Ecology of urban lawns under three common management programs

Turfgrass lawns are a central part of urban and suburban landscapes throughout North America and are often managed using repeated applications of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. These inputs are expensive and may negatively affect ecological processes in lawns. Therefore, we evaluated the influence of three most common lawn care programs on ecological characteristics of turfgrass lawns. Twenty-eight home lawns, separated into 3 groups based on the lawn care program (professional, do-it-yourself [DIY], and no-input), were studied. Data on lawn quality, weed and insect infestation, disease incidence, soil nematode community, soil nitrogen pools, microbial biomass (MBN), and soil organic matter (SOM) were collected. Results indicated that professional lawn care resulted in the highest aesthetic lawn quality mainly due to better weed control, compared to DIY and no-input programs. However, professional and DIY programs negatively affected MBN and SOM pools and enhanced disease (rust) severity. No significant differences in soil nematode population and nematode community indices across the three programs were found, indicating no differences in net ecosystem productivity among the three programs. Overall, soil nematode food web in turfgrass lawns represented a disturbed food web compared to natural grasslands and forest ecosystems, irrespective of the lawn care program used.

人类现实地生活在四维时空的阳性物质世界,但是又与四维以上的多维时空的阴性物质世界有着天然的联系.这种联系除了生命的五大要素中有80%的部分存在于阴性物质世界之外,还有一个重要的方面,就是阴阳两个物质世界的生命存在形式在一定条件下相互转化,同时这两种生命存在形式又保持着动态的平衡,即出生人口和死亡人口大体上保持一定的比例.在自然界,动物的生存数量自动地保持着动态平衡,其中必有深刻的不为人们所知的原因.目前世界人口的膨胀已经使阴阳两种生命的存在形式严重失衡,也使人口的生产与物质资料的生产严重失调,因而造成了一系列灾难的发生.人类要增长生存智慧,借助科学的力量克服横在我们面前的一切困难,特别是要学会与自然界和谐相处,做到可持续发展.     

影视作品字幕翻译中跨文化交际信息的转换

文章从跨文化交际信息转换的视角入手,阐述在影视作品字幕翻译中如何处理由于东西方文化差异造成的语言差异,主张对字幕翻译源语言在不同语境中采用不同的翻译手段,即直译、意译、缩译等手法,解决由于文化差异造成的语义缺省和语义冲突,达到语言文化"功能对等"信息转换的目的.     

专利法上的抽象思想与具体技术——计算机程序算法的客体属性分析

程序算法的可专利性是计算机程序专利保护制度的一个核心问题。文章从专利客体从“产品”向“方法”拓展的历史过程出发,揭示专利法区分抽象思想和具体技术的传统标准——“物质状态改变”。文章认为,专利法区分抽象思想与具体技术的传统标准并不像诸多学者所想象的那样否定计算机程序算法的客体属性。程序算法是运行独立于人脑的物理系统(计算机)的具体方法步骤,并非抽象的思维规则。程序算法被执行后会导致传统专利法意义上的“物质状态改变”。因此,程序算法符合前述传统标准,可顺利通过客体审查。沿着这一思路对专利法的传统理论进行整理,能够最大限度地尊重专利法传统,同时又及时地消除了技术进步对客体审查理论的挑战。     

Abscondence and duration of treatment of compulsorily committed alcoholics on a locked ward: effects of changes in the treatment program and the law

The study concerns 124 alcoholics compulsorily committed to a locked ward at Runnagården, a coercive treatment setting in mid-Sweden. Three groups are compared: 57 patients were admitted before and 29 were admitted after the implementation of an introductory Alcoholics Anonymous-oriented program on the ward. Another 38 patients were admitted after the changes in legislation, which resulted in a longer duration of compulsory care. The groups were compared as to the number of days spent on the locked unit and the number of times they absconded. With the implementation of the program, a significant reduction was observed in the time needed on the locked ward, while the number of abscondence incidents showed a weaker tendency to decrease. After the legislative changes were made, the same factors increased. Multivariate regression was used to check confounding background factors. In conclusion, the introduction of an Alcoholics Anonymous-oriented program in a coercive treatment setting reduced the time spent on a locked ward without increasing the number of times patients absconded. Increase in length of coercion increased both the time spent at the locked ward and the number of times absconded.
