Mathematician's call for interdisciplinary research effort

The article addresses the necessity of increasing the role of mathematics in the psychological intervention in problem gambling, including cognitive therapies. It also calls for interdisciplinary research with the direct contribution of mathematics. The current contributions and limitations of the role of mathematics are analysed with an eye toward the professional profiles of the researchers. An enhanced collaboration between these two disciplines is suggested and predicted.     

Distinctive alcohol cultural practices amongst Niuean men living in Auckland,New Zealand

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to describe some of the distinctive cultural practices evident in Niuean men's drinking behaviours. The paper is also intended to illustrate that alcohol is an integral aspect of the Niuean culture and part of the system of cultural exchange. Alcohol has become an integral component of Niuean cultural rituals to the extent that celebrations and festivals are thought to be incomplete if alcohol is not present. Alcohol is used as a tool for expressing cultural values such as fakaalofa (gifting), generosity, respect, status and host obligations. Finally, alcohol is used as a symbol of ‘being Niuean’ and being a ‘real’ Niuean man. This paper will describe how practices specific to Niuean men such as drinking the ‘Niuean way’ and kalaga are symbols that help to reinforce men's cultural identity, enhancing their feeling of communal identity. It is important to emphasize that it is difficult to divorce the ‘cultural’ components of Niuean men's drinking styles from their drinking and behaviour more generally. Culture shapes people's values and behaviours. Although this paper points to some of the specific and distinctively ‘cultural’ aspects of Niuean drinking, we must recognize that all of the participants’ drinking behaviours and attitudes are likely to have been shaped by their cultural and social context. Furthermore, this paper provides only a brief snapshot of how culture and alcohol are intertwined for Niuean men. Educational programmes and host responsibility guidelines need to be culturally appropriate to suit the needs of the Niuean community. Further work is needed to elucidate this complex topic.     

Women's Responsibilities,Freedoms, and Pleasures

In the building of the Swedish welfare state, men and women have been seen as equal in their roles as parents, breadwinners, and citizens. This conception is not confirmed by the images produced by advertising. The article presents an analysis of alcohol-related advertisements published in Swedish women's magazines from the 1960s to the 2000s. The advertisements are approached as representations of gendered performances in which gender is made visible “here and now” by placing women in particular subject positions that are related to private or public spheres and associated with specific kinds of gender norms reflecting women's shifting responsibilities, freedoms, and pleasures. The article asks what kind of drinking-related subject positions have been portrayed as desirable in women's magazine advertisements over the past few decades and how those positions have changed as we move closer to the present day. The analysis reveals both continuity and variability in alcohol-related subject positions in Swedish women's magazine advertisements. It shows how women's responsibilities, freedoms, and pleasures have expanded from the traditional domain of the private sphere to multiple new areas as Sweden has developed from a modern welfare state to a late-modern competition state. However, this does not mean that the traditional gender norms have disintegrated and been replaced by equal gender norms. Rather, it seems that traditional gender norms continue to be reproduced in alcohol-related advertising.     

Playing,Sitting Out,and Observing the Game: An Investigation of Faculty Members’ Perspectives on Political Behavior in Ethical Decision Making

Ethical dilemmas are inherently ambiguous, complex, and ill-defined. Additionally, these dilemmas involve multiple stakeholders. These characteristics may induce political behavior as a resolution tactic. Thus, the goal of the present effort was to investigate perspectives on politics among researchers in an ethical decision-making context. A qualitative analysis of interviews with university faculty members revealed that faculty members’ perspectives on political behavior in an ethical decision-making context fall into a number of categories, including positive, negative, and realistic views of political activity. The implications of these varying perspectives on ethical decision making are discussed.     

Infusing Research Integrity Principles and Practices into a Regional Master's Degree–Intensive University: A Case Study

The need for institutions of higher education to advance research and scholarly integrity across graduate degree programs involves a strong commitment from each institution to develop a comprehensive approach for promoting responsible conduct of research (RCR). In response to this need, one master's-intensive regional university implemented a three-tier model project (focusing, developing, and evaluating/sustaining) for infusing research integrity principles and practices while promoting RCR. Components of the model and implementation strategies are presented as a case study analysis. Implications of the model for promoting the RCR are projected relative to graduate programs focused on applied research.

现行法律对于行政决策责任的规定最大缺陷在于没有准确界定行政决策失误之机关集体责任和区分机关集体责任与领导个人责任,从而导致在＂集体决策＂名义下无法真正追究行政决策失误的责任或是导致对公共利益的损害。以现行法律规定的不足为立论基础,论证了构建行政决策失误的机关集体责任的必要性、认定标准及主体的确定等基本问题,寻找集体决策责任主体,从而真正实现行政决策责任,推动我国正在进行的责任政府建设。

技术与社会的发展使技术伦理评价日益受到重视。技术伦理评价的原则旨在为人们达成一致的伦理评价找到结合点。本文分别从技术与人、自然和社会三个层面提出和阐述了现代技术伦理评价的三个原则,即技术人道主义原则、技术生态主义原则和责任原则。

文章立足于《企业内部控制应用指引第4号—社会责任》,阐释关于企业社会责任涵义,从嵌入性立场重新审视企业社会责任,剖析了企业社会责任成本的构成,并就如何加强企业社会责任成本研究提出了应考虑企业社会责任成本对企业财务决策的影响,合理计量企业社会责任成本,加强监管,规范社会责任成本信息披露等观点。     

论责任政府建设中的政府问责制建设

论文为了能够有效地运行政府问责制,通过对目前我国政府问责制中存在的异体问责发展缓慢、问责对象模糊和问责范围过窄、问责程序的缺陷以及相关法律制度不健全方面的分析,提出了健全政府问责制要强化异体问责、明确问责对象、拓宽问责范围、规范问责程序和强化政府责任立法等措施.     

共饮人的酒后驾车劝阻责任

共同饮酒人的酒后驾车劝阻责任应在共同侵权的框架下解决。但共同过错并不是这种共同侵权行为的构成要件,这并没有贬降过错本身在共同侵权行为中的作用,并扩张侵权行为的适用范围。建议在民法典侵权责任一编单独规定,与司机共饮者对司机负有相应的驾车劝阻责任。是否尽到该义务,实行加害人举证责任倒置。
