Fiddling while the planet burns? COP25 in perspective

ABSTRACT

With fires, storms, social protests, and climate strikes sweeping the world, 2019 should have been a tipping point in how the world responds to global heating. This was the backdrop to the COP25 climate change summit which took place in Madrid in December 2019. This paper assesses the outcomes of the meeting and the path towards the critically important meeting in Glasgow at the end of 2020. It analyses and explains the key points of contention over levels of ambition, the rules which should govern global carbon markets and sensitive issues such as loss and damage associated with the impacts of climate change. The analysis is situated within a broader geopolitical and economic context of right-wing populism, deepening forms of marketization and financialization of responses to climate change and against a background of a world increasingly feeling the effects of the climate crisis.

左拉生活在巴黎都市化走向高潮的时期,他的大部分小说或以巴黎生活为中心,或以巴黎为场景,表现了19世纪中后期法国经济发展、物质满足背后人的精神空虚和道德的堕落。左拉小说中的巴黎是罪恶之城,其精神特质与人性的邪恶联系在一起。左拉运用狂欢节的意象和场面,表现了法国都市化时期人的欲望放纵和攫取金钱地位的野心,而酒作为左拉小说中影响人物性格、气质与行动的因素,则具有丰富的象征意义,通过对酒的自然主义及象征主义表现,左拉表现了处于“酒神”控制下的巴黎图景。左拉自然主义的人性观、理性主义思想极大地影响了他对巴黎形象的塑造。     

大巴黎规划视角:低碳城市建设的启示

人类活动对自然的影响越来越大,同样全球气候的深刻变化日益影响着人类的生存和发展。西欧,作为全球环保意识最高的地区,其城市发展也充分体现了与环境友好相处的特征。2009年4月,法国公布了新的对巴黎地区进行改造的宏伟计划——“大巴黎计划”,其中城市改造的“低碳”理念为未来大都市的发展提供了很好的借鉴。     

School Choice in London and Paris – A Comparison of Middle‐class Strategies

Education is one major public service in which quasi‐markets and other choice‐based mechanisms are now established methods of delivery. The types of school people choose, and the extent to which their choices are realized, have a fundamental impact on the outcomes of any mechanism of school choice. In this article, we provide a comparative analysis of the school choice strategies of middle‐class families in London and Paris. We draw on approximately 200 in‐depth interviews carried out across the two cities. This enables us to investigate the extent to which middle‐class school choice strategies transcend the institutional context provided by both the local (state and private) schools market and national education policy in England and France. We discuss these findings in the context of current school choice policy and consider their implications for future policy design.     

薛福成《观巴黎油画记》小考

晚清驻外公使薛福成《观巴黎油画记》所说的油画,为法国19世纪知名的全景画《围攻伊西要塞》,一名《围攻巴黎》,由画家菲利波托父子合作创作。晚清到过法国的许多中国人曾观赏此画并记录感想,他们对此画不约而同做的民族主义的解读,是一种文化误读。     

菲律宾条约界限的性质刍议——以条约界限的形成、演变与确立为中心

菲律宾条约界限是现代菲律宾国家领土形成的重要法理与历史依据,划定了菲律宾领土的基本范围。其前身是1898年美西《巴黎和约》提出的"巴黎和约线",后经三次局部变动,最终演变成菲律宾条约界限并固化,而不能再外扩至其他岛礁。条约界限正式构建了美属菲律宾的疆界,这一领土范围为独立后的菲律宾所继承。菲律宾宣称对南沙群岛的部分岛礁和黄岩岛享有主权,根本是站不住脚的。     

联合国与“国家人权机构”的萌生和发展——基于史料的考察与分析

自联合国成立之初,专家和学者们就开始探索如何在国家层面上设立有效落实国际人权条约的人权保护机制.这些努力的成果之一就是1993年联合国大会决议认可的"国家人权机构"模式的确立.由此而诞生的"巴黎原则"被认为是设立国家人权机构的最低标准.在联合国大会、宪章机构、条约机构以及联合国人权高专办等机构的协力推动下,以"巴黎原则"为标准设立的国家人权机构已遍布世界各大洲.     

Satori in Paris: Deconstructing the French Connection or the Legend’s Satori

Abstract

The deconstruction of Kerouac’s trip to France in search of his family name and lineage as described in Satori in Paris, published in 1966, is examined, and consideration is also given to the very process of redefining French connections. The novel — a voyage to the end of the night trying to decipher, redefine, and blur the French signs that Kerouac had scattered his Duluoz Legend with — is riddled with many deconstructing elements, which allow for better insight into both the quest Kerouac had set for himself and the meaning of French connections throughout the Legend. ‘What’s in a name’ could precisely be the question and possibly the answer. The deconstructing process initiated in Big Sur is now reaching its ultimate step, jeopardizing the stability of the creation of Duluoz’s and Kerouac’s legend altogether.     

香港兴中会总会的成立及其重要性

兴中会之始创,过去有1892年澳门说、1893年广州说,以及1894年檀香山说,而以檀香山说最为可取.1895年,兴中会在香港成立总会.比较兴中会相继在檀香山与香港制定的宣言和章程,可知香港兴中会总会实为首具革命意向之团体;陈少白在香港创设《中国日报》,宣传革命,是为革命报刊始祖;该会于香港策动乙未广州之役,是为武装起义之始.香港兴中会总会遂能于近代中国革命运动中先拔头筹,香港亦因此成为近代中国革命之摇篮.     

La dynamique de la vocation : les évolutions de la rationalisation de l’engagement au travail des danseurs de ballet

The commitment to one's work, with body and soul involvement is a key issue in the study of vocation-driven occupations. In such callings, the aspirations that are socially constructed and experienced as vocations have been shown to provide meaning and direction to one's commitment. However, this study of Paris Opera ballet dancers shows that realizing one's aspirations are impossible to achieve does not necessarily result in quitting, nor retraining. Changes in the way dancers relate to their work are studied using sequential analysis, to examine which social factors may explain how this involvement's meaning is maintained. The analysis identifies some processes of vocation recomposition. Thus revealing, behind the professional careers, the “moral careers” of the vocation.
