从《游骑图》看中西方透视观

唐代佚名作品《游骑图》,无论是从绘画技巧,还是风格来讲,都可视为中国古典写实绘画表现鞍马题材的典范之作,与西方文艺复兴早期如乌切诺等人的写实绘画相比,在鞍马人物形象的准确性与形体透视的生动性等方面的把握上,似乎具有更感人的魅力。可知中国古典写实绘画应是比西方更早掌握了如何通过透视缩形来真实表现客观物体的方法。尽管西方意义的科学透视法并不在中国产生,但那种中国式的视觉投影方法,曾经有力支撑着中国封建时代盛期的绘画写实艺术,那么,甚至在图像时代的今天,我们仍然有必要对其现实意义进行思考。     

Marital status and psychological well-being: An individual-environment congruence perspective

The role of the individual's relationship to his environment has achieved central prominence in social science theory, but has not yet been adequately represented and measured through numerical methods. A variety of multivariate regression techniques have been proposed to incorporate individual and environmental level measures in a single regression equation. This article presents a special case of a contextual analysis model in which two sets of predictor variables are statistically treated to create a third set of predictor variables called congruence measures. Each of the three sets of predictor variables are then run separately in multiple regression equations against a fourth set of individual level outcome variables to determine the relative gain in predictive power of the congruence measures over the individual and environmental level variables when they are run alone. Martital status variables are used to illustrate and examine the model.     

Complexity of process and role in the evaluation of an interdisciplinary mental health education program: The deacon's masterpiece

Research and literature on program evaluation must attend to problems of application, which can have major effect on the outcome. Increasing numbers of innovative, multifaceted programs operating in complex settings are presenting for evaluation. Evaluation process must become flexible, creative, and multifaceted in order to produce valid and comprehensive results, and to meet the needs of this field. Evaluators and evaluation, the evaluated program, and the environment become a mutually interacting system in the process of evaluation. Evaluation goals and roles must be conceptualized, agreed upon, sanctioned, and appropriately implemented or conflict and ineffectiveness will result. Three models of evaluation emerge: objective and independent, objective but serving one interest, and pseudo-scientific public relations. Evaluation of an interdisciplinary mental health education program illustrates these issues. Evaluation technology, process, and roles must all be attended to or the weak link undermines the rest.     

Hormonal homeostasis in a group of 216 aging Czech males and correlation with responses to a questionnaire of the University of St Louis

The male aging process is accompanied by changes in the levels of several types of hormones. Falling levels of androgenic-anabolic steroids (total testosterone, free testosterone, biologically accessible testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone) correspond to a group of symptoms referred to as PADAM syndrome (Partial Androgen Deficiency in the Aging Male). In the case of those carefully examined patients with symptoms of PADAM and proven hypogonadism, administering androgen supplements can alleviate some of the undesirable manifestations. In its literature, the University of St Louis repeatedly refers to its questionnaire as a verbal tool for the detection of possible hypogonadism.

The aim of this study was to ascertain to what extent the aging process is evident in hormonal homeostasis detected in laboratory testing, and the extent to which this data is in accord with the evaluation of responses to questions in the University of St Louis questionnaire. Method: 216 men aged over 50 years were examined. Measurements were taken of: testosterone; the index of free testosterone; androstenedione; dihydrotestosterone; dehydroepiandrosterone and its sulfate; isomers 7α- and 7β-hydroxydehydroepiandrosterone; epitestosterone; luteinizing hormone (LH); follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH); prolactin; and sexual hormone-binding globulin (SHBG). Evaluations of the patients' responses to the University of St Louis questionnaire were compared with the results of the laboratory tests. Results: The study confirms that the most prominent phenomenon is that of an age-related decrease in the index of free testosterone, which is indicated in particular by an increase in the level of SHBG, and by a decrease in dehydroepiandrosterone and its derivatives. No significant correlation was found between levels of hormones and single items on the questionnaire, nor with the overall score arrived at by studying the patients' data.

A characterization of the general mean

A characterization is given of the general mean which is (?X^p)^1/p or exp[log X] for X > 0 according as ρ ≠0 or ρ = 0, where ρ is an unspecified parameter. The approach is axiomatic. The general mean is defined as any quantity satisfying certain axioms which embrace the minimal requirements that any reasonable candidate for the role of mean or most typical value should satisfy. The quantity, indexed by p and given above, is uniquely implied by these axioms.     

Political participation: A comparative view of Israeli and American youth

This study explored the ways in which adolescents in Israel and the United States perceived government, politics, and public affairs. A series of open-ended interviews were conducted with approximately 300 high school students in each country immediately prior to the national elections in 1980–1981. Differences were found in regard to the extent to which the young people felt affected by and capable of affecting the larger political system, the extent to which voting was viewed as an important rite of passage to adulthood, and the extent to which they perceived having real choices in candidates and parties, with Israeli youth generally demonstrating more engagement in national governmental affairs. Finally, the conditions and factors that were likely to lead adolescents toward concern, interest, and participation in public affairs were offered.
