With the silence of a thousand cries: extremes of autistic advocacy

In the past year, I have observed a growing trend toward extremes of autistic civil rights advocacy, at least partially characterized by disdain for scientific research and knowledge alongside a preference for lived experiences. This concerns me, an individual on the autism spectrum and someone who desires to help autistic individuals through the psychological study of autism. Hence my intent here: to discuss and bring attention to this situation. In so doing, I hope to create civil and respectful dialogue on the subject. I will conclude by discussing implications and potential actions which might bring about positive outcomes.     

The mediated politics of place and people: picturing the ‘contested place-making’ of Irish Travellers at Dale Farm

This article discusses meanings of people–place relationships, relating to ethnicity–class–gender intersections. The case examined concerns the ‘contested place-making’ of Irish Travellers at Dale Farm (UK), where the Travellers were eventually evicted from a place they owned. The material consists mainly of online slideshows in the Guardian. Visuals and place share the role of concretizing news, situating them and underlining their truth claims. Hence, news visuals are well suited for discussions of relationships between places and peoples. The study comprises theories of media, place and identity, relating to mobility, minorities and globalization. Methodologically, compositional analysis, discourse-theoretical method and an intersectional approach are combined. The place conflict is rarely understood in terms of justice. Instead, ethnicity–class–gender intersections appear as significant in the imagery, countering certain old stereotypes, but also connecting to discourses of ‘threatening minorities’, and ‘bad mobility’. Manifested through excessive imagery of barricades/fences/walls/gates, ‘identity management’ meets ‘place management’, detaching some identities from some places. The Travellers thus appear as anomalies, separated from others. This is partly connected to the slideshow format, where linguistic elaboration on motifs is very limited, partly to the selection of certain themes and motifs in the slideshows, and partly to the societal politics surrounding the issue.     

Media framing of trolling and online abuse: silencing strategies,symbolic violence,and victim blaming

This article draws on British newspaper reports in order to demonstrate that trolling, and the media’s subsequent framing of trolling, involves “silencing strategies.” It is important to examine how trolling is discussed within the media to understand how it might frame public opinion, debate, and action, and implicitly victim blame. The article presents findings on the forms of (online) abuse and behaviours related to trolling in media reports, including rape threats, death threats, and body shaming. It also explores the media portrayal of victims of trolling, and the advice given concerning how to respond to trolls. To comply with the message to women, which is propagated in media and popular discourses: “do not feed the troll” means that “symbolic violence” is exercised with the complicity of the victim(s) of trolling, which has broader implications.     

基于双边努力因素的网购供应链协调研究

本文考虑了由单个网络零售商和单个第三方物流企业（TPL）构成的二级网购供应链,在产品价格、双方努力水平同时影响市场需求的情况下,研究了基于双边努力因素的网购供应链协调问题。通过对网购供应链集中决策和分散决策下双方的最优解对比发现,两部定价契约不能实现网购供应链协调,提出采用双边努力成本共担契约对网购供应链进行协调,并与分散决策下网络零售商单边承担TPL努力成本进行对比,研究结果表明：努力成本分担系数的不同对双方的努力水平有显著影响,且双边努力成本共担契约不仅能实现双方努力水平的协调以及增加了产品的市场需求量,而且实现了网购供应链系统收益的帕累托改进。最后,通过算例验证了双边努力成本共担契约的有效性,并对相关参数的灵敏度进行了分析。     

Fair and easy: the effect of perceived fairness,effort expectancy and user experience on online slot machine gambling intention

The growth of online gambling necessitates that both marketers and regulators have a better understanding of the gambling intention of players. Perceived fairness of customers towards operators has often been raised as a concern in the industry, but it has received limited attention in research on gambling intention. Theories that seek to explain purchase intention are considered and a model is proposed that investigates the role and impact that perceived fairness and system effort expectancy have on online gambling intention together with the moderating influence of user experience. Data from 255 online gambling customers are gathered and analysed using Hayes PROCESS analyses. Results indicate that perceived fairness impacts gambling intention directly, and indirectly strengthening the effect of effort expectancy on gambling intention. However, user experience weakens both these impacts. The research provides support for the inclusion of perceived fairness in theories that consider drivers of online gambling intention. In addition, the important role that perceived fairness plays offers support for gambling regulators who in recent years have sought to promote a fairer and more transparent deal to players. Firms in the online gambling industry can also look positively at activities enhancing fairness as its promotion can also enhance their performance.     

非法持有宣扬恐怖主义网络物品的司法认定

非法持有宣扬恐怖主义物品罪中的宣扬是指以非否定的评价对恐怖主义内容予以不合理的展示,只有当涉及恐怖主义的内容通常会对阅读者产生刑法所禁止的负面影响,才属于宣扬恐怖主义物品。宣扬恐怖主义物品包含传统物品与网络物品两种形式,在定量模式的运用上,应当秉持传统物品与网络物品危害性区分的原则。对于网络物品,存在着因软件原因而使软件用户被动获取的可能,当软件用户被动获取的系完全独立的网络物品时,则负有删除所获取网络物品的义务,不履行删除义务的属于持有。基于正当目的而持有宣扬恐怖主义物品的行为不具有刑事违法性,不应认定为犯罪。行为人非法持有后又实施宣扬行为的,如持有行为与宣扬行为所指向的物品具有同一性,宜以包括一罪处断。     

人的全面发展理论视角下大学生网购行为的引导

近期,笔者对广东十五所高校的两千名学生进行了一次关于网购行为状况的调查,调查结果显示,网络购物给大学生的全面发展带来了机遇,同时也使大学生的全面发展面临着挑战。基于马克思主义关于人的全面发展理论为视角,坚持从政府、学校、社会、个人四个维度对大学生的网购行为进行引导,促进大学生的全面发展,是高校思想政治教育义不容辞的课题。     

Disability activisms: social model stalwarts and biological citizens

The Disabled People’s Movement (DPM) in the UK rejects the view that disability is an illness. For the DPM it is the social processes of discrimination and oppression that create the material circumstances out of which solidarity and politicisation arise. The DPM has also been shy about impairment, arguing that it is generally irrelevant to the issue of disability and that a clear distinction between impairment and disability is necessary if disability is to be understood as a basis for identity politics. The biological citizens that support embodied health movements use impairment, genetic status, biomedical diagnosis and classification as calling cards that signal their claims to identity. Whilst the DPM has challenged medical hegemony and scientific ideas, many ‘biosocial’ groups embrace the specialised medical and scientific knowledge associated with their ‘condition’, particularly where it might be used to enhance their claims to citizenship. This paper argues that disability activism in the UK is bifurcating. It addresses the difference in perspective and action between the ‘social model stalwarts’ of the DPM and biological citizens that organise politically around particular diagnostic labels.
