This paper explores the empirical, conceptual and theoretical gains that can be made using cosmopolitan social theory to think through the urban transformations that scholars have in recent years termed planetary urbanization. Recognizing the global spread of urbanization makes the need for a cosmopolitan urban sociology more pressing than ever. Here, it is suggested that critical urban sociology can be invigorated by focusing upon the disconnect that Henri Lefebvre posits between the planetarization of the urban – which he views as economically and technologically driven – and his dis‐alienated notion of a global urban society. The first aim of this paper is to highlight the benefits of using ‘cosmopolitan’ social theory to understand Lefebvre's urban problematic (and to establish why this is also a cosmopolitan problematic); the second is to identify the core cosmopolitan contradictions of planetary urbanization, tensions that are both actually existing and reproduced in scholarly accounts. The article begins by examining the challenges presented to urban sociology by planetary urbanization, before considering how cosmopolitan sociological theory helps provide an analytical ‘grip’ on the deep lying social realities of contemporary urbanization, especially in relation to questions about difference, culture and history. These insights are used to identify three cosmopolitan contradictions that exist within urbanized (and urbanizing) space; tensions that provide a basis for a thoroughgoing cosmopolitan investigation of planetary urbanization.  相似文献

The recent focus on the intangible resources of the organization in general, and specifically the notion of knowledge, has problematized the notion of organization. Rather than seeing organizations as systems that integrate the use of all kinds of physical, financial and human resources, the knowledge‐based view (KBV) of the firm and knowledge management literature emphasize the organization as a site for the development, use of and dissemination of knowledge and other forms of intellectual resources and assets. KBV and knowledge management literature also address the notion of knowledge as such; is knowledge what can be represented by concepts, figures, and statistics, or are there qualities inherent in knowledge that cannot easily be described, disseminated, or procured? The notion of tacit knowledge has been used to denote all forms of knowledge that cannot be represented: knowledge that cannot be fully articulated, expressed in formulas or described in documents. This paper aims to provide a critique of the notion of tacit knowledge as it is used in KBV and knowledge management literature. It examines the notion of tacit knowledge through the philosophy of Henri Bergson and concludes that the notion of tacit knowledge is little more than an umbrella term for unrepresentable knowledge. Thus, the notion of tacit knowledge should be used with care rather than being a residual category of knowledge.  相似文献

旅游的唯物主义研究方法在地理学范围内乃至社会科学领域面临挑战。直到20世纪80年代,旅游研究领域仍为经济学视角所主导,自90年代初起,旅游研究受到了文化转向的深刻影响,旅游活动的研究从讨论目的地逐步发展为研究旅游者本身。旅游现象的经济学视角逐渐让位于文化视角,从宏观社会角度转入微观社会学分析。通过研究旅游者行为、话语和想象,有助于更好地理解旅游研究者长期忽视的元素,把旅游研究和其他问题区分开来,并趋于掩盖旅游发展带来或激化的社会不平等和统治关系等问题。在旅游的地理学研究回归到唯物主义方法的背景下,更充分地理解旅游业相关社会冲突,特别是为争夺旅游地空间占有权的冲突。文章以一系列旅游空间问题为出发点,以墨西哥的实证研究为基础,关注旅游发展带来的地方冲突,重点围绕土地所有权问题展开。马克思主义哲学家列斐伏尔的理论成果为创立空间政治经济学奠定了基础,特别关注空间的旅游开发中容易引发或者激化的社会矛盾。回归历史唯物主义似乎是一种鼓励旅游批判性评估的方法,有助于回避70年代盛行的基于结构主义和马克思主义视角的研究弊端,并聚焦于目的地社会的旅游“影响”问题,表明旅游研究对更加全面理解当代资本主义社会的贡献。  相似文献

This article suggests a qualitatively different type of ‘space’ that fits the classic definition of what constitutes an ‘organization’, but that is frequently rejected as being beyond the scope of HRD because it does not fit preconceived notions of an ‘organization’. In this article, I describe how social movements are spaces analogous to organizations that can enrich our understanding of HRD principles and that may benefit from our professional experience in fostering learning and development for and within organizations. Using concepts of sensemaking in the organizing process (Weick, K. E. 1979. The Social Psychology of Organizing. 2nd ed. Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage Publications) and concepts of space (Foucault, M. 1986. “Of Other Spaces.” Translated by J. Miskowiec. Diacritics 16 (1): 22–27; Lefebvre, H. 1991. The Production of Space. 亨利·列斐伏尔明确区分了工业化与城市化,提出城市的权利和城市革命,指出全球化的实质是城市化,认为城市是全球空间的脉络背景,城市空间是资本主义的产物。列斐伏尔的城市空间社会学理论继承和发展了马克思主义的理论与方法,具有开创性意义,填补了以往社会理论对空间研究的空白,对于理解当代中国社会具有很强的解释和说明意义。但是,列斐伏尔的城市空间社会学理论具有抽象思辨性和乌托邦特点。  相似文献

近代来华法国耶稣会士在译介中国文学作品时,对中国文学中的他界书写也有所涉及。其原因包括出于传教目的而了解中国文化;站在天主教的立场上批评中国的迷信观念;客观的学术研究等。主要的译介者包括戴遂良、禄是遒等,译介的他界书写主要出现在一些受佛道观念影响的文学作品中。译介意义一是对汉学研究的贡献;二是作为跨文化宗教思想的传递,有助于西方读者更全面地了解真实的中国。  相似文献
