SUMMARY

A list of all treatment facilities for adolescent sex offenders that described themselves as inpatient or residential was requested from the Safer Society Foundation in Brandon, Vermont. A total of 203 such facilities were identified in this manner. Each was sent a questionnaire regarding their policies and practices. Of the 50 questionnaires that were returned, 49 were usable. Items on the questionnaire dealt with major phases of operating a residential program, including number of beds, average daily census, number of males and females in treatment, testing and assessment procedures, most frequent diagnoses, average IQ of patients, abuse history, therapeutic approaches used, number and types of individual/group treatment sessions per week, qualifications of therapists, average length of treatment, and follow-up research on treatment.  相似文献

Fire Risks in Oil Refineries: Economic Analysis of Camera Monitoring   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A probabilistic method is presented to evaluate the economic value of fire monitoring by closed circuit TV camera in petroleum refineries. The proposed model is restricted to the analysis of risk reduction in an area where fires can be caused either by pump failure or by failure of valves and lines. The benefits come from reducing the time during which the fire grows undetected. Fire growth and expected values of losses are analyzed by a Markov model that includes five phases: (1) active undetected growth, (2) detection, (3) fire growth at the beginning of the firemen's intervention, (4) fire control, and (5) fire extinction. The results (e.g., the expected net present value of the investment) show that the proposed monitoring investment is attractive for an illustrative example.  相似文献

The use of participatory approaches in designing services is still relatively uncommon. In this study, we helped design a service to support the transition of youth from residential care to independent living by exploring the perspectives of staff and of youth regarding: (a) the concept and development of autonomy; and (b) key factors in developing this type of service. We gathered the data through 10 interviews with staff (n = 10) and 4 focus groups with youth (n = 21), and subjected the data to a thematic content analysis. Staff defined autonomy as self-regulation and self-care, and identified three paths to foster autonomy – a sense of normality, meaningful relationships, and planning for emancipation. The staff and youth identified the following important aspects in designing the service: achieving normality (e.g. limited number of residents), promoting youth capacity (e.g. skill-building activities), providing social support (e.g. trust and respect between residents), and assuring guidance and boundaries (e.g. supervision of youth).  相似文献

All 29 operators in the control room of a fire brigade performed test sessions during work and leisure time at 2-h intervals on a day with a 14-h night-shift, a day off and a day with a 10-h morning shift. The test sessions consisted of a visual search choice reaction time test and two Sternberg memory search tests (1 or 5 letters had to be memorized). Furthermore, the operators recorded their oral temperature and their subjective alertness before each test session. The subject also kept a diary of work and sleep times for 14 days. The circadian rhythm of body temperature was hardly changed by a single night-shift. Parallel to the body temperature, the subjective alertness fell significantly during the night-shift reaching a minimum value at 06:00 h. The mean reaction times increased non-significantly at the end of the night-shift and the results of the two Sternberg memory search tests showed no significant trends. The sleep of the operators after the night-shift was on average reduced to 5 hs 34 min. The results of subjective rating of alertness and reaction time test are interpreted as effects of the combined influences of circadian rhythmicity, sleep loss and time on professional task. Most results support the conclusion that a 14-h night-shift without extensive breaks is not acceptable.  相似文献

The U.S. residential landscape is increasingly multi-racial and multi-ethnic, giving rise to the question of how to compare dichotomous segregation among multiple groups living in the same area. To address the problem in the existing dichotomous approach, which offers no common basis for comparing dichotomous segregation among multiple groups, this paper develops a weighted segregation ratio approach based on Theil’s segregation index and its additive decomposability. This approach can be used to bridge information obtained from dichotomous segregation between specific groups (such as black-white and black-Hispanic), and dichotomous segregation between group and non-group (such as white-non-white and black-non-black) in previous studies. We apply both dichotomous and weighted segregation ratio approaches to 1990 and 2000 U.S. census data. Results are interpreted for five selected metropolitan areas as well as for the weighted national average. This new approach yields distinctive findings that portray the complicated process of residential segregation, including the increasing significance of Hispanic segregation and Asian segregation in the decade from 1990 to 2000.  相似文献

利用大连市432份针对60岁以上本地老年人和移居老年人的调查问卷,运用交叉分析和卡方检验方法,对我国移居老年人的居住意识进行假设检验。将居住意识详解为定居意向。移居意向和不确定意向。研究表明:①本地老年人的定居意向非常强。移居老年人容易产生返乡意向。②在移居老年人中,主观适应感强的老年人具有较强的定居意识。主观适应感较弱或不太适应社会的老年人容易产生不确定的居住意向和返乡意向。③移居老年人中.不孤独的老年人具有较强的定居意向。感觉孤独的老年人容易具有不确定的居住意向和返乡意向。④移居老年人中。地区归属感越强。则定居意向越强。无归属感的老年人更容易具有返乡意向和不确定意向。对移居老年人居住意识的探讨有利于把握人口流动过程中老年人群体的生活状况。为提升老年人生活质量的各种制度和政策制定提供实践依据。  相似文献

悖论元素被看做是构成诗歌文本张力的最重要因素之一,田桑在诗歌《藏身于木箱的火》中则通过对记忆的书写向我们展示出悖论在世界、事物、诗歌与我们个体之间所造成的奇妙关系:诗中事物在逻辑构成上是悖论的,事物本性与人类情感是悖论的,诗对事物的敞开与蔽合之行动永远处在悖论之途中。在他的诗歌中对悖论的言说由诗歌本体延伸到对人类自身现世处境中诸多矛盾现象的思考,并进一步引发了我们对悖论之态度的思考。  相似文献
