On considering the unintended impact of evaluation: reactive distortions in program goals and activities

The relationship between program planning and evaluation can be viewed as bidirectional; that is, evaluation methods, procedures, instruments, and criteria not only are determined by, but also influence, program goals and activities. Within the human services context, several factors or sources of reactivity between evaluation and program planning can be identified. These involve (a) quantification of goals and activities, (b) preferences by different audiences for various kinds of evaluation data, (c) values and evaluation criteria, and (d) evaluation requirements and resource availability. Effects of these reactive features are discussed and illustrated with examples drawn from mental health evaluation and accountability practices. It is argued that for evaluation to be a credible and useful practice, evaluators should plan their efforts and assess their own effectiveness within the larger context of human service systems.

黄哲伦笔下的《蝴蝶君》是对西方后殖民主义《蝴蝶夫人》的拆解之作,是对西方中心神话进行最彻底颠覆的剧作之一。作品中自大自负且自欺的加利马尔以东方主义二分法的视角去审视东方人,东方女人,将她们视为完美的能够为自己殉情的蝴蝶夫人。当加利马尔和宋丽灵“不按套路出牌的游戏”牌底揭晓时,以男子形象出现的宋丽灵彻底摧毁了加利马尔的东方主义幻想,本想征服他人的加利马尔却使自己陷入了自我拆解的漩涡中。

针对戴维·洛奇校园三部曲及其六部天主教小说所反映的对于知识分子的拯救问题,采用了理论分析和实例证明的方法,分析了校园三部曲中对于知识分子的文化拯救以及六部天主教小说中宗教拯救的内容,得到了深陷泥潭、道德沦丧的知识分子们需要通过文化拯救、宗教拯救,以便实现自己与社会的完美结合,达到宗教和人神的和谐统一。     

后现代语境下的传媒研究--论戴维·莫利媒介理论对中国媒介与文化研究的启发

戴维·莫利是英国文化研究的代表人物之一。他继承了伯明翰学派的学术传统,坚持跨学科的理论路径,强调将媒介研究置于社会和物质的背景下,从社会学、人类学、符号学等多学科视角来审视传播和文化;在全球化媒介构建的后现代语境下,他尝试运用人种志方法研究当代文化中媒介消费的全球化与本土化同时发生的动态过程,探讨有关跨文化传播与民族认同等问题。莫利的媒介理论对中国媒介与文化研究开辟新的视角与思路具有重要的启发,能帮助我们更好地理解当前所处的媒介时代与社会语境,为中国现代化进程中出现的媒介现象与传媒发展等问题提供可借鉴的阐释框架与方法论,对我国媒介理论研究与传媒实践都具有重要意义。     

Empowerment evaluation: An approach that has literally altered the landscape of evaluation

The quest for credible and actionable evidence to improve decision making, foster improvement, enhance self-determination, and promote social betterment is now a global phenomenon. Evaluation theorists and practitioners alike have responded to and overcome the challenges that limited the effectiveness and usefulness of traditional evaluation approaches primarily focused on seeking rigorous scientific knowledge about social programs and policies. No modern evaluation approach has received a more robust welcome from stakeholders across the globe than empowerment evaluation.Empowerment evaluation has been a leader in the development of stakeholder involvement approaches to evaluation, setting a high bar. In addition, empowerment evaluation’s respect for community knowledge and commitment to the people’s right to build their own evaluation capacity has influenced the evaluation mainstream, particularly concerning evaluation capacity building. Empowerment evaluation’s most significant contributions to the field have been to improving evaluation use and knowledge utilization.     

A Meadian Approach to Radical Bohmian Dialogue

Issues of communication and the possibilities for the transformation of perspectives through an experimental dialogue resulting in a mutual, open, receptive, and non‐judgmental consideration of the other are addressed in this paper from transdisciplinary theoretical and conceptual standpoints. The warrant for cultivating this type of communicative ability is based on arguments resulting from the assumption of widespread confusion and conflict in intrapersonal, interpersonal, intergroup, and ecological relations across the globe. I argue that there are two distinct classes of “reasons” for this proposed practice of dialogue. First is recognition of the need for human individuals to engage in a regular and systematic “social maintenance” of embodied consciousness to forestall the continuous colonization of the past/future on the living present that embodied consciousness entails. Second is the teaching of a skill to creatively and respectfully engage with others in a mutual transformation of perspectives. This paper addresses the general problem of perspectives and reflexivity at the root of the communication phenomenon and by extension – to its scale and to its pathologies in individuals and collectives. It is argued that suspension of judgment, assumption, and habit (broadly) helps interlocutors to recognize the possibility of holding one's history in a tensional abeyance and to focus on the living present independent of habitualized and reified identities and the embodied manner in which we unconsciously carry ourselves as social or “universalized selves” in social situations.

The warped mirror: the reflection of the ableist stare in David Lynch’s The Elephant Man

David Lynch’s The Elephant Man tells the story of Joseph Merrick – called John Merrick in the film – a man who lived in Victorian England and who was exhibited in ‘freak’ shows under the moniker ‘The Elephant Man.’ One of Lynch’s central concerns in the film is visuality – how Merrick’s disabled body is seen and looked at, both by the characters in the film and by the film’s audience. Ultimately, at both the narrative level and the cinematic level, Lynch exposes the insidious power of forms of looking at the disabled body that collude with and reinforce ableist social hegemony. Using Lacanian and Foucauldian theory and building on the work of Rosemarie Garland-Thomson and Todd McGowan, this article examines exactly how Lynch is able to achieve this anti-ableist work.     

大卫·哈维：全球空间生产的资本逻辑再认识

大卫·哈维认为,《资本论》所阐述的资本积累和经济危机等理论都是高度抽象的概念,每一卷中对相关问题的论述都缺乏连贯性,不能形成完整的统一体,这削弱了《资本论》中资本积累和经济危机理论的说服力。哈维强调对于资本逻辑的研究应该置于全球空间生产的背景和资本主义的动态发展系统中。他从资本积累的动力入手,发现资本主义已经跨入了＂弹性积累＂时代,利润率下降和＂过度积累＂的趋势迫使资本主义国家改变资本循环的模式,但是经济危机仍然不可避免。
