Social Contexts and Coping Strategies of Foreign Wives in Korea: Using a Conceptual Framework of Social Identity Theory

This study aimed to address the social contexts of Korean society in which diverse social interactions of foreign wives take place and to identify coping strategies to construct positive social identities. Social identities are often reconstructed as a result of dynamic interactions with various situations. Using the conceptual framework of social identity theory, this study attempted to uncover the social contexts that shape foreign wives' social identities. This study, using the qualitative approach, selected nine Filipino and Vietnamese participants who were married to Korean men. The data were collected by in‐depth interviews, a focus group with three Vietnamese participants, field notes, participant observation, and photo documents. In the section on study findings, this study addressed Korean social contexts, in which Korean government has been providing a variety of multicultural policies and services for helping foreign wives successfully adapt to Korea. This study also found various forms of stereotypes and discrimination against foreign wives and presented their discrimination experiences. Diverse ways to cope with such negative experiences are presented in the last section. Given the findings, the researcher suggests that policies and programs should promote foreign wives' integration in Korean society.     

平等权的修辞功能研究

近年来,乙肝歧视、身高歧视和户籍歧视等主张同等对待的诉讼案件不断见诸报端。然而,深究这些案件中“平等权”的含义,不难发现,在日常生活中,“平等权”这一言辞将人们的注意焦点引向了追求“同等对待”上,而忽略了区分“同等”的正当标准。文章基于“平等”的多层次内涵,阐释“平等权”到底如何发挥对利益分配的合理化修辞功能的,进而结合案件探究解决各类歧视案件的有效途径。     

Unraveling Health Disparities Among Sexual and Gender Minorities: A Commentary on the Persistent Impact of Stigma

ABSTRACT

LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) populations experience disparities in health outcomes, both physical and mental, compared to their heterosexual and cisgender peers. This commentary confronts the view held by some researchers that the disparate rates of mental health problems reported among LGBT populations are the consequences of pursuing a particular life trajectory, rather than resulting from the corrosive and persistent impact of stigma. Suggesting that mental health disparities among LGBT populations arise internally, de novo, when individuals express non-heterosexual and non-conforming gender identities ignores the vast body of evidence documenting the destructive impact of socially mediated stigma and systemic discrimination on health outcomes for a number of minorities, including sexual and gender minorities. Furthermore, such thinking is antithetical to widely accepted standards of health and wellbeing because it implies that LGBT persons should adopt and live out identities that contradict or deny their innermost feelings of self.     

Exploring the nonverbal facet of ethnic discrimination: a field experiment on anti-Roma racism in the Paris métro

A field experiment on the discrimination of Roma migrants from Eastern Europe was conducted in two stations of the Paris metro to explore the behaviors that may communicate misrecognition in everyday encounters. An actress asked for help to randomly chosen passengers on a metro platform, wearing a glaringly Romani skirt in the treatment condition but an unconspicuous middle-class style in the control condition. In interaction with the actress wearing the Romani skirt, passengers were found to enact the so-called “visual dominance pattern”, and male passengers in particular were found to keep greater distances. Reverse discrimination also occurred as women kept shorter distances from the actress bearing the ethnic stigma. Last, passengers helped less the stigmatized actress, but only in one of the two metro stations where trials were conducted.     

Some tests for the power series distibutions in one parameter using the kullback-leibler information measure

The purpose of the article is, in case of one sample, to obtain tests concerning the parameter in the power series distribution in one parameter using Ku11back-Leibier information measure. The class of power series distibutions contains a host of discrete distributions. Ve illustrate the general results obtained in case of the geometric distibution.     

从《白鲸》中的白色探讨美国的种族歧视问题

美国作家赫尔曼·麦尔维尔的《白鲸》是19世纪的一部宏篇巨作，作者从白色的意义、白色的本质以及对白色的追寻这几个层面，挖掘出白色所隐含的种族歧视问题，探讨了其中所蕴藏着的反种族歧视的萌芽，表明了麦尔维尔对自己的内心世界、对种族问题所进行的艰难而又痛苦的探索与思考。     

清代满族文学与"京腔京韵"

清代满族人的汉语北京方言表达能力升至高水准,满族作家在文学创作中运用的"京腔"艺术性语言,也跟进于本民族的语言拓展,标示出高水准。清初满族刚刚登上汉语文坛不久,他们的诗人即一反中原文学引经据典、高深莫测之传统,蹊径独辟,是以天然、浑朴、俗畅、晓白著称;在中国文学的发展中,最能代表满人文学成就者,非满族小说莫属,其一以贯之的长处,也首推语言,曹雪芹《红楼梦》、文康《儿女英雄传》,以及清末大量涌现的满人京语白话小说,还有子弟书、八角鼓等俗文艺,无不引领中国近代早期白话创作风骚,开启现代"京味儿"文学先河之功用价值。     

如何从生命周期理解我国的收入不平等

文章从生命周期的角度入手,以期为理解收入不平等提供一个不同的视角.基尼系数本质上衡量的是结果的不平等,收入所得税等政府政策也侧重对结果不平等的调整,但收入结果的不平等起源于机会的不平等,强化于过程的不平等,最终才表现为结果的不平等.机会不平等、过程不平等和结果不平等对应不同的生命周期阶段,需要不同的政策措施.对于机会不平等,政府应着眼于消除户籍制度等对不同人群的制度性歧视,减少我国区域发展水平的差距;推动幼儿和青少年教育与医疗服务的均等化,为他们创造一个公平的养教环境.对于过程不平等,一个重要的方面是建立对各种所有制员工和不同雇佣关系职工都公平的城乡统一的市场环境,消除劳动力市场中同工不同酬等歧视现象,尤其是取消国家制度和政策造成的劳动力市场分割.对于结果不平等,要兼顾公平和效率,在现有个人所得税、最低生活保障制度等基础上,逐步建立城乡统一、公平公正的收入调节和社会保障体系.     

论宪法平等权在我国司法实践中的适用

本文论证了宪法平等权的性质,平等和合理差别的关系,结合就业歧视个案提出了在司法实践中适用宪法平等权的法律依据和条件,以及应当注意的问题,对宪法平等权的司法适用问题做了初步探讨.
