Economic evaluation of drug court: methodology, results, and policy implications

The purpose of this study was to conduct a cost-benefit analysis of three Drug Court programs in Kentucky for two groups of Drug Court participants: program graduates and program terminators. The economic benefits of the Drug Court programs were estimated relative to a comparison group of individuals who were assessed for the Drug Court programs, but did not enter the programs. This study highlights important factors in estimating the costs and the economic benefits of a Drug Court program. Results indicated that, particularly for graduates, Drug Court involvement was associated with reductions in incarceration, mental health services, and legal costs, as well as increases in earnings and child support payments. Net benefits and benefit–cost ratios for each program are presented and policy implications are discussed.

《本草纲目》药名复音词汇的隐喻命名涉及到认知主体的各个认知域,尤其是草部类药名词汇的隐喻命名具有典型性。文章根据认知语言学的相关理论考察草部类药名复音词语的认知域（始源域）特征,分析各个认知域的使用频率,构建隐喻命名形成的等级范畴次序。     

Some Problems in Forecasting Population for Government Planning Purposes

Some governments rely on centralized, official sets of population forecasts for planning capital facilities. But the nature of population forecasting, as well as the milieu of government forecasting in general, can lead to the creation of extrapolative forecasts not well suited to long-range planning. This report discusses these matters, and suggests that custom-made forecasts and the use of forecast guidelines and a review process stressing forecast assumption justification may be a more realistic basis for planning individual facilities than general-purpose, official forecasts.     

论汉语诗歌语言中量词的超常搭配与审美

量词是以汉语为代表的汉藏语系一些语种的特有词类,它具有很强的表现力和艺术个性,普遍运用量词已成为汉语语法的一大特点。量词是汉语中运用比较灵活的一类词,其中又以物量词最为突出,本文在选取大量古今诗歌语料的基础上,考察了诗歌语体中的物量词的几种超常搭配形式以及语用效果,以期在诗歌教学与阅读鉴赏中能领真情、悟真意。

Time and time again: Implications of time perception theory

This article explores the integration of time perception theory from various root disciplines related to family resource management. It includes anthropological models of time perception and sociological and psychological concepts related to time measure and usage. Examples of issues appropriate to the exploration of time use in the home and instrumentation that may assist in its understanding and measurement are included.This research was supported in part by Lincoln University Cooperative Research.Alma J. Drug development: EU paediatric legislation,the European Medicines Agency and its Paediatric Committee—adolescents’ melanoma as a paradigm

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) website lists all diseases that officially exist in adults only. The class waiver for juvenile melanoma was revoked in 2008 referring to US SEER statistics. This statistical justification is misleading. Melanoma in adolescents is much rarer than claimed by EMA/Paediatric Committee; < 1 ∕ 4 of adolescents with melanoma need systemic treatment; separate efficacy studies are neither medically justified nor feasible. The scarce adolescent patients should be allowed to participate in adult trials. To force companies to investigate them separately turns them into paediatric hostages, to adapt the term therapeutic orphans coined in 1968 by Shirkey. There are now five melanoma Paediatric Investigation Plans (PIPs). Probably none of the PIP‐triggered clinical studies will ever be completed; we propose to call them ghost studies. An oncology research network considering a reasonable trial in melanoma, including adolescents, will compete for recruitment with the PIP‐triggered trials designed by regulatory tunnel vision and sponsored by companies under EMA‐imposed pressure.
