Generalizability of Gottman and Colleagues' Affective Process Models of Couples' Relationship Outcomes

The generalizability of Gottman et al's. (1998) affective process models was examined using a community-based sample of 85 married or cohabiting couples with at-risk backgrounds. Predictive associations between affective processes assessed at about age 21 years and relationship status and satisfaction approximately 2.5 years later were examined. The major findings of Gottman et al. failed to replicate. In particular, men's rejection of their partners' influence, the lack of men's deescalation of partners' negative affect, and women's negative start up were not predictive of relationship status. Further, differences in affective processes were found when comparing discussion sessions of the men's versus the women's chosen topics. The findings suggested that the validity and utility of the affective process models need further investigation.     

Is subsidiarity a conditio sine qua non for sustainability?

This paper argues that subsidiarity is a condicio sine qua non for sustainability. Through the complexity paradigm, the paper provides a historical reconstruction of both concepts to the end of elucidating their interdependence. The main thesis is that subsidiarity to sustainability is what self-organisation is to emergence. The paper ends with a sketch of future global governance structures based on a subsidiarity where cities take the lead on sustainability.     

Intergenerational Exchanges of Middle‐Aged Adults With Their Parents and Parents‐In‐Law in Korea

The authors investigated patterns of support exchanges between Korean adult children and their parents and parents‐in‐law, gender differences in these patterns, and implications of children's marital quality for exchange patterns. Data were from a nationally representative sample of married adults (N = 920, age 30–59 years) with at least 1 living parent and 1 living parent‐in‐law. Latent class analysis was applied to 12 indicators of exchanges (financial, instrumental, emotional support given to and received from parents and parents‐in‐law). Five classes of exchanges were identified, 3 showing balanced patterns of exchanges with parents and parents‐in‐law across three types of support and 2 classes with unbalanced patterns (e.g., giving instrumental and financial but not emotional support). The findings revealed variability in intergenerational exchange patterns, with a mix of patrilineal traditional and balanced patterns. Significant associations of exchange patterns with adult children's marital quality suggest the importance of balanced exchanges with parents for marriage.

论婚内侵权民事责任制度的构建

我国现行《婚姻法》在追究婚内侵权行为民事责任上存在严重的缺陷,不能对受害人进行有效的司法救济。基于"人格独立"、"男女平等"以及婚姻秩序的要求,在民法这一私法范畴内,构建婚内侵权民事救济机制,确定不同的侵权救济方式,以及建立夫妻一方在婚姻关系存续期间由于另一方的侵权而寻求法律保护的司法救济制度,不仅有利于遏止夫妻间的侵权行为,维护受害者的基本权利,以及婚姻家庭的稳定乃至于社会的稳定,也是我国社会发展和完善民事立法的进一步要求。     

晚清以来中国社会的阶层分化、合化及其社会后果

晚清中国社会经历了一个阶层不分化、分化、合化、分化的交替进程,影响阶层分化、合化的三个自变量分别是资源特性、组织权力与公共权力。资源特性、组织权力在自发运作的市场中导致阶层分化的马太效应具有必然性,公共权力则具有选择性。当公共权力阶层与强力资源拥有阶层兼组织权力阶层结盟时,阶层分化加剧,社会有发展但是不稳定;当公共权力阶层与弱力资源拥有阶层结盟时,阶层合化出现,社会稳定但是不发展。要使社会既稳定又发展,阶层之间应该既分化又公正,公共权力阶层应该是不自由的,受制约于各个阶层并代表各个阶层。
