Competency‐based Education: Evidence from Social Work Postgraduates from Five Universities in China

Social work education in China has undergone rapid development during last two decades. However, methods to define, measure, and evaluate social work students' competency remain largely unexplored. In this study, we evaluated competency in graduate social work students in China and examined factors that impacted competency, based on learning theory. Findings indicated that knowledge and skills learned in class, field placement, and social context all have effects on competency. How students think about individual development and the social work profession has the most significant effect. These findings carry implications for social work education in the Chinese context. The rapid development of social work education in China requires the effective measurement and evaluation of students' core competencies.     

Public relations master's education deliverables: How practitioners and educators view strategic practice curriculum

A national sample of practitioners (PRSA members) and academics provided their perceptions of what graduate students of public relations should study (N = 463). Despite expectations of difference between practitioners and educators, they agreed that a master's program graduate should have knowledge of business and understand how globalization shapes public relations. Still, a master's of public relations program graduate should also write well, speak well, and have had some “capstone” experience.     

An Evaluation of Physical Fitness Parameters for Graduate Students

Abstract

Although graduate physical therapy students are taught the principles of fitness for incorporation into their professional lives, they have difficulty finding the time to implement these principles during graduate school. The authors studied 3 successive classes of graduate physical therapy students at the beginning and ending of their respective programs. They found that the women's percentages of body fat were significantly greater over the period of the study. The men's lower extremity strength decreased at the slower speeds (60 degrees/second), and the women showed increased strength at the higher speeds (180 and 240 degrees/second, respectively). Male grip strength significantly increased over the period of the study. To decrease students' percentages of body fat and increase their strength, the authors asserted that physical therapy students should be allowed more time to participate in fitness activities during their graduate school years.

随着高等教育大众化时代的到来,我国教育事业高端的研究生教育质量越来越成为各方关注的焦点。专业学位研究生教育作为新兴事物,还存在与现行教育体制难以契合和培养模式双重缺失的问题。因此,建立体现区域特色的全日制农林类专业学位研究生培养模式可以为培养区域经济建设所需要的各类高层次复合型人才提供制度保障。     

高校毕业生就业迁移模式分析与研究

通过对福建省部分高校毕业生就业情况的分析,总结出聚焦、交流、失焦和离散四种就业迁移模式,研究表明：聚焦模式、离散模式是就业迁移过程中高概率的两种就业迁移模式,毕业生就业迁移受预期收益、邻里效应、就学地效应、避风港效应影响较大,政府加大在离散地区就业毕业生的诱致性利益力度及服务期满后的帮扶,高校开展因人而异的就业指导,将有助于实现人才流动的均衡性.

随着社会的进步,科学技术的快速发展,社会对于具备一技之长的专业化、应用型、高素质人才的需求越来越高.为了使研究生教育的发展适应社会的需求,及时合理的调整研究生培养目标,具有非常重要的意义.因此,为了更好地规范和完善我国的全日制专业学位研究生教育,必须认真思考专业学位研究生教育过程中存在的主要问题和原因.进一步明确专业学位研究生教育的办学目标,深化研究专业学位研究生教育的培养模式和管理体制,促进专业学位研究生教育又快又好地健康发展.     

Retrospective Reflections of a Whistleblower: Opinions on Misconduct Responses

Almost 10 years ago, when I was in my fourth year of graduate school, my fellow graduate students discovered that our thesis advisor had engaged in misconduct by falsifying and fabricating data in two grant applications. We informed the university and my advisor resigned. This event was a turning point in my life. Years later, I have gathered my thoughts and reflections on the experience. I believe we must first prevent what misconduct we can. But unfortunately some misconduct will still occur and in those circumstances we must respond to protect those affected by the misconduct and to progress beyond the event. In so doing, we get the most value out of scientific research.     

我国研究生培养机制改革存在的问题及对策思考

当前研究生教育发展现状亟待改进。通过对我国研究生培养机制改革的背景及主要内容的概述,分析研究生培养机制改革在实际操作中所面临的若干问题;并对比发达国家高校研究生培养的方式方法,借鉴和吸取成功经验,从对研究生的评价机制、淘汰机制等几方面对我国研究生培养提出相应的建议。     

研究生课程建设的思考与探索

通过对现行研究生课程教学中存在问题的分析,提出研究生课程建设的目标、实施过程及建设标准,并以华南理工大学的改革实践为例,总结了研究生课程建设的成果,指出了进一步改革的方向。
