Parents’ awareness of lesbian,gay, and bisexual youths’ sexual orientation

This study used a sample of 293 lesbian, gay, and bisexual youth to examine factors that differentiated youth whose parents knew of their sexual orientation from youth whose parents did not know. Earlier awareness and disclosure of same‐gender attractions, greater childhood gender atypicality, and less internalized homophobia were characteristic of youth whose parents were aware of youths’ sexual orientation. Youth with aware parents reported more past verbal victimization on the basis of sexual orientation from parents, yet more current family support and less fear of future parental victimization on the basis of their sexual orientation.     

HIV prevention and sex workers: an international lesson in empowerment

This article examines the impact and influence of advocacy on HIV prevention efforts among sex workers in India. A novel project initiated in Songachi, a red-light district in Calcutta, was instrumental in reducing the rate of new infections among sex workers and increasing the use of condoms to significant levels. The Songachi Project utilised methods and techniques that empowered this stigmatised, exploited and disenfranchised segment of the population. The impact of this World Bank-aided project was far-reaching; a key benefit is that it can be duplicated in developing countries around the world. Social workers involved in harm reduction initiatives and HIV/AIDS prevention efforts with at-risk groups like sex workers can develop their own prevention programmes utilising this model as presented here.

驱张运动是五四运动前夕湖南人民反对封建军阀的一次民主运动。以傅熊湘为代表的湘籍南社社员积极投身于这场运动,并且与毛泽东等青年一代在上海汇合,创办《天问》周刊等。湘籍南社成员在驱张运动中的文学创作,在其他省籍的南社成员中引起了很大的反响并衍生出大量的与驱张运动相关的诗歌作品。

本文认为，新月派针对诗坛的“混乱”，以挑战的姿态提出建立诗美规范的目标，探索诗的本体，致力于抒情的艺术化，其诗的本体探索的焦点集中在“理性节制情感”的美学原则和诗的形式格律化的主张与实践。随着社会生活的迅猛发展，后来新月派呈现出向现代主义大潮归附的趋势，这都在一定程度上反映了新诗发展上的历史要求，其意义是不可轻估的。     

Radical Outcasts versus Three Kinds of Police: Constructing Limits in Japanese Anti-Emperor Protests

Field observation of anti-emperor protests in Japan reveals two key processes through which the interaction of police and demonstrators gradually narrows the limits of permitted dissent through soft repression. The first process stigmatizes demonstration participants and sharply separates them from the mainstream of Japanese public life, discouraging public attention to or participation in their causes. The second process divides protest movements internally, decreasing support for groups that operate at the prevailing limit of tolerated dissent, and gradually constricting the limit itself. Great variability in police-demonstrator interactions within demonstrations suggests the limitations of newspaper content analysis methods for such research. Patricia Steinhoff is Professor of Sociology at the University of Hawaii. A Japan specialist who studies Japanese radical left groups, she is the author or editor of twelve books, including three in Japanese, and eighty articles and book chapters. Recent publications include Doing fieldwork in Japan (University of Hawaii Press, 2003), which she co-edited with Theodore Bestor and Victoria Lyon Bestor, and “Kidnapped Japanese in North Korea: The New Left connection” Journal of Japanese Studies 30:1, Winter, 2004, pp. 123–142.     

从三跳比例浅析男子三级跳远技术训练趋势

采用文献资料、对比分析等方法,研究不同类型的中外男子三级跳远优秀运动员三跳比例对运动成绩的影响,结果显示:中国男子三级跳远运动员更适合向“平跳速度型”发展,理想的三跳比例为33.5%、30%、36.5%。提高助跑速度和跳跃速度,并使速度保持到第三步是训练的重点,应更加重视合理的三跳比例、上下摆动技术和平衡能力的训练,逐步探索“跑跳型”新技术。

本文围绕着中共与北方地区国民革命运动的关系,对北方地区国民革命运动、中共的地位与作用给予了系统评述。文章认为,中共北方地区党组织对北方地区国共统一战线的建立与发展、对北方地区国民革命运动的开辟与推广,以及北方地区国民革命运动对南方地区国民革命运动的促进和对北伐的支援上,均作出了重大贡献,应给予实事求是的评价和充分的肯定。
