本文从体育休闲的内涵及特点入手，对体育多元价值进行了分析，进而提出了体育休闲对构建和谐社会的重要作用。     

Not Just about Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: A Call for Military-Centric Social Work

Most warriors do not get PTSD but can still be affected by war. The “military gestalt,” defined as the complex myriad of “all things military” including the functions, processes, and human elements related to combat, is seriously impacted by the warrior-in-combat construct that is reflective of the person-in-environment construct. Thus, it suggests that problems within the gestalt can be understood and addressed from a military-centric social work perspective and approach. The situation is so insidious that it requires a call to action from all disciplines but, most important, for the social work profession to take the lead.     

Estimation of gaussian mixtures with rotationally invariant covariance matrices

Homoscedastic and heteroscedastic Gaussian mixtures differ in the constraints placed on the covariance matrices of the mixture components. A new mixture, called herein a strophoscedastic mixture, is defined by a new constraint, This constraint requires the matrices to be identical under orthogonal trans¬formations, where different transformations are allowed for different matrices. It is shown that the M-step of the EM method for estimating the parameters of strophoscedastic mixtures from sample data is explicitly solvable using singular value decompositions. Consequently, the EM-based maximum likelihood estimation algorithm is as easily implemented for strophoscedastic mixtures as it is for homoscedastic and heteroscedastic mixtures. An example of a “noisy” Archimedian spiral is presented.

价值澄清理论存在着一定的合理性,批判继承其合理方面对于高校思想政治理论课教学具有重要的意义。基于价值澄清的视角,强调社会主义核心价值体系的引领,实现思想政治理论课教学内容向实际生活的回归、注重学生内在道德冲突的激发,提高学生的道德判断与选择能力,加强课堂教育的行动性,以期增强高校思想政治理论课的教学实效性。     

Internet-Based Instruction as an Innovative Approach to Managing Prerequisite Curriculum Content in a Graduate Social Work Program

SUMMARY

Students admitted to graduate social work programs possess varying levels of understanding of prerequisite curriculum content. Compounding this situation is that social work educators teaching at the foundation level are now required to provide an expanded array of curriculum content in their courses. This article conceptualizes an Internet-Based orientation course as a unique tool for preparing students with prerequisite curriculum content necessary for successful integration and mastery of a graduate curriculum. Several steps are presented in the design and development of the course: obtaining support and approval, identifying and collecting data, designing and developing course components, and implementing and evaluating the course. Although course development occurs within a social work education setting, findings from this Internet-Based orientation course are applicable to other educational and human service settings.     

实用理性视阈中的价值共识

实用理性体现了中国传统文化的价值追求。它关注现实社会生活,具有把握整体而具体实用,能动活动而冷静理智的特征,造就了中国人独特的心理结构和思维方式。而马克思主义的根本特征是实践性,因此二者在某种程度上具有共通性。它们为社会主义和谐社会的构建提供理论支撑和现实可能性的确证,为解决在构建和谐社会的过程中碰到的各种问题提供思路和启示。     

农村社会生态理性的社会学研究

本文从理性视角构筑认识论框架,在此框架内对环境价值作出评估。在肯定理性多样化并存的前提下,把两个最具争议的理性——经济理性与生态理性并列齐观,以阐明二者在环境问题上的分歧,并从中揭示出中心价值对边陲价值的侵犯,并以政治形式将其合法化、正当化的过程。如何实现经济理性与生态理性的和解,宏观层面需要工业文明向生态文明的转变,微观层面需要从＂以人为中心＂的价值观向＂人与环境和谐共处＂的价值观转向,在这一转向过程中经济理性与生态理性相平衡的价值观教育是很有必要的。     

An Exploratory Study on Attitudes Toward Persons with Disabilities Among U.S. and Japanese Social Work Students

ABSTRACT

This exploratory study was conducted to understand and compare attitudes among social work students in the United States and Japan toward people with disabilities. The Modified Issues in Disabilities Scale (MIDS), designed to measure attitudes toward people with physical disabilities, was implemented on convenient samples of 92 U.S. and 73 Japanese social work students. The findings suggest that social work students in both countries hold moderately positive attitudes. Other similarities as well as differences among the sampled students from the two countries, and their implications to social work education, will be discussed in this paper.     

Computing the probability of hash table/urn overflow

We analyze the probability of a random distribution of n balls into m urns of size b resulting in no overflows. This solves the computational problem associated with a classical combinatorial extreme-value distribution. The problem arose during the analysis of a technique, called perfect hashing, for organizing data in computer files. The results and techniques presented can be used to solve several problems in the analysis of hashing techniques     

Social work and a love of humanity

Abstract

The idea of a ‘love of humanity’, though largely absent from social work literature, is a potent concept for challenging the dominant discourses of individual material wealth, greed and power. It can be associated with the postmodern agenda of emancipation from oppressive discourses of professional ‘expertise’. Love, or a ‘love of humanity’, has the same intent as formulations of social work grounded in postmodern critical theory, but it uses a different language. It uses a language of lived experience and personal commitment - a language that appeals to our hearts -a language passionate about, and incorporating, human rights and social justice.
