‘We swam before we breathed or walked’: able-bodied belonging in popular stories of evolutionary biology

This article introduces the concept of ‘able-bodied belonging,’ and pays particular attention to the cultural mechanisms in which ableism intertwines with the forms of belonging. Taking a cultural studies viewpoint, the article focuses on present evolutionary biological accounts, and explores the ableist and speciesist assumptions that frame evolutionary biology. The article investigates how these accounts invoke a feeling of belonging to the animal world in ways which reinforce the idea that only a particular kind of body is species-typical of humans. First, the article explores how the cultural stories that emphasize the connection between human beings and non-human species eventually distance particular bodies from humanity. Second, the article shows how humans’ connection to the animal world could emerge in a way that contests the exceptionality of able-bodied humanity.

反腐英雄形象类型的发展演变是当代中国文化语境转化的必然产物。反腐剧在发展之初 ,受反英雄化文艺思潮影响 ,创造的是有缺点的英雄 ;创作者们在独立思考之后 ,作为对文化保守主义的反拨 ,塑造的是完美的英雄 ;近来 ,在英雄主义成为明日黄花之后 ,创作者选择了人性化的英雄     

基于文献综述的文化产业概念反思

自1944年法兰克福学派提出＂文化产业＂概念至今,文化产业成为了我国和英、美、日、韩等发达国家竞相发展的战略性产业。然而,各国政府和学术界对文化产业这一概念尚未形成统一的认识,文化产业定义五花八门,成了文化产业研究中一个亟需解决的问题。文化产业是指为满足人们的精神文化需求,通过创造性地利用文化资源,形成文化价值,并采用工业生产手段大量复制的文化产品和文化服务的总和。     

Conjuncture and cultural reproduction in the process of embedding: social work practice in the context of government purchase of services in China

This paper focuses on the Chinese government’s policy of purchasing social services and discusses how relevant organisations provide social work and develop it within local socio-political and cultural contexts. An ethnographic research method was adopted for the study by the first author while participating in social work development in Q City. We argue that the policy of purchasing social services succeeded in achieving “embedded development” but also created a “conjuncture structure” in cultural reproduction. However, due toprofessional social workers in China have, in practice, passively responded to the conjuncture there has been a failure to reproduce professional values of social work in the Chinese cultural context. Therefore, further development of social work in China needs to strengthen cultural reflection in practical actions, focus on the exploration of cultural connections between social work practice and local communities, and enhance the cultural capacity of social workers in the local cultural context.     

Child‐caregiver Attachment Representations in a Non‐Western Context: The Feasibility and Cultural Equivalence of Story Stems in Urban Ghana

Story stem measures are an increasingly popular method for assessing the attachment representations of young children, but little is known of their cross‐cultural applicability. This study aimed to characterise the attachment representations in 73 five‐ to eight‐year‐old children in urban Ghana, West Africa, using the Manchester Child Attachment Story Task (MCAST) to test its feasibility, psychometric characteristics and concurrent associations with caregiver‐ and teacher‐rated child behaviour, and to conduct a qualitative thematic analysis of methodological observations. Among the classifiable cases (92 percent), all attachment classifications were observed, yielding a higher rate of secure attachment than in European samples. Inter‐rater reliability, internal consistency, and internal structure were reasonable and largely similar to European studies, although one structural difference was the separation of ‘child assuagement of distress’ from other secure‐related items. MCAST narratives were associated with teacher‐ and caregiver‐rated hyperactivity, but internal consistency was low in most Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire scales. Possible culturally‐sensitive explanations for our psychometric and qualitative findings are discussed. Overall, story stems are a promising tool for accessing attachment representations in non‐Western samples, although modifications are likely to improve cross‐cultural equivalence when applied to non‐Western cultures. Further investigation is needed to link MCAST outcomes to parenting and socio‐emotional development.     

论英汉互译文本中翻译变易的三个层面

变易是翻译中普遍存在的一种现象,由于两种语言系统的差异,译者不得不作语言层面上的变易。语言上的变易有可能对译本的其他三个层面,即语义、风格及语用含义造成影响,这四个层面的变易现象常常会同时体现在一个词或句子上。通过英汉译本中的实例,分析后三个层面上的翻译变易,即语义变易、风格变易和语用变易,指出译者的翻译策略及相应的变易受文化的宏观影响。     

河南省传统文化资源的深度挖掘

河南省传统文化资源存量丰富,但相关部门各自为政缺乏统一管理,难以实现共享和深度开发及文化产业化。基于文化生态学的视角,河南文化产业决策研究知识平台的构建,首先应建设好文化资源数据库、创意及策划人才智囊库,同时要搭建项目评估合作中心,并建立产业化、品牌化战略研究中心和文化改革发展试验区。

电影《时时刻刻》是作为一部“女性主义”影片获得成功和被接受的。但是通过对它的文化解读我们可以发现,在这部艺术作品中,男性主导话语对女性形象“再现”过程起着潜移默化的置换和扭曲作用,而在文化研究中,代言人的身份是非常关键的一个考察前提。透过女性身份表现出的男权渗透才是女性文化中最为普遍的现象。
