伍不断壮大。在新的形势下,应创新大学生志愿服务活动的动力机制、组织机制和保障机制,建立具有“校园特色”的志愿服务工作体制,让志愿服务与大学生成长成才联姻。
