KNOWING TOO MUCH ABOUT OTHERS: MODERATORS OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EAVESDROPPING AND RAPPORT IN SOCIAL INTERACTION

This study examined the association between a partners ability to eavesdrop on nonverbal cues and an actors feelings of rapport during interaction, as well as neuroticism and self-monitoring as moderators of this effect. Eavesdropping ability was defined as lower sensitivity to cues of the face, a source of overtly displayed emotions, relative to sensitivity to cues of the body, a source of leakage of covert or hidden emotions. Results showed that actors felt less rapport the higher their partners eavesdropping. High neuroticism actors were especially likely to feel worse about their interaction and themselves when their partners were good at eavesdropping. In both instances, the eavesdroppers nonverbal behavior seems to have mediated the associations to a small degree.Both authors contributed equally to this paper. Do Actions Speak Louder Than Words? Preschool Children's Use of the Verbal-Nonverbal Consistency Principle During Inconsistent Communications

The present study investigated whether preschool children could use the conventional actions speak louder than words principle (or the verbal-nonverbal consistency principle) to process information in situations where verbal cues contradict nonverbal cues. Three-, 4-, and 5-year-olds were shown a video in which an actor drank a beverage and made a verbal statement (e.g., I like it) that was inconsistent with her emotional expression (e.g., frowning), and were asked whether the actor liked or disliked the beverage. If children used the verbal-nonverbal consistency principle, they should respond according to the information conveyed by the actor's emotional expression. Results showed that when the message was more naturalistic, the majority of children tended to respond based on the actor's verbal message. However, when the inconsistency between the verbal and nonverbal messages was made salient, more children appeared to rely on the nonverbal cue. Younger children's reliance on verbal cues reported in previous research may be partly explained by the salience of the verbal message.

4—6岁幼儿同伴交往能力量表的编制

本研究在综合国内外有关幼儿同伴交往研究的基础上 ,结合教师对幼儿交往行为描述的开放式问卷 ,编制了适合我国幼儿特点的《4— 6岁幼儿同伴交往能力量表》。经过预测后修订组成正式量表 ,共计 2 4个项目 ,施测于南京市 11所幼儿园的 4— 6岁 5 43名幼儿。因素分析结果验证了本量表 4个因素的存在 ,即 :社交主动性、语言和非语言交往能力、社交障碍、亲社会行为 ,从而验证了最初的结构预想。本研究着重考察了该量表的信度和效度 ,其中总量表与各分量表的同质性信度在 0 .80 31— 0 .92 85之间。对量表内容效度和结构效度检验也取得令人满意的结果。     

针对IPv4协议的容错解码算法研究

在易错网络中传输IP(因特网协议)数据包时,除了网络拥塞之外,信道误码也容易导致数据包丢失。丢包对信源恢复会造成较大影响。为了降低误码导致的丢包率,该文研究了IPv4协议解码的可靠性问题,分析了IPv4(因特网协议版本4)协议各字段之间的相关性,建立了IPv4协议容错解码的理论模型,利用最大后验概率推导出容错解码的准则。在该基础上提出一种以分段方式估计协议字段的算法,实验结果表明该算法大大增强了IPv4协议解码的纠错能力。     

严译误读“艺术”的解构主义诠释

翻译需要应对的不仅是语言的差异,更是文化的差异,加之译者的主体性意识等因素,造成了翻译中误读和误译的必然性。以严复的误读为例,借用解构主义翻译理论,诠释严译中误读的必然性及其合理性,同时解释严译创造性误读的正面积极意义——原作意义的实现与丰富、译者与读者主体价值的体现与制约。     

FROM TEXT TO GESTURE ONLINE: A microethnographic analysis of nonverbal communication in the Second Life virtual environment

A transition from text-based computer-mediated communication (CMC) to online interaction that includes both textual and nonverbal discourse represents a new development in online communication and a significant challenge to prevailing models for the analysis of CMC. This paper presents results of a six-month-long ethnographic research of nonverbal communication (NVC) in the Second Life (SL) virtual environment. A set of 108 SL locations selected in a non-structured manner provided a wide range of communicative contexts for the analysis of naturally occurring user interaction. The study was focused on the analysis of proxemic and kinesic cues. The results have pointed to a significant difference between user-defined and predefined nonverbal cues, indicating that user-defined NVC has stronger potential to enhance online interaction.
