Combining the greatest convex minorant approximation (Moriguti, S. (1953). A modification of Schwarz's inequality with applications to distributions. Ann. Math. Statist., 24, 107–113.) with the Hölder inequality, we establish sharp bounds on the expectations of the second record statistics from symmetric populations. We also determine the distributions for which the bounds are attained. The optimal bounds are numerically evaluated and compared with other classical rough ones.  相似文献

This article introduces a class of weighted multivariate t-distributions, which includes the multivariate generalized Student t and multivariate skew t as its special members. This class is defined as the marginal distribution of a doubly truncated multivariate generalized Student t-distribution and studied from several aspects such as weighting of probability density functions, inequality constrained multivariate Student t-distributions, scale mixtures of multivariate normal and probabilistic representations. The relationships among these aspects are given, and various properties of the class are also discussed. Necessary theories and two applications are provided.  相似文献

Suppose a subset of random size, which includes the best population corresponding to the largest (smallest) θ i , is selected using Gupta and Huang [On subset selection procedures for Poisson populations and some applications to the multinomial selection problems, in Applied Statistics, R.P. Gupta, ed., North-Holland, Amsterdam, 1975, pp. 97–109] and (Gupta et al. [On subset selection procedures for Poisson populations, Bull. Malaysian Math. Soc. 2 (1979), pp. 89–110]) selection rule. In this paper, the problem of estimating the average worth of the selected subset is considered under the squared error loss function. The natural estimator is shown to be biased and the UMVUE is obtained using Robbins [The UV method of estimation, in Statistical Decision Theory and Related Topics-IV, S.S. Gupta and J.O. Berger, eds., Springer, New York, vol. 1, 1988, pp. 265–270] UV method of estimation. The natural estimator is shown to be inadmissible, by constructing a class of dominating estimators. Using Monte Carlo simulations, the bias and risk of the natural, dominated and UMVU estimators are computed and compared.  相似文献

This article proposes bootstrap-based stochastic dominance tests for nonparametric conditional distributions and their moments. We exploit the fact that a conditional distribution dominates the other if and only if the difference between the marginal joint distributions is monotonic in the explanatory variable at each value of the dependent variable. The proposed test statistic compares restricted and unrestricted estimators of the difference between the joint distributions, and it can be implemented under minimal smoothness requirements on the underlying nonparametric curves and without resorting to smooth estimation. The finite sample properties of the proposed test are examined by means of a Monte Carlo study. We illustrate the test by studying the impact on postintervention earnings of the National Supported Work Demonstration, a randomized labor training program carried out in the 1970s.  相似文献

Dynamic treatment strategies are designed to change treatments over time in response to intermediate outcomes. They can be deployed for primary treatment as well as for the introduction of adjuvant treatment or other treatment‐enhancing interventions. When treatment interventions are delayed until needed, more cost‐efficient strategies will result. Sequential multiple assignment randomized (SMAR) trials allow for unbiased estimation of the marginal effects of different sequences of history‐dependent treatment decisions. Because a single SMAR trial enables evaluation of many different dynamic regimes at once, it is naturally thought to require larger sample sizes than the parallel randomized trial. In this paper, we compare power between SMAR trials studying a regime, where treatment boosting enters when triggered by an observed event, versus the parallel design, where a treatment boost is consistently prescribed over the entire study period. In some settings, we found that the dynamic design yields the more efficient trial for the detection of treatment activity. We develop one particular trial to compare a dynamic nursing intervention with telemonitoring for the enhancement of medication adherence in epilepsy patients. To this end, we derive from the SMAR trial data either an average of conditional treatment effects (‘conditional estimator’) or the population‐averaged (‘marginal’) estimator of the dynamic regimes. Analytical sample size calculations for the parallel design and the conditional estimator are compared with simulated results for the population‐averaged estimator. We conclude that in specific settings, well‐chosen SMAR designs may require fewer data for the development of more cost‐efficient treatment strategies than parallel designs. The joint asymptotic distribution of the upper and lower bounds for the Gini index derived by Gastwirth for grouped data are obtained. From them a conservative asymptotically distribution-free confidence interval for the population Gini index is presented. In this paper we consider a family of sampling designs for which increasing first‐order inclusion probabilities imply, in a specific sense, increasing conditional inclusion probabilities. It is proved that the complementary Midzuno, the conditional Poisson, and the Sampford designs belong to this family. It is shown that designs of the family are more efficient than a comparable with‐replacement design. Furthermore, the efficiency gain is explicitly given for these designs.  相似文献

We present sharp bounds for expectations of generalized order statistics with random indices. The bounds are expressed in terms of logarithmic moments E X a (log max {1, X}) b of the underlying observation X. They are attainable and provide characterizations of some non trivial distributions.
