An Investigation of Parameter Recovery in MCMC Estimation for the Additive IRT Model

The article aims at evaluating the parameter recovery for the multidimensional additive IRT model (Sheng, 2005 Sheng , Y. ( 2005 ). By estimating the model parameters via Gibbs sampler, a simulation study is conducted under different testing conditions, e.g., dimensionality, test and subtest lengths, correlation matrices, and different values of discrimination parameters. The results show that, especially when the test length is short and the abilities are highly correlated, the accuracy of the parameter estimates is reduced and more iterations are required to convergence. An application in educational testing is also described to show the effectiveness of the model in use.     

Manufacturing network configuration in supply chains with product recovery

Efficient implementation of product recovery requires appropriate network structures. In this paper, we study the network design problem of a firm that manufactures new products and remanufactures returned products in its facilities. We examine the capacity decisions and expected performance of two alternative manufacturing network configurations when demand and return flows are both uncertain.

修正后的《刑事诉讼法》针对犯罪嫌疑人、被告人逃匿、死亡的案件,增设了不定罪而没收犯罪所得的特别程序,以此来落实有关国际条约规定的义务,加大反腐反恐的力度。不定罪没收程序的设计,主要源于《联合国反腐败公约》关于资产追回的规定。认真分析《联合国反腐败公约》的条款并借鉴他国立法实践,有利于不定罪没收程序的实践运行。

国民经济恢复时期基层的乡级财政还不是一级完备的财政。各地乡级财政存在不少问题：收支不平衡、行政事业经费开支比例过大、任意摊派,从而影响了乡级政权工作的开展。其中的经验教训对目前的乡村政权建设以及财政体制改革仍有一定的启示。     

信用风险中回收率分布的双Beta模型

本文研究了随机回收率的分布,建立了回收率的双Beta分布密度模型,它具有双峰分布的特点,这与Moody公司的最新研究相吻合,弥补了现有回收率分布模型均为单峰的不足。利用基于数论网格的序贯优化算法对所建模型的参数做出了估计,借助于核密度估计的工具,进行了实证分析,结果表明双Beta模型的拟合误差很小,远小于Beta模型的误差,它是表示回收率理想的模型。最后给出了抽取双Beta分布随机数的方法。

通过分析word文件的格式,使用UltraEdit工具,实现了从破损word文件的二进制流中提取该文件碎片的文本信息。     

A Disillusioned College Professor

In this article, the author discusses the double-bind situation of being an educator in a college setting, but reluctant to disclose that which could enlighten her social work students the most—at 14 years old she experienced a complete psychotic break (catatonic-type), but completely recovered within a few months and largely without medication. Here the author acknowledges the shameful nature of contemporary controversial issues in mental health some 37 years after her own experience and includes an excerpt from “An Absence of Concern,” a work in progress, to illustrate the dynamic inner processes that remain intact during a break, but largely denied by an ignorant society.     

Radical Social Work in These Contemporary Times

This article explores the educational journey of one man from leaving school in the mid-1970s, at the age of 14, through a period of chaotic drug use, and on to developing his career helping other chaotic drug users back into a “normal” life. Although focused on someone with drug dependency as part of his history, the article exposes issues that potentially underlie the experiences of many learners within working-class communities. In particular, it examines the role of formal and informal education, considers education's ability to liberate or domesticate (Freire, 1972), and examines approaches to learning that support recovery and transformation.

A Single-Case Study of Resiliency After Extreme Incest in an Old Order Amish Family

This exploratory research brief presents a single case study of the resiliency of “Mary B.” She grew up in an Old Order Amish family where isolation, secrecy, and patriarchy masked repeated sexual assaults by her older brothers that began at age 7. By the age of 20, Mary alleged she had been raped on more than 200 separate occasions by members of her Amish family. After years of pleading with her mother and church officials to intervene, she sought therapy outside the Amish community. This led to three of her brothers being incarcerated. Her family disowned her and she was banned from the Amish community, leaving with an 8th grade education and little more than the clothes she was wearing. In less than 2 years, Mary had moved to a new town, completed her GED, obtained a car and driving license, maintained a small home, and worked as a certified nursing assistant. She consented to tape recorded interviews and completed several quantitative diagnostic measures. Scores on the diagnostic measures placed her within the normal range on self-esteem, competency, depression, stress, social support, and life skills. Analysis of interviews revealed Mary rebounded from her past by reframing her experiences. Themes identified within the interviews supported 6 of the 7 types of resiliencies (insight, independence, initiative, relationships, humor, and morality) outlined in the therapeutic Challenge Model.
