In industrial life tests, reliability analysis and clinical trials, the type-II progressive censoring methodology, which allows for random removals of the remaining survival units at each failure time, has become quite popular for analyzing lifetime data. Parameter estimation under progressively type-II censored samples for many common lifetime distributions has been investigated extensively. However, how to estimate unknown parameters of the mixed distribution models under progressive type-II censoring schemes is still a challenging and interesting problem. Based on progressively type-II censored samples, this paper addresses the estimation problem of mixed generalized exponential distributions. In addition, it is observed that the maximum-likelihood estimates (MLEs) cannot be easily obtained in closed form due to the complexity of the likelihood function. Thus, we make good use of the expectation-maximization algorithm to obtain the MLEs. Finally, some simulations are implemented in order to show the performance of the proposed method under finite samples and a case analysis is illustrated.  相似文献

We propose data generating structures which can be represented as a mixture of autoregressive-autoregressive conditionally heteroscedastic models. The switching between the states is governed by a hidden Markov chain. We investigate semi-parametric estimators for estimating the functions based on the quasi-maximum likelihood approach and provide sufficient conditions for geometric ergodicity of the process. We also present an expectation–maximization algorithm for calculating the estimates numerically.  相似文献

It is well known that Yates' algorithm can be used to estimate the effects in a factorial design. We develop a modification of this algorithm and call it modified Yates' algorithm and its inverse. We show that the intermediate steps in our algorithm have a direct interpretation as estimated level-specific mean values and effects. Also we show how Yates' or our modified algorithm can be used to construct the blocks in a 2 k factorial design and to generate the layout sheet of a 2 k−p fractional factorial design and the confounding pattern in such a design. In a final example we put together all these methods by generating and analysing a 26-2 design with 2 blocks.  相似文献

In many practical situations, a statistical practitioner often faces a problem of classifying an object from one of the segmented (or screened) populations where the segmentation was conducted by a set of screening variables. This paper addresses this problem, proposing and studying yet another optimal rule for classification with segmented populations. A class of q-dimensional rectangle-screened elliptically contoured (RSEC) distributions is considered for flexibly modeling the segmented populations. Based on the properties of the RSEC distributions, a parametric procedure for the segmented classification analysis (SCA) is proposed. This includes motivation for the SCA as well as some theoretical propositions regarding its optimal rule and properties. These properties allow us to establish other important results which include an efficient estimation of the rule by the Monte Carlo expectation–conditional maximization algorithm and an optimal variable selection procedure. Two numerical examples making use of utilizing a simulation study and a real dataset application and advocating the SCA procedure are also provided.  相似文献

Summary.  Hip replacements rovide a means of achieving a higher quality of life for individuals who have, through aging or injury, accumulated damage to their natural joints. This is a very common operation, with over a million people a year benefiting from the procedure. The replacements themselves fail mainly as a result of the mechanical loosening of the components of the artificial joint due to damage accumulation. This damage accumulation consists of the initiation and growth of cracks in the bone cement which is used to fixate the replacement in the human body. The data come from laboratory experiments that are designed to assess the effectiveness of the bone cement in resisting damage. We examine the properties of the bone cement, with the aim being to estimate the effect that both observable and unobservable spatially varying factors have on causing crack initiation. To do this, an explicit model for the damage process is constructed taking into account the tension and compression at different locations in the specimens. A gamma random field is used to model any latent spatial factors that may be influential in crack initiation. Bayesian inference is carried out for the parameters of this field and related covariates by using Markov chain Monte Carlo techniques.  相似文献

Two practical degrees of complexity may arise when designing an experiment for a model of a real life case. First, some explanatory variables may not be under the control of the practitioner. Secondly, the responses may be correlated. In this paper three real life cases in this situation are considered. Different covariance structures are studied and some designs are computed adapting the theory of marginally restricted designs for correlated observations. An exchange algorithm given by Brimkulov's algorithm is also adapted to marginally restricted D–optimality and it is applied to a complex situation.  相似文献

In this paper we face the problem of testing the equality of two or more parameters of a multinomial distribution. We develop a likelihood ratio test and we consider an asymptotically equivalent Pearson's statistic. Moreover we develop an exact and a randomized test. Relationships between these tests are then discussed. The behaviour of these tests is studied by simulations. Results from two known tests developed for less general situations are compared to ours.  相似文献

Abstract.  We consider the problem of estimating a collection of integrals with respect to an unknown finite measure μ from noisy observations of some of the integrals. A new method to carry out Bayesian inference for the integrals is proposed. We use a Dirichlet or Gamma process as a prior for μ , and construct an approximation to the posterior distribution of the integrals using the sampling importance resampling algorithm and samples from a new multidimensional version of a Markov chain by Feigin and Tweedie. We prove that the Markov chain is positive Harris recurrent, and that the approximating distribution converges weakly to the posterior as the sample size increases, under a mild integrability condition. Applications to polymer chemistry and mathematical finance are given.  相似文献

It is generally assumed that the likelihood ratio statistic for testing the null hypothesis that data arise from a homoscedastic normal mixture distribution versus the alternative hypothesis that data arise from a heteroscedastic normal mixture distribution has an asymptotic χ 2 reference distribution with degrees of freedom equal to the difference in the number of parameters being estimated under the alternative and null models under some regularity conditions. Simulations show that the χ 2 reference distribution will give a reasonable approximation for the likelihood ratio test only when the sample size is 2000 or more and the mixture components are well separated when the restrictions suggested by Hathaway (Ann. Stat. 13:795–800, 1985) are imposed on the component variances to ensure that the likelihood is bounded under the alternative distribution. For small and medium sample sizes, parametric bootstrap tests appear to work well for determining whether data arise from a normal mixture with equal variances or a normal mixture with unequal variances.  相似文献
