A note on circular neighbor balanced designs

ABSTRACT

This paper describes some methods of constructing circular neighbor balanced and circular partially neighbor balanced block designs for estimation of direct and neighbor effects of the treatments. A class of circular neighbor balanced block designs with unequal block sizes is also proposed.     

Information approach for a lifetime change-point model based on the exponential-logarithmic distribution

ABSTRACT

The exponential-logarithmic distribution is a distribution which has a decreasing failure function and various applications such as in biological and engineering fields. In this paper, we study a change-point problem of this distribution. A procedure based on Schwarz information criterion is proposed to detect changes in parameters of this distribution. Simulations are conducted to indicate the performance of the proposed procedure under different scenarios. Applications on two real data are provided to illustrate the detection procedure.     

Computing the Exact Fisher Information Matrix of Periodic State-Space Models

The purpose of this article is to develop algorithms for computing the exact Fisher information matrix of periodic time-varying state-space models. We first present a relatively simple recursive algorithm which computes the elements of the exact information matrix without involving numerical differentiation, since all required derivatives are analytically evaluated. The proposed algorithm extends the procedure due to Cavanaugh and Shumway (1996 Cavanaugh , J. E. , Shumway , R. H. ( 1996 ). Applic. 321 : 209 – 232 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] , [Google Scholar]), a second algorithm is proposed in order to obtain the exact information matrix as a whole instead of element by element. The algorithms are first developed in a general framework and then specialized to the case of a periodic Gaussian vector autoregressive moving-average (PVARMA) model.     

A Tutorial of Survival Modeling to Capture Covariate Effect

Mixture modeling in general and expectation–maximization in particular are too cumbersome and confusing for applied health researchers. Consequently, the full potential of mixture modeling is not realized. To remedy the deficiency, this tutorial article is prepared. This article addresses important applied problems in survival analysis and handles them in deeper generality than the existing work, especially from the point of view of taking covariates into account. In specific, the article demonstrates the concepts, tools, and inferencial procedure of mixture modeling using head-and-neck cancer data and survival time after heart transplant surgery data.     

Regression and ICOMP—A Simulation Study

A regression simulation study investigates the behaviour of ICOMP, AIC, and BIC under various collinearity-, sample size-, and residual variance-levels. When the variation in the design matrix is large, as the collinearity levels in the design matrix increased, the agreement percentages for all of the information criteria decreased monotonically and that ICOMP agreed with the Kullback Leibler model more often. As the residual variance increases, the agreement percentages of all of the information criteria decreases. However, as the sample size increased the agreement percentages of all information criteria increased. When the variation in the design matrix is low and the collinearity is low, as the residual variance increases, the agreement percentages for all of the information criteria decreases monotonically such that ICOMP agreed more often with Kullback Leibler model than both AIC and BIC.
