Institutions of higher education have embraced online formats as a new form of teaching in order to reach more students. Like other disciplines, social work pedagogy has embraced the use of online technology in higher education. As a professional and ethical responsibility, it is imperative that social work online courses are of high quality and that they meet the stated objectives. The study presented here describes students' perceptions and experiences in online and in-classroom sections in the Theories and Practice with Communities and Agencies course at a large public university in Southeastern USA. A survey was administered to the students at the end of the semester. Qualitative themes show that method of instruction as it related to course content, comfort with the level of instruction, and role of instructor in online courses affected students' perceptions of both the course and method of instruction. Discussions are directed toward improving online instruction in social work education.  相似文献

This paper contributes to research on genetic counseling by exploring the complexity of this activity from the angle of identity construction. We argue that an analysis of the processes through which healthcare providers construct and negotiate their roles and identities in these encounters may contribute to a better understanding of the complexities of genetic counseling. Drawing on more than 150 video‐recorded genetic counseling encounters between nurses and clients in Hong Kong, we illustrate that the discursive processes involved in the construction of the nurses' identities are complex, overlapping and at times contradictory as the nurses respond to the (sometimes) competing norms and expectations of their institution, their clients and their own. They manage to solve these tensions by drawing on the roles traditionally assigned to nurses in these encounters such as information provider and counselor, as well as creating the new roles of co‐decision maker and cultural broker/mediator.  相似文献

This study examines the gender difference in educational expectations among black, white, and Hispanic high school seniors in 1972 and 1992. We link gender-related changes in expectations to students’ perceived parental encouragement for higher education and access to college-preparatory coursework, and then examine the influence of expectations on subsequent educational attainments. In contrast to 1972, girls in 1992 perceived their parents to be equally or more encouraging of their pursuit of higher education than did boys, and girls were more likely to be enrolled in college preparatory coursework. The changes were most dramatic among white students, and the rise in expectations among high school girls independently contributes to their recent advances in higher education.  相似文献

The current study sought to add to the literature that has demonstrated a link between sexism and sexual prejudice. The study evaluated whether a community sample with an age range of 19–64 (n = 122), including 32% sexual minority participants, believe that dating, sex, and marriage with same-sex partners are perceived to be gender role violations. Results varied by participant sexual/gender identity (LGBTQ or heterosexual) and political ideology. Liberal LGBTQ persons do not see same-sex relationships as gender role violations; LGBTQ non-liberals and heterosexual liberals rated same-sex relationships as mild violations; and non-liberal heterosexuals perceive same-sex relationships as “moderate” violations. Our results suggest both positive movement in attitudes toward same-sex relationships, including same-sex marriage, and broader recognition that gender identity, gender role expression, and sexual orientation are separate and distinct components of one’s overall sexual identity.  相似文献

随着国内改革环境的逐步宽松和市场竞争的加剧,为了赢得社会声誉和获得商业利益,媒体有动力去监督公司中存在的治理问题。在本文所选取的96个研究样本中,60.42%存在公司治理问题的企业都在证监会正式介入调查前受到过媒体的质疑和负面报道,说明媒体并非事前"缄默无语"、事后"言辞铿锵",而是积极地扮演了资本市场监督者的角色;基于成本与收益的权衡考虑,媒体会选择性质严重和涉及金额大的公司治理问题进行负面报道。本文的研究结论一方面为媒体在转型经济国家发挥公司治理监督者的作用提供了证据,另一方面也分析了在法律制度和市场化尚不完善的情况下,影响媒体发挥监督作用的因素,依此提出了若干政策建议。  相似文献

随着全球网络经济的迅猛发展,网络标准竞争策略及其有效性已引起产业组织理论研究的重视.在直接网络外部性的研究框架中,消费者预期对标准竞争均衡具有重要影响,而在间接网络外部性下,标准供应商的预期对均衡也会产生重要影响.构建了具有间接网络外部性的标准竞争动态博弈模型,分析主导性预期及标准联盟对标准竞争均衡的影响及其福利效应.研究发现:哪种预期成为主导性预期取决于消费者是否存在策略性延迟购买;标准供应商可以通过组建标准联盟来影响强制性标准的选择,进而影响消费者预期;消费者预期越准确,策略性延迟的福利损失越小;但是,在一定条件下,标准联盟将导致更多的消费者延迟购买,导致福利损失.研究结果可用于解释我国数字电视领域标准竞争的事实.  相似文献

This paper introduces a discrete-choice simultaneous-equation social interaction model. We provide a microfoundation for the econometric model by considering an incomplete information game where individuals interact in multiple activities through a network. We characterize the sufficient condition for the existence of a unique BNE of the game. We discuss the identification of the econometric model and propose a two-stage estimation procedure, where the reduced form parameters are estimated by the NPL algorithm in the first stage and the structural parameters are recovered from the estimated reduced form parameters by the AGLS estimator in the second stage. Monte Carlo experiments show that the proposed estimation procedure performs well in finite samples and remains computationally feasible when networks are large. We also provide an empirical example to illustrate the empirical relevance of the proposed model.  相似文献

This study examines the relationship between career concerns of organizational decision-makers and their investments by analyzing data from Major League Baseball's (MLB) annual player draft. Career concerns for MLB general managers (GMs) can create incentives to prioritize near-term success and thus spend fewer draft resources on high school players (who, being younger than college players, are less likely to provide near-term benefit to an MLB team). Findings are consistent with this: underperforming expectations in the prior season leads teams to spend significantly smaller proportions of signing bonus dollars on high school players, an effect driven by GMs with relatively short tenures.  相似文献

Building on the conservation of resources theory and self-determination theory, the present study develops and tests a moderated mediation model of organizational citizenship behaviour, in which a) emotional exhaustion serves as a mediating mechanism linking role overload with organizational citizenship behaviour, and b) supervisor autonomy support moderates the relationship between role overload and organizational citizenship behaviour through emotional exhaustion. Results of a time-lagged study of 144 workers from various Canadian organizations provided support for the hypothesized model: supervisor autonomy support buffered a negative effect of role overload on emotional exhaustion and, indirectly, organizational citizenship behaviour. This research sheds light on the intervening variables that may explain the relationship between challenge stressors and extra-role behaviours. It also provides information on managerial practices that may protect employees’ optimal functioning against an excessive workload.  相似文献
