The Therapeutic Misconception: A Threat to Valid Parental Consent for Pediatric Neuroimaging Research

Neuroimaging research has brought major advances to child health and well-being. However, because of the vulnerabilities associated with neurological and developmental conditions, the parental need for hope, and the expectation of parents that new medical advances can benefit their child, pediatric neuroimaging research presents significant challenges to the general problem of consent in the context of research involving children. A particular challenge in this domain is created by the presence of therapeutic misconception on the part of parents and other key research stakeholders. This article reviews the concept of therapeutic misconception and its role in pediatric neuroimaging research. It argues that this misconception can compromise consent given by parents for the involvement of their children in research as healthy controls or as persons with neurological and developmental conditions. The article further contends that therapeutic misconception can undermine the research ethics review process for proposed and ongoing neuroimaging studies. Against this backdrop, the article concludes with recommendations for mitigating the effects of therapeutic misconception in pediatric neuroimaging research.     

The end of the world as we know it: Popular music's cultural mobility

Abstract

Popular music has moved to the centre of economic life, suggesting a shift in the political economy of advanced societies. The transition has been marked by a concomitant shift in the centrality of popular music in social life, assisted by new technologies. More importantly, the changes have been brought about by the reorganization of record company ownership and activity since the 1980s. This paper suggests that cultural studies could apply aspects of the research and analysis methods developed in institutional economics, to a study of the relationship between cultural and economic formations. Institutional economics, especially as proposed by Thorstein Veblen, provides a pragmatic critique for cultural industries in an era of globalization and rising corporate power. In this paper I have used institutional economics to illustrate how the shift in the organization of popular music has taken place within the corporate economy. The use of popular music as a feature of the corporate economy has involved the expansion of all forms of entertainment into the information economy. This convergence of activities and interests located in and around popular music is described by the term ‘cultural mobility’.     

中国相声的艺术本体新辨

相声是中国喜剧的典型代表,一直被定位在“语言的艺术”,事实上它不单纯是一种语言艺术,其艺术本体介乎表演艺术和叙事艺术之间：是听觉艺术,也是视觉艺术;其戏剧情境极具开放性,表演元素兼容并服务于叙述元素;它包含了叙述体和戏剧体并存的两种结构;相声演员将叙述者和角色集于一身。总之,相声成为兼容了戏剧体和叙述体成为典型的兼体艺术——“叙述体戏剧”。     

当代中国农村合作医疗制度起源探论

合作医疗是我国农村广泛实行的一项医疗制度,自20世纪二三十年代产生,历经变革,至今仍在沿用.关于它的起源,多数学者认为是源自陕甘宁边区的医药卫生合作社,也有学者提出是形成于民国时期的农村卫生实验区.然而考察民国时期卫生实验区的发展以及国外的研究成果,可知合作医疗在中国的发展实际上有着更为复杂的背景.中国卫生医疗制度近代以来基本上是受到西方国家的影响,合作医疗制度也不例外,其中受东欧国家农村合作医疗制度的影响较大,同时其话语建构也蕴含了社会及文化的变迁.     

生产性服务企业的制度创新研究——基于单案例的嵌入式分析

基于生产性服务业兴起的背景,对服务供应链管理概念的四种认识进行了综述,并从服务供应链管理角度对生产性服务企业的研究进行了综述。选取ZG集团作为企业制度创新单案例研究的对象,从服务供应链管理网络结构、业务流程和管理成分三个构成方面,深入剖析了ZG集团的制度创新。发现ZG集团通过服务供应链管理的制度创新,实现了由传统商贸型企业向现代生产性服务企业的转型,成功成为一体化的企业集团。     

农户需求视角下林农合作经营权制度安排研究——以415户调研数据为例

集体林权制度改革在赋予农户产权主体地位的同时,也引发了林地细碎化所带来的生产成本上升、经营效率低下等问题,需要构建满足农户合作需求的制度安排以有效激励农户合作,实现林地规模经营。笔者首先分析了现行合作经营方面的制度安排所赋予农户的权利内容,其次通过对415户林农在合作行为与意愿方面的选择信息分析了农户对合作经营的权利需求。通过对二者的比较研究,分析合作经营制度供给和农户需求是否存在差异以及存在差异的原因,并根据农户需求的内容提出合作经营方面的政策建议。     

关于原创红色歌曲融人江西社区文化建设的思考

社区文化是文化事业的基础,社区文化建设是中国先进文化建设的重要组成部分,社区文化建设水平的高低是衡量文化教育素质高低的重要标志。江西有着丰富的红色文化资源,原创红色歌曲融入江西社区文化建设,是对江西红色文化的传承,是对江西特色文化的发展和创新。从江西社区文化建设着眼,撷取原创红色歌曲这一特色文化要素,从制度化支持、基础条件和动力机制3个方面阐述了将原创红色歌曲融入江西社区文化建设的思路,以期能为江西社区特色文化建设提供参考。     

社会管理创新的政策演进与学理支撑

社会管理创新的表述经历了从"社会管理体制创新"到"完善社会管理"再到"加强和创新社会管理"与"提高社会管理科学化水平"的转变。在文字表述变化的背后,蕴含着社会管理创新政策内涵和具体内容的转变。随着加强和创新社会管理作为重大战略性任务继续推进,社会学、政治学、法学等各学科均展开了对社会管理创新的研究,涉及社会管理创新的概念、内涵、路径、策略等方面。     

A Regression Analysis of Motivations for Saudi University Male Student Volunteers

Abstract

As a major national asset for promoting social development, volunteer groups have grown rapidly worldwide and have brought significant benefits to individuals, communities, and society in general. Volunteering is encouraged and common among Muslims in the Middle East, but there is rare study on why they volunteer. This study used multiple regression to explore what motivates Saudi male university students to volunteer with a sample of 223 subjects. The results show that all predictor variables such as pro-social personality, values function, career function, social function, enhancement function, protective function, and learning function of volunteering, community identity, institutional facilitation, and Islamic cultural motivation, are statistically significantly correlated to students’ volunteering intentions, but these factors contribute to the ordinary least square regression model at different levels. Only career (B?=?0.217), social (B?=?0.212), learning (B?=?0.280), and enhancement functions (B?=?0.230) of volunteering have statistically significant influence on Saudi university male students’ volunteering intention. Findings highlight a need for a focus on instrumental needs of volunteers by government and NGOs. In regards to future research, gender and educational impacts on volunteers’ motive should be explored.     

基于制度逻辑视角的中国工会改革路径分析研究

立足中国工会改革实践,通过采集1949~2020年间《人民日报》的工会新闻报道和相关期刊文献,采用扎根理论方法提炼出中国工会的制度逻辑构成,并从制度逻辑的互动和演化来剖析中国工会改革过程中的本土特征和内在运行规律。研究结果发现:中国工会具有社会治理逻辑、员工服务逻辑和企业管理逻辑三重逻辑,且其在目标导向、行动基础、合法性和人性假设上存在差异;社会治理逻辑、员工服务逻辑和企业管理逻辑贯穿中国工会改革的全过程,共同推动工会改革历经社会治理逻辑的主导→社会治理逻辑与员工服务逻辑的竞争→三重制度逻辑的平衡融合3个阶段,且呈现出复杂性、动态性的演化特征;中国工会的组织结构和管理体系存在制度惯性的约束,导致其内部逻辑的演变始终滞后于外部制度环境变化。
