Monitoring the production of a supply chain with a revisited MRP approach

This paper examines the centralised monitoring of an upstream supply chain (USC) in the context of a mass customisation production system. We propose an adaptation of the material requirement planning framework to manage demand uncertainty at each stage of the USC. New analytical relations that exploit structural information on demand beyond the frozen horizon are developed for efficient decision-making and appropriate information sharing among the productive supply chain units. A numerical example to illustrate the implementation of the new analytical relations is provided, and a synthesis of benchmarks performed in the automotive industry is presented.     

Extended tables for moments of gamma distribution order statistics

Apart from having intrinsic mathematical interest, order statistics are also useful in the solution of many applied sampling and analysis problems. For a general review of the properties and uses of order statistics, see David (1981). This paper provides tabulations of means and variances of certain order statistics from the gamma distribution, for parameter values not previously available. The work was motivated by a particular quota sampling problem, for which existing tables are not adequate. The solution to this sampling problem actually requires the moments of the highest order statistic within a given set; however the calculation algorithm used involves a recurrence relation, which causes all the lower order statistics to be calculated first. Therefore we took the opportunity to develop more extensive tables for the gamma order statistic moments in general. Our tables provide values for the order statistic moments which were not available in previous tables, notably those for higher values of m, the gamma distribution shape parameter. However we have also retained the corresponding statistics for lower values of m, first to allow for checking accuracy of the computtions agtainst previous tables, and second to provide an integrated presentation of our new results with the previously known values in a consistent format     

Characterization of probability distributions through higher order gap

Weibull, Burr, Pareto and power function distributions have been characterized through the conditional moments of order statistics with higher gap and some of its important deductions are discussed.

中小学书法教育目标刍议

目前我国对于书法教育的意义、目标、方法、实践等缺乏清晰统一的理念，同时也因为师资力量的缺乏而使得很多学校的书法课有名无实，而书法教育中的名利思想也影响着教育者对书法艺术的理解与深入，这使得书法课程并没有能够充分发挥其作用。文章溯本求源，对“写字”与“书法”、“写字课”与“书法课”的关系进行反思，对于书法给人带来的心智的开启进行探讨，从而揭示中小学书法教育目标的真正所在。     

日语反向敬语研究综述

日语敬语的研究已经形成了相对完善的体系,但反向敬语的研究却非常少。从相关文献来看,日语反向敬语的研究还停留在词语、句型、功能、与其他语言的对比等方面,因此,今后不妨借鉴敬语、礼貌语研究的理论和方法,从理论体系、社会语言学、语料的建立、翻译等方面对其进行研究。     

Two-sample nonparametric stochastic order inference with an application in plant physiology

In this paper, a new nonparametric methodology is developed for testing whether the changing pattern of a response variable over multiple ordered sub-populations from one treatment group differs with the one from another treatment group. The question is formalized into a nonparametric two-sample comparison problem for the stochastic order among subsamples, through U-statistics with accommodations for zero-inflated distributions. A novel bootstrap procedure is proposed to obtain the critical values with given type I error. Following the procedure, bootstrapped p-values are obtained through simulated samples. It is proven that the distribution of the test statistics is independent from the underlying distributions of the subsamples, when certain sufficient statistics provided. Furthermore, this study also develops a feasible framework for power studies to determine sample sizes, which is necessary in real-world applications. Simulation results suggest that the test is consistent. The methodology is illustrated using a biological experiment with a split-plot design, and significant differences in changing patterns of seed weight between treatments are found with relative small subsample sizes.     

Reclothing the Emperor: The Swimming Pool as a Negotiated Order

This article examines the unspoken rules, routines, and rituals of the swimming pool, using ideas from negotiated order theory, Foucault, Goffman's dramaturgical theory, and symbolic interactionism. It identifies three sets of social norms: respect for personal space, respect for individuals' disciplinary regimes, and the desexualization of encounters. I show how these rules are (normally) followed or (occasionally) breached through various rituals, and examine the consequences for interaction order. The tale of “The Emperor's New Clothes” is used analogously to explain why actors cannot consciously attend to their precarious construction of reality, yet remain poised to defend it.
